    This video is the best for this issue. None of the other videos show how to remove the old - they just say remove it.

    I have to say that I found it much easier to remove the bottom rail, clean it thoroughly and then slide in the new bottom seal, then reinstall the bottom rail back to the garage door. Took about 20 minutes to do!

    I CANNOT thank you enough for this. A few years ago, I had a guy install pipe insulation at the bottom of the door and continued to do so over the years. I had no idea there was a better way. Just bought the rubber seal and successfully installed it.

    The slabs, for my two car garage, are lower at the sides. A standard 2" door seal leaves a gap. I bought the 6" seal, which ensures a good seal at the ends. Silicon spray ensured it was easy to slide. While it would be easier with two people. One person can do this.

      @HighRidgeHandyman  Před 3 lety

      Not sure why. I just stop it halfway so I can work on it. Makes it easier for me to reach. Just make sure nobody hits the button when your replacing it. As for disengaging it you would then need to rest it on something in order to pull the new one thru. Seems harder that way. Good luck👍🏻

    Instead of that flat seal that you form into a U shape, what do you think of replacing it with the type with the same U shape but has an O tube through the middle and length of it?

    I seen were you let your door flatten the rubber piece. Think when I install mine I’ll get the door to stop about 1/2” from grounding out the rubber seal. Thoughts?

    • @HighRidgeHandyman
      @HighRidgeHandyman  Před 3 lety +2

      This particular job had an uneven ground so it had to go a little bit lower on one side than the other. If you have a level base it’s still OK to let it sit snug to keep air and any kind of critters out. They’re so inexpensive you can replace them every so many years. Good luck

      Bead comes from the factory. Just razor it out. The new one slides right into place. That’s if the bottom track isn’t beat to hell😩 👍🏻

      @@HighRidgeHandyman I understand what you're saying but yes my problem is that the previous homeowner took what appears to be a flat head screw driver to the edges and hammered the last 1/2" shut on either side. I was able to open it, and roughly reshape with a metal pin but the seal will not slide into the track. It catches and starts to shred, took an hour to get 1' with minimal damage. Ordering a replacement track. No worries and thanks for the reply.

      I'm trying to replace the seal on my garage doors and they haven't been replaced in over 30 years. Dried, crusted ,and cracking into pieces while I'm pulling it out and the ends appear crimped or tighter than the rest of the track. Do people crimp the ends to keep the seal in?

    • @timg6223
      @timg6223 Před 3 lety +2

      @@ketoabigail3306 Save yourself the trouble, I had the same issue recently. Replace the track and seal at the same time. My track had a bead instead of the T shape, ordered that to then realize the crimped edges. I uncrimped the edges and reshaped around a metal rod the best I could, the seal wouldn't slide on the track without tearing. Wasted $30 bucks. Ordered a replacement track that came with a seal for $35, self tapping screws, easy job, done in 30 mins. no headaches.
