It's funny that you used characters from "Cabin In The Woods" as examples of your character list. Because that movie Purposely created all those types of characters to format the cliche horror movie. Cabin In The Woods was Pure Genius now that I think about it.

I think Jim Hopper is a great twist on the Authority Figure. When I first saw him on Stranger Things, smoking and drinking and seemingly reluctant to do his job, I just thought he'd get in the way but he's one of the hardest working and valuable characters.

What pisses me off is when the protagonists get the upper hand on the killer, and instead of bashing his/her head in or chopping off his/her leg, they run away. The killer always ends up catching them and killing them. Oh and if you ever watch Wrong Turn 4, you will be so outraged by one of the decisions they make in that film.

It's funny that you were pointing out the authority figures while showing the authority figures from A New Beginning when describing them as victims as none of them from that movie were officially attacked by Roy, the only encounter we see is when Roy asked the sheriff if he was talking to him, on another note, sometimes the black guy is the only survivor, like House On Haunted Hill remake (even though Jenna/Sara also survived, but she was officially killed in the sequel, which makes Eddie the only survivor of the first one)

And then there’s me, the white person who’d run or turn anything into a weapon.
I tried playing along (made a list of victim types) before this started and got 7 right. A couple others I had:
The bystander (not a main character, usually comes in to help characters and is killed quickly, only adds to the kill count)
The child/pet (gets audience sympathy, often gets in the way and puts main character at risk, might die to motivate main character)
Honestly if I'm going to die by the hands of a murderer I'd rather be high when i die, because at least my last moments were spent in bliss.

I knew the Black Guy trope would be here, but ironically, several of the characters they showed for that entry actually survived: LL Cool J didn't die in Halloween H20, and the black guy from Nightmare on Elm Street 3 survived too (although he did get killed in the next installment).
Plus, Ken Foree from Dawn of the Dead (1978) was originally supposed to die by suicide (I believe the other survivor was going to die too), but they eventually changed it, giving the film a much more enjoyable ending, as well as creating yet another classic horror movie trope: the "guy who almost kills himself but decides to use his last bullet to shoot another zombie and push forward to the end" trope!

Interesting that they used a clip of LL Cool J for the black guy since he survives both Halloween H20 (the clip they use) and Deep Blue Sea.
You also show the Nightmare 3 clip of Kincaid, who survives that film, rather than Nightmare 4, in which he is the first victim.

The "Non-Believer" archetype has actually been around since the "Wizard of Oz", and that was a family-oriented film. Scarecrow mentions something about spooks and Tinman dismisses it as nonsense as a non-believer. After admitting to NOT believing in spooks to the Cowardly Lion, Tinman got lifted into the air by unseen forces and then dropped, prompting Cowardly Lion to repeatedly say "I do believe in spooks!" to avoid meeting the same fate.

The scene from the pic in the thumbnail for this video is from New Nightmare, gave me sleepless nights when I was a kid. First horror movie I ever watched when I was about five or six years old. 23 years on and i've just realised that film was actually a stroke of genius from Wes Craven.

I'm sorry but black people dying first in horror movies is a false statistic and not actually that common. a research done proved that most horror films with black people have the black character dying later on in the movie with some surviving. That trope only exists because people love to bring race into everything. Of the films you played for that category NONE of them died first and half of them survived. If you truly believe " the black guy always dies first " name me 5 horror movies youve seen ( not googled ) where the black guy dies first.
