This video was a beast to edit. It took me awhile to get this one done. I'm not sure if I will keep doing turn by turn in this format? I like that it shows exactly the flow of the game. But, the video can drag on. What do you think?
King Me I'd try to script the deck to show more of the play variations in a shorter amount of time. It's good to throw in a nothing-much hand as that's part of SR but scripting/stacking the deck would allow for fewer turns which might be less strenuous in the editing process.
King Me Another option would be to show maybe 3-5 turns overall, but show them at different stages of the game. For example, in a 20 turn game, show turns 1, 5,10, 15, and 20. Or something along those lines.
I bought this game yesterday and this step by step video removed any point that haven't been clear enough after reading the rules immediately. Well done!
It was easy to follow but i can tell it was a lot of work.
It was fine. I lost my rulebook, and this helped a lot. thanks.
Tip: The ships main ability happens directly as you play them. Do not apply to bases though. Very important in some instances of the game. Great game! Thnx for the vid!
Good video - one thing I'd recommend is differentiate player one and two. Maybe when you're player two wear a hat or something. It is a little confusing to tell the two apart. Other than that I like the minimalistic style.
You should probably have mentioned when you purchase cards, they go into your discard pile.
THANK YOU!!
I've been trying to figure that out.
What happens to the discard pile?
@@Stuckathomemom When your Library of cards to draw from is exhausted, you shuffle the discard pile and that becomes your new library of cards.
Really well done, excellent speed, learning the game is a breeze like this. I really like your comments. Your one of the best explainers around for boardgames. Hope you will continue this.
Very well done on how to play. Bought this recently and for some reason it seemed harder than it is
.Probably because the rules are very badly written.
@@simoneisinger7924 that's kinda true, they had to add a gameplay section in the rulebook
Late to the game but this was brilliant. I read the instruction booklet but seeing it played out was great. Two thumbs up.
Thanks for this video! This was extremely helpful. What an excellent game for 15 bucks. Keep up the good work. Liked and subscribed.
What a professional result! Great video, I know it must have been a lot of work, but wow man, you can be proud.
Great tutorial! I was confused a bit by the instructions Manuel but your vid helped me understand. Thanks!
Nice job on the video. A friend recommended this game and I watched your video just to get familiar with play before it arrived. Thanks!
Just a point of clarity to make it easier for people to follow. Whenever you purchase a ship/base from Trade Row, it immediately goes into your discard pile. Additionally, any cards you don’t use during your turn are discarded as well.
Great vid! Needed some extra understanding of some rules and this was perfect.
Great explanation. This video got me understanding and playing the game.
Thanx. I got this the other day.
It feels like a cross.between the Legendary games and magic the gathering.
It's a lot of fun and really easy to pick up play.. Particularly as a game is really quick.
Great video! Thank you very much for the clear explanation!
Really clear instructions. Thanks!
Great explanation! Thanks for the upload
Very nice new opening. I've digging your games videos. Keep up the good work!
Mario Flores Thanks. I decided to tone down the earlier version.
+King Me can u do a turn by turn or unboxing on the two new expantions for star realms, there is a foil pack full of 10 new cards to the game and a whole new box full of loads new cards and mechanics.
Excellent tutorial, thanks for the upload
Great video mate, thanks for your effort.
Awesome video. Thanks for making this.
My favorite 2-player game! Hope you'll also feature expansions too.
Great explanation and graphics
thanks mate ive played a game with my dad :)
Great video. While watching I was already thinking "what an amount of work went into this". How did you do that practically, switching between each players setup. Did you stop recording and then did a completely new setup of did you have two tables to record? :-)
Did you miss the draw a card from the base allied action at around 14:00, or is that an "or" action?
Thank you so much for this!
Hi I just bought this game and I was wondering when you wanna play card from your hand do you get to choose which card to play or you just randomly play them without looking at them?I saw that you just randomly picked them but I wasn't sure
I would recommend finding someone to play against for a demo. Nice though
Is it true you may scrap cards at any time during your turn? I know you mentioned this but some cards also give you the ability of scrapping cards. Sounds like that's normally not allowed, only when you have a card in play that gives you the ability to scrap another card.
Thanks, still very useful :)
Great video, thank you! Have you ever played the Frontier version? Is it just the same cards but with added challenges? I just got Frontier and Colony Wars and am worried that I have duplicates of the same game.
Frontiers is a stand alone game with a completely different set of cards.
You can combine with another original Star Realms deck or Frontiers deck to play with 3 or 4 players.
I played a 4 player Hydra game last night (2 teams) and it was awesome.
Can you attack bases after destroying the outpost in the same turn? Or do you have to destroy an outpost first and then in the next turn are allowed to destroy the base? I find I have all my outposts and bases destroyed in the same turn and I can never use the base abilities when it's my turn again
@ 13:27 You use the Cutter's Ally ability to do 4 damage, but you do not use your Central Office's Ally ability to "Draw a Card". Is that a strategy? If so you should mention it. And if not, you should mention why you cannot use that ability as well.
I was actually looking forward to seeing how the "Draw a Card" ability is used, as I feel the rulebook does not properly describe it. It instead mentions an ability called "Acquire a Card". Since there are is no such ability, we can assume it is a typo, but then it also mentions that it consists of "taking a card without paying its cost" and so we can assume that if we draw a card that usually has a cost, that is from the trade row, or the trade pile. But then when looking online, people seem to think that it is from the player's deck. If so, why the whole cost thing?
+Kim Hutchison Him not drawing was a mistake. He should have done it first so he might have more attack/gold to use. There are cards with "acquire a card". I want to say it's the blob carrier in the base set.
on turn 1 I'd have bought trade bot because then that'd have opened up the trade row and then you can also scrap cards and get to the brain world which would be a real advantage to later game play against the enemy's
brilliant
Can a card use ally ability and double ally ability in a single turn if requirements are met or just one?
Thanks!
@9:15 you say you don't have to destroy the Outposts to make a direct attack to authority hp, but the manual says, 'Bases with the Outpost designation protect you and your Bases. If you have an Outpost in play, you may not be attacked or targeted by an opponent until all of your Outposts are destroyed.' and 'If your opponent controls any Bases with the Outpost designation, these must be destroyed before you can attack/target your opponent's non-outpost bases or attack your opponent directly'.
Can you clear this up, friend?
Did he ever clear this up? I'm trying to learn this game too!
@@pixxelwizzard That's pretty much from the manual. You must attack outposts first, but you have the choice in whether you want to attack Authority directly or the bases, if there are any or split the damage any way.
I have one question: if you attack an enemy's base that has 6 authority points but you only deal 5 points of damage, does it has one authority point reamining? or you have to deal the whole damage (6 points) in the same turn in order to destroy it? Thanks!
Haitin' Time i was told it heals at the end of turn so destroy it in one turn or try again next turn.
The app won't let you attack the base unless you've got enough to kill it.
It either heals after each turn, or you just can't attack until you have enough to kill it, I just know that the app won't let you attack them unless you can take it out that turn, so I'm assuming that there's no purpose to attacking it but not taking it out
Wear a red hoodie as player 2
i love me some stealth needles
Nice explanation but why did you edit out the shuffling part? It wouldn't make the video that much longer but on other hand it would give a more genuine feel of the game. There's no shame in having to shuffle cards.
Why do you pick up an explorer card at 2:45?
can someone explain how to use Merc Cruiser?
so you always play your whole hand?
Sorry but this video is near useless for a new comer... Speech delivery is too fast. It's hard to see from what pile you are picking up your cards. Rules are not fully (and slowly) explained. I gave up watching midway. Maybe the targeted audiance is already familiar with deckbuilding and I am mistaken therefore ignore my comment.
You can't battle outpost until out post and base on destroy on the same turn
you cut out the shuffle and didn't mention everything, you could have showed the first time you shuffled to not confuse people.
Where do you put the cards you trade for?
discard pile
Did I miss the setup instructions?
What do you do with the cards you use?
He picks them up, but switches to the next player before we see what he does with the point card & attack cards he just used.
Do you need to play your whole hand?
Pat Craig The rulebook (you can find it at www.starrealms.com) isn't clear about that but, judging by the android app, yes. In the android game you have to play your whole hand. But I don't see any reason why you shouldn't
Peter Bonnema You don't have to paly all cards. There is a rule that tells you to "put any cards left in your hand into your discard pile".
***** Oh right. In that case the app is wrong. Thanks for the info.
If your base says draw a card you draw a card... Why you no do so?
Combat Jaipur
Your can't target base or outpost the same
Miss you, butt.
You lost me almost immediately, why does player 1 only draw 3 cards and player 2 draws 5?
Because otherwise Player 1 would have too much of an advantage. This evens it out.
UwU
you could of had better strats.
Thanks!
