Agree with this list. I'm a SE, and I spent a couple years out of college first with an inspection firm, then a contractor, and it was an invaluable experience that made me a far better designer. I also use the same calculator as you. I picked it up when I took my PE, and fell in love with it. I ditched that TI-89 I lugged around all through college and never once looked back. If that calculator can't do it, then just jump in Excel (underrated!).
Issue with online skills is that mostly 90% of the informations are poorly correlated together. For now class learning still the best to me

Your points about small firms resonated with me. I worked mostly for small firms, except for a 3 year stint with a huge firm of which I hated every minute. The understanding at a small firm is that you will do everything from take out the garbage to design the Sears Tower! Lots of truth to that.

Budget estimate I would say it's the one that requires the least amount of time going to sites.

Same concept as asking what software to learn. Any book works as long as you understand how to use it and understand what it's telling you.

yes is possible if the bar is weldable because some bars are not.

For architecture- people need to stop saying architect dream is engineer nightmares because y'all have to know that new midsized to large airports will have nursing room was passing new laws in 2018 . Freestanding full 24/7 emergency department is becoming common in my area without using main hospitals. Does your area have that, too? Does you know some hospitals start plan make emergency department for elderly people? Autism friendly places become common in public spaces, schools/clinics and home, too. Someone who started studying about Deafspaces for deaf/hard of hearing/hearing aid community. Chris Downey is architect who lost sight later in his life. Now, he is becoming consultant for blind community in architecture. Also, we had the blueprint for blind and visually impaired community. In China, architect have to know what the traditional chinese architecture in their communities. Health and wellness in building becomes common around worldwide. Healthy buildings is next generation of green building.

Architecture is not overated. right out of school you have internship (axp) so hence doing some basic tasks to better understand buildability, bid ability, code etc. but it depends on the firm you work at. You may be entrusted with schematic design sooner. To say overatted is too simplified, Architecture is more than just making beautiful renderings and designs. Its also the space planning and coordination of all the engineers and other consultants. Ie the design team leader
Good points, in AEC most students see the end product and final design, but not all the other work, codes, and coordination with other disciplines to get a design constructed.
so how does it work, why do we need architects? like why can't civil engineer do excatly the same thing as architec at the end of the day their knowledge is much more technical so kinda therefore they have more knowledge, can civil engineer just do architect's work? I am not working in the construction industry I am in IT and I don't want to sound ignorant just trying to understand. How is it that architect is civil engineer boss while he can do less? It is just my understanding and I am looking for clarification thanks
@@jakubkruczek2772 Thats a good question. and the answer is it depends on the type of project. Infrastructure projects (highways, bridges etc. are more likely if not always led by civil engineers in the design sense). Building design is led by Architects. The Architect is trained on the technical aspects of how to bring a building together but also the social, cultural, emotional, design, code and regulations of buildings. So I'm working on an airport and the Architecture team (maybe 20+) people lead the design. They design how the buildings will be used, make sure that all the functions of the building are taken care of, The Architects also lead the team by meeting with the owners regularly. The Engineers are consultants on this project. We have Structural Engineers, who work on the buildings structure (think steel and foundations ) Civil engineers who work on the site around the building (think roads parking, drainage, utilities). Electrical Engineers who work on the buildings electrical systems, Mechanical engineers who work on the building Heating,Ventilation AC, and plumbing. Interior Designers, Signage consultants...Aircraft consultants...the list goes on. The point is buildings are made by a team of people. Architects are qualified to lead the team and the other members (including members on the architects team and engineers team) implement the design. So Architects have to know enough about each engineering discipline to coordinate them. Kind of like a conductor of an Orchestra, who also plays the violin and wrote the music too. Like I said this is for buildings. From what I know about structural engineers they are not trained in aesthetics, or the history / psychology of design, or building technical detailing aside from the detailing required for structural / foundations.
