      It’s not secret at all. Everyone knows about the MDP.
      This video is a little misleading. They spend most of their time doing mundane patrols and guarding gates or patrolling fences etc.
      It’s very far removed from traditional policing it seems.

      It's all proportional, northern Ireland has had a much high violence level, for obvious reasons, especially towards police. Even in the UK there's armed police in areas with more of a chance for violent crime. Go to London in the tourist areas, there's loads of armed officers. So it's silly tbh when people say English police aren't armed.

      Hence, if you do find someone who got nabbed by them, you would go looking for them in normal police stations not wherever they took them.
      Also, if they're involved in something but don't look like police but are still armed, someone else might actually call the normal police to the scene and that might escalate pretty badly.

    They is another mysterious police force also armed with assault rifles the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, sometimes called Nuclear Police,who guard nuclear power stations too.The main non Home Office police are the MOD police,the Civil Nuclear and British Transport.There are also various others like Mersey Tunnel, Hampstead Heath,Dock Police,etc..

    Prior to joining the army in 1972, I tried out for the Atomic Police. The MOD Police guarded certain MOD facilities, but I thought both were different.
    I had dealings with the MODP, who carried only side arms, then, before we took over the role for a few hours or days.
    BAOR lads also had the not so good privilege of guarding certain special sites in Germany.

      Aldermaston, where they make the bombs, switched from the Atomic Energy Authority to MOD in about 73, so when you applied it will have had AEA Constabulary, what is now CNC, who now only do civil nuclear sites.

    I was in London and Southampton in 2018 and I saw most police in London were better equipped and armed than the units I served in on active duty US Army. I don't think I saw a single officer who WASN'T obviously armed. That said, I had no idea civilian law enforcement was tasked with protection of nukes in any way

      That's weird tbh, no normal policeman carries a firearm very few even carry tasers. That said London is a hotspot for crime and the capital so their might a higher concentration of armed police. Dunno about Southampton

      Furthermore it's very rare for someone in the UK to carry a gun especially in petty Street crime. So there is a lot lower use case of firearms.

    The concensus in Scotland and England is that you get good, exciting training and kit. But has one of the highest transfer rates due to boredom. But have to fully apply to Home Office forces as a new entrant as they don't accept transfers from MOD

      @Scout & About No no they're saying that you can't transfer from MoD Police, British Transport Police, or Civil Nuclear Constabulary directly into frontline Home Office (Normal) Police forces. Whereas if you worked for an HO Police force like Cheshire you could generally transfer straight to Manchester Police without reapplying or retraining.

      @@gunsnrosesforever100 Look I'm not the biggest fan of police here but that's total rubbish from no name. The majority of our police do not carry firearms simply because the overwhelming majority of the population do not have firearms. The majority of firearms that do exist are heavily regulated and licensed. Studies in the UK have shown that the UK population (generally) feels more unsafe when seeing officers with firearms. Rather, we have specially trained units to deal with firearm incidents when they rarely occur. Our standard police are trained incredibly well in de-escalation techniques that don't require guns.

      @@Rob-rd4em tbh I've met a few people from the UK and I've always asked them why the cops don't have guns and everyone always replied with " they don't need them ". I actually think it's really cool that you guys don't give every officer a gun, I think it's smart to train in de- escalation rather then use a gun for de-escalation.

      And? it isn't exactly good training if you don't do everything in exactly the same way you would in a real event. For all you know the guns being used for training were replicas and all scenes I saw here with fingers on triggers were training to search and clear an area... where you would keep your finger on the trigger. The guns being used for fire exercises were converted to blank firers as can be seen by the yellow tips on the rifles.

      @@imunknown9392 most training around the world advises to keep fingers off the trigger until ready to fire. Riding the trigger could result in an accident if the weilder were to fall of panic. Not surprised seeing that in this video however Brit’s are generally pretty poor when it comes to firearms.

      well when American police deal with places like Chicago, Detroit, New York City, Clevland, Newark, Camden, and so many other dangerous places where criminals have easy acess to guns, the police need ways to protect themselves and the public. If a criminal has a handgun, I want police officers to have rifles.

      UK military bases are guarded by the Military Provost Guard Service (MPGS), Royal Air Force Police (RAFP) or Royal Navy Police (RNP) depending on which service operates at that base. These are not civilian police or MOD police but are regular service men and women.

    Only reason they are Police is to carry firearms, they’re basically glorified security guards but UK laws are so jurassic that only police, military and certain parts of government can carry firearms. No private companies. Mod plod mostly stand outside a gate, sit in a kiosk drinking tea or asleep in a patrol car. Hence the high volume of transfers out. UK (the nanny state) is very different to foreign police forces.

    When they said, the only difference between a normal police and an MDP is that they carry firearms. That sounded really weird for me until, I realized its the UK. in the US almost all police officers carry fire arms.

      @@SnakePliskin762 In my country it’s a militia actually (luckily i did not stay that much in the army) but still, we are talking about around of equipment at most!
      (4 for the primary, 0,5 for the secondary, lets say 1,5 for the batteries/magazines/taser and around 3 for the light kevlar vest) that’s around 9kg, 10 pushing.
      It’s their job to stay fit and 10kg of equipment is really easy to carry when you get used to it.

      Their not spehical forces in the army, their just a spechialist unit of the police for the MOD. The most striking thing they acompany is nukes but even then they are with the royal marines. (You can't actully use said nuke for the record without the sub)

    I actually seen these lads on way home between Rochdale and Heywood once unless is was other armed type of police, was kinda odd as got stuck in traffic and just to my right was one of there cars and a officer at the boot loading and checking his rifle and putting extra magazines in his pockets XD somethings defiantly went down that night

      @Yeshua Is Lord go and look at the way special force units clear rooms (SAS included) , their finger is ALWAYS straight and outside the trigger guard until the very moment they are firing at a confirmed target. These officers are either poorly trained or have forgotten the fundamentals. If you are seen with your finger on the trigger in a IPSC competition at any time other than engaging your target, you will be disqualified. The behaviour demonstrated by these officers is a negligent discharge waiting to happen.

      I always look for the crest/logo of the police force. When you're in your local area it should be fairly recognisable.
      Sadly you get wanabe jumped up security guards and civilian k9 patrols that try to make their vehicles look as much like police as possible, even using the blue and yellow Battenberg decal just with the tiniest change in brightness.

      @@billmclachlanamateurwriter idk about that the UK isn’t as big or as diverse as the US so not every department is trained the same. Some have employ good tactics some don’t. Not every city has the same demographics of population or social economics. So I feel like saying the UK has more of something (in this case training) is honestly subjective until proven objective. Plus many factors play into the training of police units in the states again due the its diverse nature of people, income status and overall general satisfaction of living in a certain metropolitan, city, town, parish or community.

      Not necessarily, it means you have a target in sight and are ready to fire if need be, but are still waiting for the bad guy to do something that would warrant opening fire. Readiness on the trigger means they can open fire in a fraction of a second, before the threat can let off a round.

    I convinced whoever came up with the shoot one bullet then reasses has never shot anyone before. There have been people who were shot multiple times to vital organs and have continued fighting for minutes afterwards. Shooting one bullet and having the person immedialty drop to the ground is simply not going to happen everytime.

    I really don‘t want to be that guy, but I have to: Finger on the trigger when moving? Having one officer stand between the taser and the subject? Closing in the distance with the taser? Holding the rifle on the magwell?
    All that fancy gear will be useless if that‘s their level of training.

      The magwell grip isn't that bad for non-conventional handling, worse has been done by better. Closing with a taser would make sense if a lethal was also readied.
      The rest of your points are proof that, while the British train more, they don't train better.

      I didn't notice that the first time I watched it, but yeah, that's a super sketchy way to carry a firearm. Even a small unexpected bump could cause a negligent discharge. I was wondering if this was just a British thing, so I went and looked at some videos of Royal Marines doing CQB, and nope, they all index, so these guys just aren't up to the standards of most professional combat arms folks.
      The giant GoPro on the front of the weapon didn't inspire a lot of confidence either.
