I think the box truck and the pickup truck with no trailer are the two best setups. Most efficient and a clean look. Hauling a trailer is a pain in the a$$ no matter how experienced you are.
I would put a sign on the back of one of the ramps if you want your logo on the back.
Dang I thought I was the only one mowing out of a school bus yellow box truck.
Well that makes 2 of us! I didn't like it at first but it really pops out at you. People see yellow and automatically think it's a bus driving down the road. Have a great 2022 season!
Sweet set up .
Shindaiwa T27 ole school metal/ plastic handle with the foam air filter , I have 3 of em and I used the Stihl Commercial lines but I stick with Shindaiwa for weed eaters . Only have a Stihl arborist chain saw and the articulating pole hedger from Stihl & this year I picked up a Stihl had hedger that’s manufactured from Deutschland. Bought her used from a pawn shop .

Yeah , I also own a open 16 ‘ landscaping trailer. I wanna get a box truck also as I’m currently driving a Duramax 4x4 long bed .
I guess with tow stand on mowers and not needing a 34” or 36” makes your job a lot faster .

After 19 years. I’ve fired everyone and am going back to solo work. I’m real tired of todays useless workers. Much respect for the solo worker.
Yeah when I started getting into the business a friend of mine that's been in the business for 20 plus years said a word of advice is stay small. He said if you can get by on running a solo business and have the flexibility and make enough money to get by along with less stress do that. He said he dreaded dealing with employees. This is my 7th season and I'm still solo and love it! Have a great 2022 season!
@@turningoveranewleaflawncar952 Your friend gave you sound advice. The stress of employees and always having to hustle took its toll on me. I will say though, I wouldn’t have what I have if it wasn’t for having a bigger company for so long. At one point 2-3 full time guys for over a decade plus a hand full of part timers. I’ll be 42 this year. Finished out last year solo and I have my 14 yr old for help this year if I really need it.
Would also like to say I really like your setup man. It’s sharp and is layed out very well. I’ve been kicking around the idea of making a box truck into a camper/toy hauler. That steel ramp gate you have is perfect. Gonna subscribe now. Have a safe and profitable season man. I look forward to more of your videos.
You just have to pay $22-25 an hour to get quality work. I have 15 acre accounts that pay $1,600 per cut that I could never do myself. That’s 35 residential houses in one price wise. I’m not killing myself to just get by. Charge more than your average company and do great work. Don’t base your price on other people’s price. 7-10 people are not charging enough for good service and buy the best equipment.

Very nice setup. It's almost the same setup I have. I run an isuzu box truck with Ferris 52" and 72" mowers. I have trimmer trap racks
Thanks for your message! I was planning to get an Isuzu box truck but this GMC just happen to fall in my lap. I still may get an Isuzu truck down the road but for now I'll run this one and eventually get another truck for backup or start running a second crew. Coming from a truck and trailer I wanted to see how I'd like a box truck setup. After getting used to it I don't ever want to go back to a truck and trailer setup.
Nice set up I have gone over to Makita because alot or there stuff is 4 stroke so mainly keep regular petrol only main 2 stroke stuff are chainsaws l 1 hedge cutter and 1 petrol hand held vac

Dude has the cleanest equipment I’ve ever seen !
That's because I did this video before the start of this season. My dealer always services them and cleans them up for me. I try to keep them clean throughout the season by blowing them off in between cuts and wash them when I have time. Thanks for the compliment! Have a great 2022 season!

I have talked about this idea for several years. It's nice to see this is basically what I was envisioning you did a very nice job. Everything is easy to reach like you said you keep in safety in mind congratulations. I hope you have a safe and profitable year. Thanks I appreciate it! I originally wanted a white uhaul truck with the mom's attic over top of the cab. I found this old Penske truck for sale locally and picked it up. It's been a process turning it into my mowing truck. I love it now looking at it sitting in a neighborhood the yellow really sticks out like a school bus. After many years of running my truck and trailer the box truck setup is another nice alternative. It's my shed on wheels! I can't wait to see your setup! Have a great 2022 season!

I love this!!! My neighbor does metal fabrication so u can get the lift gate fairly cheap. I'm doing battery powered so I would be panels on top to charge batteries. The chargers would be mounted on the walls. The only thing gas powered would be the zero turn mower.

@slowb4lls1 yeah I demoed the Wright zk and it left clumps all over the yards in wet grass. Awesome looking mower with the dual gas tanks but it didn't compare to my z3x 61".

Love the setup! I've got the same 2017 model Z2 52" w/ the Vanguard. It's my favorite mower. Yours still looks brand new! Where can I get a Ferris plate like yours?
Thanks J! I love my Ferris mowers! Ever since I bought my z3x my z2 gets a little more dusty. I mainly use my z3x and wherever that doesn't fit I use my z2. That Ferris plate I ended up having made at a local farmers market for $25. There was a guy at the market that made custom signs and plates. I asked if he could make a Ferris plate for my box truck and bam! I showed it to my dealer because I had asked them if they had any or could get me one but none to be found. This plate worked out great. My buddy is a Scag guy and I ended up picking a plate up for him too.
Nice setup, I'd grab a dash cam with rear facing camera if you haven't. Help keep an eye on you and your gear and you have something to show insurance if someone steals from or hits ya.

@spencermorris3762 I found this one locally owned by a moving company. This one is a 2004 and had 180,000, and I picked it up for around $7,000. I looked at new box trucks, but they were too expensive. I wasn't sure if I'd like the box truck setup, so I didn't want to buy new, so I went the used route. Having it now for the past 2 seasons. I love it, and I don't think I'll ever go back to a truck and trailer setup again. I still have my old setup in case this is in the shop or down for some reason. Gotta have a backup in this business because you never know when you may need it. I've seen newer trucks with less mileage for $15,000-$25,000 that they are selling on the Penske website. I may do that on my next box truck.
@@turningoveranewleaflawncar952 thanks for all the info! And yes I’m finding them for around $20-$25K with around 100-150K miles. Just need to figure out the ramp situation. I was looking at the Morgan ramp system for their Pro Scape system. I would love to know how much it cost for this type of system. If it’s too much I will just see if my welding buddy can fix me up a ramp system instead, like yours.
@spencermorris3762 I had a local welder fabricator build my ramp for me. I looked online at Wow Ramps and super lawn trucks, but I'd still have to have someone install it for me. After looking at that price total, it was better just to have it built locally. I showed my guy what I was looking for along with CZcams videos on ramps. He came up with a similar ramp for $2,800, and that includes paint install and lifetime warranty. Peace of mind knowing if something should break on it, he'll repair it free of charge. Won't get that from any online companies. Plus, I'm supporting another local business like mine, keeping money in my community and not out of state.
Serious question. What happens if your truck doesn’t start? I have 3 trucks and trailers to swap out if needed. Just curious.
Thanks for your question! I always like to have 2 of everything just incase one tool or truck is down I have a backup. If my boxtruck is down for some reason I have a backup truck and trailer that I can transfer my mower's and tools to it.

Thanks! It's a 8'x15' box truck. I like it so much better than the open trailer setup. The only con is fueling up. I have to unload all my mowers and cans at a pump and refuel them and then put them back on the truck. That's the only con, but that's very minimal. I still have my truck and trailer for backup just incase one is down.

U have any major repairs yet with the Ferris mowers? I have a Ferris with 600 hours also
The only major repair happened to my 2017 Z2. It was only like a month or 2 out of warranty and 3 years old. My hydrogear blew out and the hydro oil leaked out onto a customers driveway. My dealer checked it out and gave me an estimate to repair it and it was over $2,000 to fix. I was upset and was ready to change brands. I started visiting other dealers and seeing what they had and demoed all of them. Nothing compared to my Ferris mowers. My dealer ended up calling me and saying that Ferris provided the parts for free and my dealer stepped up and provided the labor also for free. That is true manufacturer and dealer support! That made me want to buy from them again and I bought a new Z3x. I'm very happy with Ferris and my dealer. They have my back if needed and I'll be a customer for life because they take care of me. That's really the only main issue I've had with my Ferris. I have over 1200 hours on my z2 and close to 800 hours on my z3x.
What part of New York are you in? I need a welder to make me some custom ramps too. Just purchased a box truck.

What the weight capacity saw a sticker cargo 2,600 lbs thats not a lot??
I can haul my 61" z3x and 52" z2 and have enough room to put a z1 36" mower on if needed.
Why do solo operators need two Ferris mowers
Well I started out with the z2 52". Then I picked up a 5 plus acre property that took to long to mow with my 52". So I purchased the z3x 61" and it cut my mowing time down to 30-45 minutes less on that property. The other reason is it's always good to have 2 of everything because you never know when a mower may break down on you and I then have a backup mower to hop on and finish the job. You gotta be prepared for anything being solo.
How long is the box inside from front wall to the sliding back gate
16' L and 8' W inside the box.

@julian11able only if it's over 10,000lbs. This box truck is just under that weight requirement.
@@turningoveranewleaflawncar952 the exterior width can’t exceed 80” here in Texas either though. I’ll have to figure it out before I get one because I like the setup

I'll look through my pics and see what I can find for you. My boxtruck is currently in the body shop getting my rusty rocker panels replaced. If I get it back soon I may be able to get you some better pictures.

Love the setup - Higher insurance on the box truck. I know because I had one for my band, eventually got rid of the box truck and went with a nice enclosed. Saved lots of money on insurance. New subscriber - Check out my stuff if you get a chance!
