I spent 3 glorious weeks in Berlin in July 2022. My first visit to Europe from Australia. My picks were The Blue Man Group, DDR museum, cycling around Friedrichshagen, Kopenik and joining a party boat on The Spree, the Holocaust Memorial, and days of walking along easily navigable flat streets, and stopping to sample incredible vegan foods and many delicious glasses of Aperolspritz on the hot July evenings. I am planning on returning in July 2023: there was no way to see even a fraction of Berlin’s best in only 3 weeks!

    • @BrokenCurtain
      @BrokenCurtain Před rokem

@@Russell9241 Unfortunately, the low price of 9 Euros was not sustainable, so the successor will cost 49 Euros per month. And I am not sure if that will also cover your bike.
Still, if you want to extend your range and explore regions like the Spreewald (via the "Gurkenradweg") or the area around Potsdam and Spandau, it's extremely cheap. Just keep in mind that it won't be usable for long-distance connections served by the ICE and most IC trains. But you'll still be able to board any RE train and just use successive ones, if needed - so you could board a train to Schwerin, for example, arrive after about two hours and explore the place and it surroundings, spend one night in a hotel and continue your journey the following day, maybe to Rostock or Hamburg.

What draws anyone to Berlin is truly an enigma.
BER Airport is very bad despite that it is new (long lines at check in and security because despite that the staff is professional the space is too limited on the landside and too spacious at the airside which means lots of walking to gates with no trolleys or escalators!).
The food is arguably the worst in Germany unless you are a beuracrat or politician on a 5 digit monthly salary (in Euros) and can afford the high end restaurants which are notoriously expensive (maybe because they cater for the demographic I mentioned above and which is never short of money).
The food in many restaurants is not only mediocre but hygiene is noticeably lacking (probably because of very relaxed (sub) standards of control of kitchen cleanliness etc.
This is a stark contrast to other large cities in Germany where cleanliness and hygiene is usually top notch thanks to strict hygiene rules and surprise visits by the authorities to check the kitchens of restaurants which rarely happens in Berlin.
Berlin is HUGE despite that it has only 4.5 million residents.
Its territory is 300% - 450% larger than Munich, Hamburg, Köln etc. but the population is less than double each of these cities so it is basically a large village with few cctv in its parks and suburbs and that can present another major problem (crime).

4.5 million is the amount of people on average on any given day because Berlin recieves 18 million tourists (both domestic and foreign tourists who typically stay 4 days), tens of thousands of university students who are not permanent residents of the city and tens of thousands of migrants who arrived in Germany in the past decade but are in Berlin in a long transit before they head to other cities (especially true for Turks, Kurds, Syrians and Afghans because of the sheer concentration of these nationalities in the city).
The permanent resident population of the city is 3.75 - 3.9 million.

The only attraction is the Clubs and nightlife culture.. otherwise the city itself is ugly and people in Berlin are not that friendly.. you would not notice this if you come for a visit, you have to live in Berlin to experience it

Don't forget that the video is 1.5 years old. Tourism in Berlin has grown since then.

Why do I want to meet German friends? This may be my ideal partner image
Firstly, the diligence of Germans is well-known. They believe that work is a responsibility and honor, so their attitude towards work is very serious. Germans will not easily give up their responsibilities, nor will they easily give up their goals. Their work attitude has earned them a high international reputation and made them one of the strongest economies in the world.
Secondly, the organized rationality of the Germans is also admirable. They attach great importance to planning and organization, and like to allocate time very clearly. They have a famous word 'Ordnung muss sein', which means' there must be order '. This organized rationality is not only reflected in personal life, but also in the entire society. Germany's transportation, public services, and government agencies are all very orderly.
Furthermore, the seriousness and rigor of Germans are also important characteristics of their personality. They pay great attention to details and believe that every small matter is very important. They will spend a lot of time and effort to ensure that their work reaches the best level. This serious and rigorous attitude has made Germans very successful in various fields, whether it is science, technology, or culture.
In short, the personality traits of Germans are one of the important factors for their success. Their diligent, organized, serious, and rigorous attitude has earned them a high reputation in the world. These characteristics are also the core of German culture and have become the pride of the German people. This is the reason why I want to make friends in Germany. My name is Lee, 35 years old, single, and I come from Hong Kong. I live in a traditional family, engaged in finance, taxation, and cross-border e-commerce business. I believe in fate. If you are interested in me

@@claudiustacitus6620 I find Berlin to be much more fun than all of them except London. Berlin is about partying and having open-minded experiences and being in a non-judgemental atmosphere. It is for young people at its core, with a diverse and lively art scene. It is ugly, but full of life

@@torink8229 I think you were not in the right corners in the said cities, as far as nightlife is concerned, the cities have nicer things to offer. Of course, if you only like darkened party rooms, with pills & drugs & alcohol you may have a different feeling.
Berlin is a visit will in all respects but with the cities mentioned not to compare and just ugly to it.
