    I have an early 61 that I got as a gift. It got damaged and I sent it to Parker for repairs. They replaced the black barrel with a flight er barrel, the cap still has a crack at the base. Recently the chrome arrow pointer at the tip got lost but the pen still writes well. I bought another one in a set new in the 70’s but my eldest daughter latched on to it…..hope she is still enjoying it. Thanks for the history lesson. You put out very informative videos.

    Hi Doug.
    Last Sunday I watched your video just after it was published. Four days later I am the proud owner of a Parker 61 Heirloom Bela Vista turquoise pen made here in the UK.
    What a beautiful pen it is and works and writes well.
    Thank you for your videos showcasing so many wonderful and at times not so wonderful pens. They always bring a smile on my face with your sense of humour. 😀

    My first fountain pen was a Hero clone of the Parker 51. It was a gift, and my friend included a bottle of Hero blue ink. From the first stroke, I was hooked on fountain pens. Perhaps because of that, my dream pen for many years was a vintage Parker 51. I love the Parker 51. Its graceful and innovative design I find thoroughly lovely and the Parker 51s write wonderfully. But when I got my first Parker 61 I was further smitten. I cleaned it, inked it with blue Quink, and it wrote smoothly from the first touch to paper. Fountain pens are wonderful, and so many have unique and delightful qualities, but I think that my favorite of all is the Parker 61. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this video. Thank you!

    I won my first ‘61’ in 1962 as the grand prize drawing at Sauerburg drug store in Western Springs IL. I was 9 yrs. old and, as a 9 yr. old, made a complete mess of things. Hence put in drawer after cleaning. Resurrected it a few years ago, had Danny Fudge tweak it (great job & service) and it writes beautifully! Bought a couple more from England on eBay recently - pristine shape. They all write and feel wonderful. For material things, they bring a measure of joy.

  • @davidnygard1817
    @davidnygard1817 Před rokem +1

    The Parker 61 is actually my favorite writing fountain pen. The look, balance and feel along with the consistent flow are just a joy. There are only four brand/models where I have several (more than five) pens in my collection, the Parker 61, Jinhao 159, Jinhao x159 and the Jinhao 80. With the Parker 61, I have learned how to repair cracks almost invisibly (a P61 flaw) and how to disassemble and reassemble a complex pen. Because the Parker 61 is so unloved in the market, I have been able to find three that have never been inked (pink capillary holes). This is the best bargain pen of the fountain pen vintage market. I intend to make the most of this market flaw.

    Videos about restoring old fountain pens are certainly less popular because, I believe, access to these pens is random. My only source of vintage pens is eBay and this is possibly the most expensive and risky form of obtaining these items. That said, I find this series quite interesting and I thank you for it.
    I've notice, with envy, that Parker 61 in your previous videos. And it doesn't disappoint. Congratulation for that great find. It cannot be in a better caring hands that yours.

    I love your reaction to people who do ridiculous criticism. One of the problems with social media is that everyone is anonymous except the person presenting. I bet if their mothers saw what some of these people were doing, it would be a 'go to your room and leave your laptop here' or in my mothers case, a quick flick on the back of the head for being a rude idiot. Thanks, Doug, for another Sunday highlight.
    Two points about the "61". The inlaid arrow usually falls off, which makes them cheaper; and the later models were C/C fillers. All in all. a bargain for a first-rate pen. Can't wait to see what comes next.
    As for your 'critics'? For heaven's sake, it's a show about fountain pens, not propaganda for World War III! Take a chill pill and shut up if you have nothing constructive to say.

    I only have a couple of vintage pens. I was gifted a Parker 61--it was the first vintage pen that sent me scurrying to find out everything I possibly could about it. I took it apart (before I learned I shouldn't) and can only imagine the look on my face when I saw the capillary cell: I honestly had no clue whatsoever. I credit this pen with tweaking my interest in the technical/mechanical aspect of fountain pens. I am still abysmally ignorant but working on it. Thanks for the information, very much appreciated and I truly appreciate the add ons: I don't bother to note physical size etcetera but I have noted the stars gazing in wonder at their self filling pens.

    Years ago I found a NOS first year 61 with the shield on the beautiful rainbow cap. The end of the capillary filler was still pink, meaning it had never been dipped. I couldn't bear to ink it up, so I sold it at our annual Michigan Pen Show to a collector from Toronto. He immediately inked it up and threw the original case away, claiming that it would be easier to get through Canadian customs that way.

    I think the 61 is one of the more attractive "modern" Parker pens out there, but that hooded nib and capillary filler just makes it something I've no real interest in. Both characteristics are big negatives to me. If I was wealthy and just indulging my urge to collect classic fountain pens, it would of course make the list, but I don't see me using it as a daily driver. I have a classic black Parker 51 aerometric filler for just that reason. I'm not in love with it, but I thought "I can't call myself a fountain pen collector if I don't own a Parker 51!" I'd really like to find a Parker 50 Falcon with the integrated nib.
    Please excuse me. I'm rambling. Lovely review of an excellent pen if it appeals to one. Thanks for the lesson!
