  • Welcome to Gliding #023, a celebration of beautiful Australian landscapes. The film was shot entirely on a DJI Mavic 3 Pro. Best wishes and I hope you enjoy watching.
    Scenes:
Scene 1 - Dawn At Kurraba Point, Sydney, New South Wales
Soundtrack: ‘Piano On The Shore’ by Arlidar
One of the areas on Sydney Harbour where the 1st Nations name has been retained, the name "Karraba" or "Kurraba" is thought to mean Hungry Bay or Shell Cove.
Post European settlement the Point was included in the 700 acre land grant that was given to Lieutenant Alfred Thrupp as a wedding gift. At that time the area, which included most of what is now Neutral Bay and Kurraba Point, was called "Alfred Thrupp’s Farm" or "Thrupp's Acres".
It wasn't until 2010 that the area was formally given its own name.
Scene 2 - Rodd Island, Sydney
Soundtrack: ‘Unbound’ by All This Was Fields
A 6,700-square-metre island on the Parramatta River in Sydney, Australia, Rodd Island lies in the centre of Iron Cove, between the suburbs of Drummoyne, Russell Lea, Rodd Point, Haberfield, Lilyfield and Leichhardt. It is located west of the Sydney Harbour upstream and the Harbour Bridge.
Named after Brent Clements Rodd, who had a long association with the island and the local area. The island was used as a laboratory by scientists working for the Pasteur Institute, who were researching the use of the chicken cholera microbe to control Australia's rabbit population. During the Second World War, from 1944, the island was used as a training base for the US Army. After the war, it became a recreation area and has remained this way until today.
Scene 3 - Busselton Jetty, Western Australia
    Soundtrack: ‘Coming Home’ by Oshtein
The longest timber-piled jetty (pier) in the Southern Hemisphere at 1,841 metres (6,040 ft) long, Busselton Jetty was opened in 1865. Extended numerous times until the 1960s, serviced commercial vessels and since this ceased in 1971 the pier has become a major regional tourist attraction.
The jetty features a rail line along its length, a relic of the railway line into Busselton from Bunbury. The line now carries tourists along the jetty to an underwater observatory, one of only six natural aquariums in the world.
Scene 4 -Early Morning Waves, Shelly Beach, Sydney
    Soundtrack: ‘Behind’ by Mykola Lemeshko
A short sequence to enjoy a small swell in the early morning sun ay Shelly Beach on Sydney's Northern Beaches.
Scene 5 - Sirius Cove, Sydney
Soundtrack: ‘The Most Beautiful Bride’ by Jonathan Carlile
One of the only access points to the water on the Mosman side of Sydney Harbour, Sirius Bay is a small and sheltered corner of Port Jackson. It has a sandy beach and shaded grassed areas and offers good harbour views. Due to its sheltered position from the swell that can surge in through Sydey Heads, Sirius Cove normally has low wave to calm conditions which makes it an ideal spot for families.
