This is one of my favorite episodes. No doubt this will help countless people who are struggling. The fact Landon was willing to take the steps to connect his daughter with the Bishop demonstrated faith and humility. I believe that demonstration of humility and faith allowed the Spirit to penetrate his heart and led him to spontaneously make arrangements to speak with the Bishop after his daughter’s interview. I know there’s so much more to this story, these are just my humble observations of some things. God IS Good All the time!! On a side note, his new peace of mind regarding previously troubling topics/history issues is such a beautiful demonstration of how some things are truly only understood by the Spirit. The understanding given isn’t always factual, sometimes the understanding God gives us is peace. “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” -1 Corinthians 2:14

Just a comment on church history is, everyone that joined the church came from different backgrounds. Everyone was learning a new way of life. No one was perfect. People then lived a different way than we do now. I tell others that as soon as you are perfect then you can judge those from the past and even people now. “Ye without sin cast the first stone.” I absolutely love your testimony. I had a time in my life when I walked away from the church. The testimony I gained by becoming active again is something I’ll treasure forever.
The part of church history that shakes people is not the history itself. It’s the fact that many historical events (like Joseph using a rock in a hat and his treasure seeking) were pounded into our heads as Anti-Mormon lies, only for the church to admit it later. If the church would have been honest from the very beginning we would all be much better off.
I’ve been listening to your podcast for the past 2 days and it’s amazing how all of our stories of coming back are the same. It’s making my testimony so much stronger. In fact last night I finally scheduled my Patriarchal Blessing appointment last night. I’ve had the recommend since April Conference. Yes I’m 65 and left the church 50 years ago and have been back for almost a year and have never been happier.

Genuinely curious, what do you think/feel about the come back stories of those in other religions? For example, someone who rejoins the seventh day adventists after years away, who has a profound spiritual experience that reminds them their church is true, despite their flawed leaders and questionable history. And every day since then is reminded, by the fruits of their lives, that it is true. Are those experiences equally as valid in your opinion?
@@jeffyates9821 100%. I’m LDS but I consider myself a fellow traveler with other faiths. Christian and non-Christian. All of my in-laws are evangelical Christians and some have stepped away and I’d 100% celebrate them returning to their faith. I think God rejoices any time His children draw closer to Him. That doesn’t in any way negate my testimony of the restored gospel. Now let me ask you a question. Should someone’s transcendent religious/born-again experience in another faith aside from mine threaten my testimony in some way and if so why? I’ve had a few profound unmistakable witnesses from God that I can’t deny and the message was clear and personal. There’s no way I can speak to another’s experience. In the event someone were to tell me they had a witness from God and the witness they received directly contradicted my own (which btw has never happened) it wouldn’t in the least cause me to question my witness unless I were to receive a follow-up manifestation from God letting my know I misinterpreted the message. We don’t and never have claimed to have special access to spiritual manifestations.
It's quite amazing to see that those who need the atonement more are more forgiving of the faults of early church leaders. I learned so much from this episode.
You are exactly right. Like I said in the podcast, I WANT church leaders to make mistakes and utilize the atonement just like we do. Our Savior’s sacrifice is literally for everyone.

So wonderful! You were converted by the power of the Holy Ghost! I came back to the Church after being away for close to 30 years. I struggled in some similar ways, but after praying and really putting in the work of reading sceriptures and studying the gospel, the Holy Ghost caught hold of me and I completely Knew the Church is true! I was absent for 15 years, (thru my 20s, marriage- till mid 30s divorce....the worst years of my life! If I had read the BoM when I was younger, I would never have gone inactive. I read the BoM when less active in 4 days and it was an amazing revelation to me.. God bless.

Wow. The revelations at the end of this video 👌 spot on. Growing up in the church I had the misconception that all prophets were “perfect”. I’ve now realized that they are not and it’s actually comforting to me.
If you are a human and not Christ himself you are imperfect and will have failings, that doesn't mean you can't do God's work and that you can't receive revelation. I believe that's part of what Joseph Smith was trying to share with the world. The average human being can make an impact and a difference and can receive revelation from the holy spirit that will impact their own lives and indirectly the lives of others for the better. I'm so grateful for the Gospel, it has enriched my life more than I can even express. The Adversary wants us to see our religion as a burden instead of a blessing and if he can, he will do everything in his power to nudge us in the direction of seeing things that way. Don't fall for it. I've lived on both sides of the coin - it's better on this side 😉 Good job Landon, stay strong, we're rooting for you!

This episode was INCREDIBLE! It’s amazing what a change of heart can do to someone. I love that he mentioned he was reading scriptures while he was anti. I know a few people who claim to read scriptures when they are having serious doubt and people assume they are not reading scriptures just because they have serious doubt. It just goes to show that little things like that do matter even when you’re not sure if they matter at the moment.

The joy of becoming a tolerant loving generous hearted person - in other words, more Christ like - that’s the mission of the Church. Knowing things is nice, but it’s not as important as living the life and applying the principles 🙏👏👏👏🙏
I remember when my friends and acquaintances from my mission, BYU, high school, etc. started leaving the church, and then members of my own family - I kept thinking "I'd love to fast forward 10 years and see how many of these people end up coming back." Then of course I had my own time of struggle, although I never really left. Your podcast is great evidence that everyone has their own journey to come to know God, and just because some have chosen a different path for now, doesn't mean their journey won't lead them back years down the road. I have hope that my friends and family members who have left will have "spots prepared in their hearts" to receive what God has for them. And in the meantime, I find myself thinking a lot less black and white about them and their current choices, and just loving them. We are all on this journey doing the best we can to figure life out. I love the gospel and the church and what it has all meant for me in my life. Thanks for providing a place where these types of experiences can be shared and learned from.
I do this all the time! When I get caught up in the fact that a family member left the church, I tell myself "They'll be back in 10 years" and I start counting down. Obviously I don't know if that's true, but it helps me have perspective that what someone thinks today isn't what they'll always think.
Highly unlikely they will be back. The longer you are out, the more you see how absurd every aspect of the church is. It’s so good being out of the grip of ridiculousness.

When I have to meet my bishop I looked him every time the spirit tales me that he’s been called too represent God and spirit files my soul.the history of the church it does not bather me because we are imperfect people.thank you for sharing your story 👏👏😊🥲
I'm in my second inactive phase with the church during my 30s, focusing more on my relationship with the Savior without being involved in a specific orthodoxy for now, and I really loved this episode. I would like to share more context about Joseph smith polygamy: Almost all of Joseph Smith plural unions were influenced by “The Law of Adoption”: a very commo practice in the early years of the church to 1)link the families for the after life and 2)expand the number of children born into the covenant. For example, in the case of Helen (the 14yrs old), it was mostly to link the families for the after life. They got sealed in her parents home with her parents present and she NEVER left her home to live with Joseph or anything like that. She never treated/say Joseph smith as a “husband”. She actually married her husband in the Navuoo Temple two years later, they had 11 children together and one of her children became an apostle of the Church. She was a faithful member of the Church until dead. Yes, almost all of those women got “married” to their actual husbands some months or years later.
What's the scriptural basis for eternity only sealings? It is clear that polygamy is an abomination unless it is to raise up seed, what makes you say that he didn't have sexual relationships with his wives in defiance of D&c 132 and Jacob 2:30? Can a man promise you exaltation for you and your family if you marry him? What authority does he have to make that determination? It goes against the atonement of Jesus christ and the 2nd article of faith. It is a mockery of the atonement and the agency god gave us.
For eternity only is much worse than time only, because it means eternal polygamy. I hope it is not true and it isn't like that at all, and will be eternal monogamy.

Wow! Thank you for sharing. Your experience is a miracle. There are answers to every question but prayer is always a big part of the answers. There are so many lies about Joseph and the Book of Mormon etc. Joseph was not perfect but he was way better than he is usually given credit. I hope to meet him someday. The Book of Mormon is the answer to everything to prepare our souls to meet our Savior.
His experience is similar to that of St. Thomas Aquinas. He wrote piles and piles of the apologetics for the Catholic Church. Was a genius. After he had a mystical experience, he said that everything he wrote was worthless. When Landon's experienced that transformation and peace in his life, the details become trivial.
I have a brother who is in the same boat you were in. He HATES the church for the same reasons you did….lies, misrepresentations, etc. His wife has gone away as well as his RM son. I hope that a day will come when he has a heart-changing experience like you did. Thank you so much for your story. Embrace that we are perfectly imperfect…and it’s okay.

The gospel is true, beautiful and wonderful. Nothing compares to the tranquility it brings to me when I am keeping the commandments. God loves us and He continues to work with us all. His plan is perfect and His love is reaching everyone!

"Wherever you are, it's okay" - after 7 years of heroin addiction (and every other substance you can name) I came back to the church about 8 years ago and I would not be here without it. Sometimes you have to go off the path and experience a little darkness to truly and deeply understand and appreciate the light of Christ ❤ I'm so glad I found this podcast. Stop worrying about black and white - the gray is where we all live. Find what works for you. Christ himself surrounded himself with redeemed sinners and used them for his purposes. Those of us who are "prodigal children" can make an incredible impact. Love this!
This was excellent! And do we really believe in the power of Jesus's sacrifice to cleanse us completely when we ask for it if we never allow our leaders to make mistakes? The good news, the best news, is that you can be forgiven and can start again, no matter what your past is, because there's Someone who always wants you to be close to Him and wants you to be joyful.
Thanks Landon and Ashly for all the good you are doing. I wish that Landon had made it clear that Joseph Smith was sealed to a 14 year old, Heber C. Kimball's daughter, only for eternity. He didn't live with her. That sealing was a request by her parents. She married another man and had 11 children with him. Joseph Smith was an imperfect human but he wasn't nearly as imperfect as his critics make him sound like he was. The secondary questions really are fluff and don't matter. Those who wrote the CES Letter are apostates and that letter is a mixture of half-truths and fabrications and it should be totally ignored.
Also to add, the reason Heber C. Kimball requested Joseph Smith to be sealed his daughter was to unite his family with the smith family. There is good likelihood that all of the women Joseph Smith was sealed to had no sexual relationships with him. There is no evidence of any of them having a child with him.
Fruits of the Spirit, they're real. Objectively quantifiable and verifiable. The peace of the Saviour is real. That feeling of inner cleanliness and purity that comes from living the gospel is not understood better than by those of us who have truly lived in the gutter. The Saviour lives. The Book of Mormon testifies of Him. Joseph was His prophet.
Alma the Younger I think the most touching part of this story is that God used the pure heart of your daughter as a vessel with a desire to be baptized that led you to go speak to your bishop. God is wonderful.

Great story! Feels almost EXACTLY like my own. One caution I would give, I have followed Bill Reel from the very early early days when he very first started his podcast. He has changed into a person that I don't recognize anymore. Whenever I feel that doubt creeping in again, I just remember where he is now and how I don't want to be there. @@HedinGolf when he first started his podcast as a way to faithfully help others to stay in the church he was truly sincere and had a christlike spirit you could feel through those early episodes. I actually donated to his podcast for a few months. but, then you could see him slowly change over years and years and now there is just vitriol and bitterness there. I am sure he is still a decent man generally but some of his podcasts with RFM talking about sexuality and open relationships among other things just turns my stomach.
In, 1998, I came back to Church after going with a friend to Overeaters Anonymous. I attended AA meetings/understood my parents. Adult Children of Alcoholics's meetings help me relate to the family. I found Melody Beattie book, "Co-Dependent No More". I started to changed my life. JESUS saved me/so I can help others (Isaiah 61:3).
Landon…. Look up DON BRADLEY…. He is an historian of the BOOK OF MORMON. He also left the church and now has come back. He has found such wonderful and miraculous things in the history as he studied out many things that Joseph Smith did. We don’t need to ignore history . This gospel is even more amazing hearing what he has found. Thank you for your testimony. Remember the talk …” doubt your doubts before you doubt what your feelings tell you.The spirit bears witness to all. You spoke of having the constant companion with you now. Hold strong hold true. There are so many examples in the scriptures of rough characters having complete change of heart then being used as an instrument to further God’s work like Alma and sons of Mosiah and Paul. They had experiences that completely changed their character. God used very imperfect people to accomplish his work. Your experience gives so much hope and encouragement. I love you story. I’ve been inactive for 10 years or so. My greatest desire is to have someone explain some things without trying to convert me. Just listen and give me something to work with. So far it hasn’t happened.

Those who go after the church for its history are only our to tear down, break apart, disrupt… The Gospel restores, builds up and harmonizes. It probably isn’t but it seems like a no brainer to me.
Thank you for sharring your testimony. Ive not been down the same path as you but I have had my time with plenty of people that manipulate like those that you mentioned. Those you called friends, those that sol purpose is to lead people away from the restored Church of Jesus Christ. They are those who were spoken of by the Prophet Lehi when he wrote: They are " in the attitude of mocking and pointing their fingers towards those who had come at and were partaking of the fruit." I've been in their presence many times, they don't last long with me because, with Christ no one has the power to manipulate.
Elder Corbridge - "Stand Forever' One of the Best BYU talks about how going into the rabbit hole of anti-LDS material will lead you nowhere. It's about Faith and Repentance... becoming right with God. Test the Doctrine to know of its veracity and truth.
That is a wonderful talk. I’ve listened to it two or three times and am amazed at the strength Bro Corbridge had to be able to do what he was tasked to do. The Holy Ghost for sure attended him every minute of that journey.
Way to keep searching!! The scriptures parallel real life. A "faith crisis" isn't a crisis at all as long as we're searching with real intent. We all wonder in the wilderness, it's going to happen! But reaching our Promised Land is only assured as long as we're being honest in our search. So happy for you. You're story sounds like Don Bradley's. If you haven't already, look him up.
I have never understood why seer stones in a hat derail people’s testimony, I don’t really care how we got the Book of Mormon but I am for sure going to it the benefit of the doubt but realize not everyone is the same. I heard Bill Reel say that when he got high in ecstasy that it was the most spiritual experience that he had had👎. That just shows he has no idea what a spiritual experience is. I am glad you found your way back and I hope you can help others that have been deceived. I hear some that have come back say that when they realized the anti’s lied to them that they realized how evil they really are.
@@HedinGolf the church has printed multiple pictures and stories over the last multiple decades, if members don’t read the church magazine or do more study doesn’t mean they are hiding the facts. The burden is on us as members to study.

Some of the best members I met while on my mission and some of the best missionaries in the scriptures were people who strongly opposed the church or the gospel before being converted. This includes Paul. You don’t see critics of the church discounting the Bible because of Paul’s past life when he was Saul. Also, you can ask for all the help you want from others to help you understand, but in the end, we all have to figure it out ourselves.
The book goes into that. denver used that exact method to discern whether it was Christ. He is very different, though. That’s for sure. Great man, but very different.
@@HedinGolf Read the book. Never read of Denver using that method in the book. I likewise had already studied having your calling and election made sure and found Denver to be lacking in many aspects of that doctrine. Denver doesn't believe in the keys of the priesthood since they get in the way of setting himself up as a prophet. He denounces the organization of the Church and views it as a corporation. He is a lawyer and definitely has a way with spinning narratives more so with those who haven't studied church history that he touches upon. Their was a lawyer in the Book of Mormon who had mastery of the language of the Nephites that in enabled him to more fully deceive the Nephites. One thing both lawyers lack is the power of the Holy Ghost. Snuffer denounces sculpture that denounces him as a false prophet and omits church history that likewise does so. One example is his denunciations of Doctrine and Covenants 110. His relaying upon David Whitmer to say their was no offices in the church etc. but doesn't want us to take Whitmer's word that Joseph was a prophet that fell. Nor did Whitmer consider the Doctrine and Covenants as scripture, but Snuffer wants to use his interpretation of certain parts of D&C 124 as evidence that the restoration failed, But not other parts that contradict his theory. The devil used scripture to tempt Christ. Christ used more sculpture to counter Satan. So it is with Snuffer. He uses scripture and church history, but it can be countered with more scripture and more church history. Despite Snuffers denouncing, denying, and omitting of miracles in church history their are still miracles happing today within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Thanks for this. So happy for you and your guest. I do think that when it comes to historical issues, there is a lot we don't actually know and plenty of context we are missing, so why would I be so eager to condemn people in the early restoration. In the end, I believe that Joseph and his companions will come out as exceptionally good people. In the meantime, I will enjoy the beautiful fruits of the spirit that I enjoy as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
So interesting that he said he was scared that his family would leave the church if he talked to them about his unbelief. Even while he was actively advertising for people who tear down other's faith. That tells me in his heart he still wanted the best for his family, and he thought the church had value, even though he himself didn't believe at that time.
While you are correct that all the questions about church history are “fluff” I’d like to recommend The Joseph Smith Foundation to help find some answers to some of your questions. I’ve been catching back up with your videos. I really enjoy true crime and had several channels I enjoyed watching. Then the whole Jodi H and Ruby Franke thing happened. Two of my favorites began reporting on it and of course it became a anti Mormon thing both by the creators and those in the chats and comments. I’ve found myself defending the church and people telling me I’m wrong. I’ve been a member for 53 years and I’m a convert. I love the gospel. In all these conversations I know I have not been wrong. The crazy ideas people come up with 😮! Plus they are going to the anti Mormon channels for their information. I reached out to two of them and gave them a link to the church’s stance on child abuse. I corrected them in the information they were putting out. One did apologize to me but then turned around on Friday night and was even worse!!! I mean she has some ex Mormon doctor telling her the church pays members to create CZcams channels to say nice things about the church. You might want to check into that Ashley! He told her that he had done that with his wife prior to leaving the church. And this is an intelligent woman, she’s a lawyer. Tonight the other guy I like is ex NYPD Sargent, he ignored the email I had sent to him. Tonight he kept saying the Apostles were referring Jodi H to members for therapy. He got that info from the guy who runs Mormon Stories. I finally stopped trying to correct him in the chat and unsubscribed from his channel. I had just recently found another true crime I thought I would like. A husband wife team from Vegas. She had been a reporter for channel four in SLC. Sadly their total focus is on bad Mormons. Or I should say former ones but they don’t let that little detail get in the way. I suspected the wife had some affiliation with the church at sometime because she is extremely knowledgeable. It was confirmed today that she is LDS but is not active. Another viewer told me. She really pushes Mormon Stories. So in three days I’ve unsubscribed from three channels. I’ve gone from anger to extreme sadness over the complete lies these people are spreading. But then I reminded myself that nearly every time negative comes out about the church we end up gaining members. Because people start to research the church and find what we truly believe. This is a long way of me telling you how much I love your channel. I’ve been here twice this weekend because I needed cheering up. I’ve also recommended your channel to all three of the CZcamsrs I left 😂. Thank you for your work. The Lord knew just how to try and test you so you can now help others. Thank you so much for all you do and making my sad day a little brighter.
This simple fact of it all is that we now have the Book of Mormon. That's it. It is here, and it converts. Nothing else matters. We can read it, feel the spirit of the Lord and know that He lives! That He loves us and we can return to Him! Doesn't matter who did what and when. Even if you don't agree with current church policies and practices. Doesn't matter. Read the Book of Mormon, come closer to God, feel His love, have true joy and happiness in your life. Wickedness never was nor ever will be happiness. Thanks for sharing.

I've been struggling a bit with a crisis of faith of my own for a while now - struggling to make sense of the world. This interview was very encouraging for me. Thank you so much.
@@napaljarrinappaljarri5175 There have been a number of incidents in the past few years that have left me struggling with feelings of nihlism of late. My efforts to follow divine and/or prophetic council all seem to backfire. I suffered permanent injury for following the prophet in one instance, which has left me battling feelings of anger and resentment toward both the prophet and God. It has left me feeling a bit lost as to purpose, direction, etc... One day at a time right now, hoping the light at the end of the tunnel will come in site before much longer.
I'm new to this channel so this podcast is the first I've listened to. Thank you both for your humility and sincerity. I love it that your approach isn't accusatory and blaming. I've come to the conclusion recently too that God will work with people who are willing to accept a call regardless of their past or current imperfections. Think of how Saul went to Paul! God always sees our full potential whether or not we can see it in ourselves.
I don't know...I am a great fan of reading all about the church, the history, testimonies, the words of the prophets. When I come to parts where there are differing accounts, I remember what someone said when I first joined the church..." The church is perfect, but people are not". Therefore we all make mistakes. I had a witness of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, that I cannot forget nor deny. My spirit was on fire. So, what ever disagreements there are about the early accounts, is not important enough to forget my testimony, and the heavenly witness I had and by the way all the miracles I experienced in the temple...I know this church is true, and that is all that is important.
One of my close cousins, who was basically like my sister growing up, had a faith crisis five years ago. I remember the day she called me crying having just left a meeting with her Bishop. Up to this point she had been struggling with the church and had many doctrinal questions. Sadly at this point I was also questioning a lot of things and was not the best advocate for the church. I am not aware of what exactly transpired in that meeting with her Bishop, but whatever happened was the catalyst that caused her to leave the church. To get to my point, I found this channel a few weeks ago and have loved hearing inspiring stories of returning brothers and sisters. I am now at a point in my life and my understanding of the gospel that I can exclaim how true The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is. I wish I had been able to do so when it potentially could have made an impact in my cousins life. Nonetheless, it brings me so much happiness and gratitude hearing the wonderful stories on your youtube channel. And thank you to all who have been interviewed about their journeys of faith. I have found solace and comfort in knowing that God is continually working miracles to bring even the most unbelieving back into the fold.
The story is good. I think many of these folks dont know the Lord. Activity in the church has nothing to do with knowing God. People like saying I was this and that in the church and I served a mission is not enough. You got to know the Lord on a personal level.
I find these stories so interesting. I’ve heard several testimonies recently from people whose lives were in shambles and they hit a point where they had to make a change. Or they had a chance meeting with someone that changed the course of their lives, and they turned things around. Some of them go to AA, some find the SDA or JW. Some go back to their upbringing in their catholic faith. And some like Landon go back to their religious upbringing in the LDS church. But they all attribute the incredible change in their lives to whatever it was that helped them begin making better choices and living a better life. Praying, having faith in God, loving instead of hating, etc. Their experiences are all so similar and they are all absolutely convinced that what they believe is true because of the “fruits” in their lives. Just further confirms to me that God loves all his children and there are many ways back to him. And no one way is a perfect fit for everyone. And that’s ok. I also find it interesting that we hear a lot from people who left the LDS faith and they are angry or hurting and want to share with others. They are the out spoken ones…but I know many people personally who were really unhappy in the church. And after leaving, their lives didn’t devolve into drugs and affairs. They became exponentially happier. They have more joy and peace in their lives. Some left recently, others 20+ years. And they wouldn’t go back for anything. We don’t hear from those people because they left and moved on. They don’t even think about the church, much less spend all their time trying to research the history or tear it down. It doesn’t matter to them; it’s in the past. They moved on with life, found a better way (it’s different for everyone) and are very happy. If there’s one thing I’ve learned through my personal “faith crisis”(more like a trust crisis), it’s that there are good, amazing people all over the world in (almost) every religion. There are miracles and spiritual experiences in every religion. God loves all his children and anyone who puts forth the effort, regardless of religion or belief can experience Him in their lives. The idea that there is only one way back doesn’t make sense to me anymore. And the arguments that make the LDS church true for someone who has studied the issues are the same arguments that make the SDA, JW, Catholic, Baptist, etc. true. People have confirming spiritual experiences in all of these religions, despite their flawed leaders and questionable history. I guess all we can do is our best. Love God and love others. Be good and do good. It definitely sounds like Landon is where God wants him to be. I'm happy for him.
Well there is only one way back. It's not like God intentionally created all of these paths of confusion with differing requirements. He's one God and he has one way. That doesn't mean that everyone is going to find it in this life or that there won't be an opportunity for everyone... but people will be held accountable for the quantity of light and knowledge that they had and what they chose to do or not do with it.

But then again people are so diverse, with so many diverse ways of thinking and approaching spirituality (born and raised in those situations so not just choices), why would there be only one way to get through to them and help them learn the lessons they came here to learn and ultimately make it back to their creator? God isn't required to fit in the box mortals try and put Him in. But for the sake of conversation, if there is only one way back, then there is the lifelong struggle to find out which it is, and when and how you will know it. Which leads to the discussion of personal revelation, which every member of every religion (who actually makes the attempt) will claim they received, and now they KNOW theirs is the one true way. Which then leads to the conversation about conditioning, confirmation bias, the adversary appearing as light, and on and on. Lots of confusion in this world. Lots of confusion in every religion. So many trying to listen for that still small voice. One of the things that troubles me the most about even the LDS religion...how can God be the author of so much confusion? The BoA for example.

I don't have enough time to say much at the moment, but I will say this: God is not the author of confusion (or evil, bad things happening to good people, etc.) Rather he is the giver of life and free will! Which obviously creates much trouble. But that's why the Savior is part of the plan. To swallow up all that pain.
This is one of my favorite episodes. No doubt this will help countless people who are struggling. The fact Landon was willing to take the steps to connect his daughter with the Bishop demonstrated faith and humility. I believe that demonstration of humility and faith allowed the Spirit to penetrate his heart and led him to spontaneously make arrangements to speak with the Bishop after his daughter’s interview.
I know there’s so much more to this story, these are just my humble observations of some things. God IS Good All the time!!
On a side note, his new peace of mind regarding previously troubling topics/history issues is such a beautiful demonstration of how some things are truly only understood by the Spirit. The understanding given isn’t always factual, sometimes the understanding God gives us is peace.

Just a comment on church history is, everyone that joined the church came from different backgrounds. Everyone was learning a new way of life. No one was perfect. People then lived a different way than we do now. I tell others that as soon as you are perfect then you can judge those from the past and even people now. “Ye without sin cast the first stone.” I absolutely love your testimony. I had a time in my life when I walked away from the church. The testimony I gained by becoming active again is something I’ll treasure forever.

The part of church history that shakes people is not the history itself. It’s the fact that many historical events (like Joseph using a rock in a hat and his treasure seeking) were pounded into our heads as Anti-Mormon lies, only for the church to admit it later. If the church would have been honest from the very beginning we would all be much better off.
I’ve been listening to your podcast for the past 2 days and it’s amazing how all of our stories of coming back are the same. It’s making my testimony so much stronger. Thank you for these podcasts Ashley. You and all these people are making my decision to go back that much stronger. In fact last night I finally scheduled my Patriarchal Blessing appointment last night. I’ve had the recommend since April Conference. Yes I’m 65 and left the church 50 years ago and have been back for almost a year and have never been happier.

Genuinely curious, what do you think/feel about the come back stories of those in other religions? For example, someone who rejoins the seventh day adventists after years away, who has a profound spiritual experience that reminds them their church is true, despite their flawed leaders and questionable history. And every day since then is reminded, by the fruits of their lives, that it is true. Are those experiences equally as valid in your opinion?
@@jeffyates9821 100%. I’m LDS but I consider myself a fellow traveler with other faiths. Christian and non-Christian. All of my in-laws are evangelical Christians and some have stepped away and I’d 100% celebrate them returning to their faith. I think God rejoices any time His children draw closer to Him. That doesn’t in any way negate my testimony of the restored gospel. Now let me ask you a question. Should someone’s transcendent religious/born-again experience in another faith aside from mine threaten my testimony in some way and if so why? I’ve had a few profound unmistakable witnesses from God that I can’t deny and the message was clear and personal. There’s no way I can speak to another’s experience. In the event someone were to tell me they had a witness from God and the witness they received directly contradicted my own (which btw has never happened) it wouldn’t in the least cause me to question my witness unless I were to receive a follow-up manifestation from God letting my know I misinterpreted the message. We don’t and never have claimed to have special access to spiritual manifestations.

You are exactly right. Like I said in the podcast, I WANT church leaders to make mistakes and utilize the atonement just like we do. Our Savior’s sacrifice is literally for everyone.

I struggled in some similar ways, but after praying and really putting in the work of reading sceriptures and studying the gospel, the Holy Ghost caught hold of me and I completely Knew the Church is true! Wow. The revelations at the end of this video 👌 spot on. Growing up in the church I had the misconception that all prophets were “perfect”. I’ve now realized that they are not and it’s actually comforting to me.
Joseph Smith lied to his wife about his wives, including 14 year old girls and other men's wives. Imperfect is not the word to describe Joseph Smith.

If you are a human and not Christ himself you are imperfect and will have failings, that doesn't mean you can't do God's work and that you can't receive revelation. I believe that's part of what Joseph Smith was trying to share with the world. The average human being can make an impact and a difference and can receive revelation from the holy spirit that will impact their own lives and indirectly the lives of others for the better. I'm so grateful for the Gospel, it has enriched my life more than I can even express. The Adversary wants us to see our religion as a burden instead of a blessing and if he can, he will do everything in his power to nudge us in the direction of seeing things that way. Don't fall for it. I've lived on both sides of the coin - it's better on this side 😉 Good job Landon, stay strong, we're rooting for you!

This episode was INCREDIBLE! It’s amazing what a change of heart can do to someone. I love that he mentioned he was reading scriptures while he was anti. I know a few people who claim to read scriptures when they are having serious doubt and people assume they are not reading scriptures just because they have serious doubt. It just goes to show that little things like that do matter even when you’re not sure if they matter at the moment.

The joy of becoming a tolerant loving generous hearted person - in other words, more Christ like - that’s the mission of the Church. Knowing things is nice, but it’s not as important as living the life and applying the principles 🙏👏👏👏🙏
I remember when my friends and acquaintances from my mission, BYU, high school, etc. started leaving the church, and then members of my own family - I kept thinking "I'd love to fast forward 10 years and see how many of these people end up coming back." Then of course I had my own time of struggle, although I never really left. Your podcast is great evidence that everyone has their own journey to come to know God, and just because some have chosen a different path for now, doesn't mean their journey won't lead them back years down the road. I have hope that my friends and family members who have left will have "spots prepared in their hearts" to receive what God has for them. And in the meantime, I find myself thinking a lot less black and white about them and their current choices, and just loving them. We are all on this journey doing the best we can to figure life out. I love the gospel and the church and what it has all meant for me in my life. Thanks for providing a place where these types of experiences can be shared and learned from.
I do this all the time! When I get caught up in the fact that a family member left the church, I tell myself "They'll be back in 10 years" and I start counting down. Obviously I don't know if that's true, but it helps me have perspective that what someone thinks today isn't what they'll always think.

be back. The longer you are out, the more you see how absurd every aspect of the church is. It’s so good being out of the grip of ridiculousness.

I'm in my second inactive phase with the church during my 30s, focusing more on my relationship with the Savior without being involved in a specific orthodoxy for now, and I really loved this episode. “Why wouldn’t I want an Apostle to utilize the Atonement like I have?”
I would like to share more context about Joseph smith polygamy: Almost all of Joseph Smith plural unions were influenced by “The Law of Adoption”: a very commo practice in the early years of the church to 1)link the families for the after life and 2)expand the number of children born into the covenant. For example, in the case of Helen (the 14yrs old), it was mostly to link the families for the after life. They got sealed in her parents home with her parents present and she NEVER left her home to live with Joseph or anything like that. She never treated/say Joseph smith as a “husband”. She actually married her husband in the Navuoo Temple two years later, they had 11 children together and one of her children became an apostle of the Church. She was a faithful member of the Church until dead. Yes, almost all of those women got “married” to their actual husbands some months or years later.
Joseph’s polygamy was messy. Really messy. It doesn’t make sense to try and justify it. A lot of it was horrible, and that’s okay.
What's the scriptural basis for eternity only sealings? It is clear that polygamy is an abomination unless it is to raise up seed, what makes you say that he didn't have sexual relationships with his wives in defiance of D&c 132 and Jacob 2:30? Can a man promise you exaltation for you and your family if you marry him? What authority does he have to make that determination? It goes against the atonement of Jesus christ and the 2nd article of faith. It is a mockery of the atonement and the agency god gave us.

Wow! Thank you for sharing. Your experience is a miracle. There are answers to every question but prayer is always a big part of the answers. There are so many lies about Joseph and the Book of Mormon etc. Joseph was not perfect but he was way better than he is usually given credit. I hope to meet him someday. The Book of Mormon is the answer to everything to prepare our souls to meet our Savior.

His experience is similar to that of St. Thomas Aquinas. He wrote piles and piles of the apologetics for the Catholic Church. Was a genius. After he had a mystical experience, he said that everything he wrote was worthless.

"Wherever you are, it's okay" - after 7 years of heroin addiction (and every other substance you can name) I came back to the church about 8 years ago and I would not be here without it. Sometimes you have to go off the path and experience a little darkness to truly and deeply understand and appreciate the light of Christ ❤ I'm so glad I found this podcast. Stop worrying about black and white - the gray is where we all live. Find what works for you. Christ himself surrounded himself with redeemed sinners and used them for his purposes. Those of us who are "prodigal children" can make an incredible impact. Love this!

Thanks Landon and Ashly for all the good you are doing. I wish that Landon had made it clear that Joseph Smith was sealed to a 14 year old, Heber C. Kimball's daughter, only for eternity. He didn't live with her. That sealing was a request by her parents. She married another man and had 11 children with him. Joseph Smith was an imperfect human but he wasn't nearly as imperfect as his critics make him sound like he was. The secondary questions really are fluff and don't matter. Those who wrote the CES Letter are apostates and that letter is a mixture of half-truths and fabrications and it should be totally ignored.
Also to add, the reason Heber C. Kimball requested Joseph Smith to be sealed his daughter was to unite his family with the smith family. There is good likelihood that all of the women Joseph Smith was sealed to had no sexual relationships with him. There is no evidence of any of them having a child with him.
Fruits of the Spirit, they're real. Objectively quantifiable and verifiable. The peace of the Saviour is real. That feeling of inner cleanliness and purity that comes from living the gospel is not understood better than by those of us who have truly lived in the gutter. The Saviour lives. The Book of Mormon testifies of Him. Joseph was His prophet.

I think the most touching part of this story is that God used the pure heart of your daughter as a vessel with a desire to be baptized that led you to go speak to your bishop. God is wonderful.

Great story! Feels almost EXACTLY like my own. One caution I would give, I have followed Bill Reel from the very early early days when he very first started his podcast. @@HedinGolf when he first started his podcast as a way to faithfully help others to stay in the church he was truly sincere and had a christlike spirit you could feel through those early episodes. I actually donated to his podcast for a few months. but, then you could see him slowly change over years and years and now there is just vitriol and bitterness there. I am sure he is still a decent man generally but some of his podcasts with RFM talking about sexuality and open relationships among other things just turns my stomach.

In, 1998, I came back to Church after going with a friend to Overeaters Anonymous. I attended AA meetings/understood
my parents. Adult Children of Alcoholics's meetings help me relate to the family. I found Melody Beattie book, "Co-Dependent No More". I started to changed my life. JESUS saved me/so I can help others (Isaiah 61:3).

There are so many examples in the scriptures of rough characters having complete change of heart then being used as an instrument to further God’s work like Alma and sons of Mosiah and Paul. They had experiences that completely changed their character. God used very imperfect people to accomplish his work. Your experience gives so much hope and encouragement. I love you story. Fascinating story! Thank you for sharing. The whole by their fruits thing…I wish folks like Mr. Real could really understand that. Those who go after the church for its history are only our to tear down, break apart, disrupt… The Gospel restores, builds up and harmonizes. It probably isn’t but it seems like a no brainer to me.

Thank you for sharring your testimony. Ive not been down the same path as you but I have had my time with plenty of people that manipulate like those that you mentioned. Those you called friends, those that sol purpose is to lead people away from the restored Church of Jesus Christ. They are those who were spoken of by the Prophet Lehi when he wrote: They are " in the attitude of mocking and pointing their fingers towards those who had come at and were partaking of the fruit."
I've been in their presence many times, they don't last long with me because, with Christ no one has the power to manipulate.
Elder Corbridge - "Stand Forever' One of the Best BYU talks about how going into the rabbit hole of anti-LDS material will lead you nowhere. It's about Faith and Repentance... becoming right with God. Test the Doctrine to know of its veracity and truth.
That is a wonderful talk. I’ve listened to it two or three times and am amazed at the strength Bro Corbridge had to be able to do what he was tasked to do. The Holy Ghost for sure attended him every minute of that journey.
If all evidence pointed to truth their would be no faith. And we are here to test that and other principles in ourselves. ❤

Way to keep searching!! The scriptures parallel real life. A "faith crisis" isn't a crisis at all as long as we're searching with real intent. We all wonder in the wilderness, it's going to happen! But reaching our Promised Land is only assured as long as we're being honest in our search. So happy for you. You're story sounds like Don Bradley's. If you haven't already, look him up.
I have never understood why seer stones in a hat derail people’s testimony, I don’t really care how we got the Book of Mormon but I am for sure going to it the benefit of the doubt but realize not everyone is the same. I heard Bill Reel say that when he got high in ecstasy that it was the most spiritual experience that he had had👎. That just shows he has no idea what a spiritual experience is. I am glad you found your way back and I hope you can help others that have been deceived. I hear some that have come back say that when they realized the anti’s lied to them that they realized how evil they really are.
It’s not about how it actually happened. It’s about the church continuing to teach it incorrectly and hiding how it really happened.
@@HedinGolf the church has printed multiple pictures and stories over the last multiple decades, if members don’t read the church magazine or do more study doesn’t mean they are hiding the facts. The burden is on us as members to study.

Some of the best members I met while on my mission and some of the best missionaries in the scriptures were people who strongly opposed the church or the gospel before being converted. This includes Paul. You don’t see critics of the church discounting the Bible because of Paul’s past life when he was Saul.
Also, you can ask for all the help you want from others to help you understand, but in the end, we all have to figure it out ourselves.

The book goes into that. denver used that exact method to discern whether it was Christ. He is very different, though. That’s for sure. Great man, but very different.

@@HedinGolf Read the book. Never read of Denver using that method in the book. I likewise had already studied having your calling and election made sure and found Denver to be lacking in many aspects of that doctrine. Denver doesn't believe in the keys of the priesthood since they get in the way of setting himself up as a prophet. He denounces the organization of the Church and views it as a corporation. He is a lawyer and definitely has a way with spinning narratives more so with those who haven't studied church history that he touches upon. Their was a lawyer in the Book of Mormon who had mastery of the language of the Nephites that in enabled him to more fully deceive the Nephites. One thing both lawyers lack is the power of the Holy Ghost. Snuffer denounces sculpture that denounces him as a false prophet and omits church history that likewise does so.
One example is his denunciations of Doctrine and Covenants 110. His relaying upon David Whitmer to say their was no offices in the church etc. but doesn't want us to take Whitmer's word that Joseph was a prophet that fell. Nor did Whitmer consider the Doctrine and Covenants as scripture, but Snuffer wants to use his interpretation of certain parts of D&C 124 as evidence that the restoration failed, But not other parts that contradict his theory. The devil used scripture to tempt Christ. Christ used more sculpture to counter Satan. So it is with Snuffer. He uses scripture and church history, but it can be countered with more scripture and more church history. Despite Snuffers denouncing, denying, and omitting of miracles in church history their are still miracles happing today within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I do think that when it comes to historical issues, there is a lot we don't actually know and plenty of context we are missing, so why would I be so eager to condemn people in the early restoration. In the end, I believe that Joseph and his companions will come out as exceptionally good people. In the meantime, I will enjoy the beautiful fruits of the spirit that I enjoy as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
So interesting that he said he was scared that his family would leave the church if he talked to them about his unbelief. Even while he was actively advertising for people who tear down other's faith. That tells me in his heart he still wanted the best for his family, and he thought the church had value, even though he himself didn't believe at that time.
While you are correct that all the questions about church history are “fluff” I’d like to recommend The Joseph Smith Foundation to help find some answers to some of your questions. I’ve been catching back up with your videos. I really enjoy true crime and had several channels I enjoyed watching. Then the whole Jodi H and Ruby Franke thing happened. Two of my favorites began reporting on it and of course it became a anti Mormon thing both by the creators and those in the chats and comments. I’ve found myself defending the church and people telling me I’m wrong. I’ve been a member for 53 years and I’m a convert. I love the gospel. In all these conversations I know I have not been wrong. The crazy ideas people come up with 😮! Plus they are going to the anti Mormon channels for their information. I reached out to two of them and gave them a link to the church’s stance on child abuse. I corrected them in the information they were putting out. One did apologize to me but then turned around on Friday night and was even worse!!! I mean she has some ex Mormon doctor telling her the church pays members to create CZcams channels to say nice things about the church. You might want to check into that Ashley! He told her that he had done that with his wife prior to leaving the church. And this is an intelligent woman, she’s a lawyer. Tonight the other guy I like is ex NYPD Sargent, he ignored the email I had sent to him. Tonight he kept saying the Apostles were referring Jodi H to members for therapy. He got that info from the guy who runs Mormon Stories. I finally stopped trying to correct him in the chat and unsubscribed from his channel. I had just recently found another true crime I thought I would like. A husband wife team from Vegas. She had been a reporter for channel four in SLC. Sadly their total focus is on bad Mormons. Or I should say former ones but they don’t let that little detail get in the way. I suspected the wife had some affiliation with the church at sometime because she is extremely knowledgeable. It was confirmed today that she is LDS but is not active. Another viewer told me. She really pushes Mormon Stories. So in three days I’ve unsubscribed from three channels. I’ve gone from anger to extreme sadness over the complete lies these people are spreading. But then I reminded myself that nearly every time negative comes out about the church we end up gaining members. Because people start to research the church and find what we truly believe. This is a long way of me telling you how much I love your channel. I’ve been here twice this weekend because I needed cheering up. I’ve also recommended your channel to all three of the CZcamsrs I left 😂. Thank you for your work. The Lord knew just how to try and test you so you can now help others. Thank you so much for all you do and making my sad day a little brighter.

This simple fact of it all is that we now have the Book of Mormon. That's it. It is here, and it converts. Nothing else matters. We can read it, feel the spirit of the Lord and know that He lives! That He loves us and we can return to Him! Doesn't matter who did what and when. Even if you don't agree with current church policies and practices. Doesn't matter. Read the Book of Mormon, come closer to God, feel His love, have true joy and happiness in your life. Wickedness never was nor ever will be happiness. Thanks for sharing.

I've been struggling a bit with a crisis of faith of my own for a while now - struggling to make sense of the world. This interview was very encouraging for me. Thank you so much.

@@napaljarrinappaljarri5175 There have been a number of incidents in the past few years that have left me struggling with feelings of nihlism of late. My efforts to follow divine and/or prophetic council all seem to backfire. I suffered permanent injury for following the prophet in one instance, which has left me battling feelings of anger and resentment toward both the prophet and God. It has left me feeling a bit lost as to purpose, direction, etc... One day at a time right now, hoping the light at the end of the tunnel will come in site before much longer.
I'm new to this channel so this podcast is the first I've listened to. Thank you both for your humility and sincerity. I love it that your approach isn't accusatory and blaming. I've come to the conclusion recently too that God will work with people who are willing to accept a call regardless of their past or current imperfections. Think of how Saul went to Paul! God always sees our full potential whether or not we can see it in ourselves.

I don't know...I am a great fan of reading all about the church, the history, testimonies, the words of the prophets. When I come to parts where there are differing accounts, I remember what someone said when I first joined the church..." The church is perfect, but people are not". Therefore we all make mistakes. I had a witness of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, that I cannot forget nor deny. My spirit was on fire. So, what ever disagreements there are about the early accounts, is not important enough to forget my testimony, and the heavenly witness I had and by the way all the miracles I experienced in the temple...I know this church is true, and that is all that is important.
One of my close cousins, who was basically like my sister growing up, had a faith crisis five years ago. I remember the day she called me crying having just left a meeting with her Bishop. Up to this point she had been struggling with the church and had many doctrinal questions. Sadly at this point I was also questioning a lot of things and was not the best advocate for the church. I am not aware of what exactly transpired in that meeting with her Bishop, but whatever happened was the catalyst that caused her to leave the church. To get to my point, I found this channel a few weeks ago and have loved hearing inspiring stories of returning brothers and sisters. I am now at a point in my life and my understanding of the gospel that I can exclaim how true The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is. I wish I had been able to do so when it potentially could have made an impact in my cousins life. Nonetheless, it brings me so much happiness and gratitude hearing the wonderful stories on your youtube channel. And thank you to all who have been interviewed about their journeys of faith. I have found solace and comfort in knowing that God is continually working miracles to bring even the most unbelieving back into the fold.
The story is good. I think many of these folks dont know the Lord. Activity in the church has nothing to do with knowing God. People like saying I was this and that in the church and I served a mission is not enough. You got to know the Lord on a personal level.

I find these stories so interesting. I’ve heard several testimonies recently from people whose lives were in shambles and they hit a point where they had to make a change. Or they had a chance meeting with someone that changed the course of their lives, and they turned things around. Some of them go to AA, some find the SDA or JW. Some go back to their upbringing in their catholic faith. And some like Landon go back to their religious upbringing in the LDS church. But they all attribute the incredible change in their lives to whatever it was that helped them begin making better choices and living a better life. Praying, having faith in God, loving instead of hating, etc. Their experiences are all so similar and they are all absolutely convinced that what they believe is true because of the “fruits” in their lives. Just further confirms to me that God loves all his children and there are many ways back to him. And no one way is a perfect fit for everyone. And that’s ok.
I also find it interesting that we hear a lot from people who left the LDS faith and they are angry or hurting and want to share with others. They are the out spoken ones…but I know many people personally who were really unhappy in the church. And after leaving, their lives didn’t devolve into drugs and affairs. They became exponentially happier. They have more joy and peace in their lives. Some left recently, others 20+ years. And they wouldn’t go back for anything. We don’t hear from those people because they left and moved on. They don’t even think about the church, much less spend all their time trying to research the history or tear it down. It doesn’t matter to them; it’s in the past. They moved on with life, found a better way (it’s different for everyone) and are very happy.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned through my personal “faith crisis”(more like a trust crisis), it’s that there are good, amazing people all over the world in (almost) every religion. There are miracles and spiritual experiences in every religion. God loves all his children and anyone who puts forth the effort, regardless of religion or belief can experience Him in their lives.
The idea that there is only one way back doesn’t make sense to me anymore. And the arguments that make the LDS church true for someone who has studied the issues are the same arguments that make the SDA, JW, Catholic, Baptist, etc. true. People have confirming spiritual experiences in all of these religions, despite their flawed leaders and questionable history.
I guess all we can do is our best. Love God and love others. Be good and do good.

Well there is only one way back. It's not like God intentionally created all of these paths of confusion with differing requirements. He's one God and he has one way. That doesn't mean that everyone is going to find it in this life or that there won't be an opportunity for everyone... but people will be held accountable for the quantity of light and knowledge that they had and what they chose to do or not do with it.

But then again people are so diverse, with so many diverse ways of thinking and approaching spirituality (born and raised in those situations so not just choices), why would there be only one way to get through to them and help them learn the lessons they came here to learn and ultimately make it back to their creator? God isn't required to fit in the box mortals try and put Him in.
But for the sake of conversation, if there is only one way back, then there is the lifelong struggle to find out which it is, and when and how you will know it. Which leads to the discussion of personal revelation, which every member of every religion (who actually makes the attempt) will claim they received, and now they KNOW theirs is the one true way. Which then leads to the conversation about conditioning, confirmation bias, the adversary appearing as light, and on and on.
Lots of confusion in this world. Lots of confusion in every religion. So many trying to listen for that still small voice.
One of the things that troubles me the most about even the LDS religion...how can God be the author of so much confusion? The BoA for example.

I don't have enough time to say much at the moment, but I will say this: God is not the author of confusion (or evil, bad things happening to good people, etc.) Rather he is the giver of life and free will! Which obviously creates much trouble. But that's why the Savior is part of the plan. To swallow up all that pain.
