कबीर ji का जन्म 14वीं-15वीं शताब्दी में काशी (न वाराणसी) में हुआ था। एक मान्यता के अनुसार उनका अवतरण सन 1398 (संवत 1455), में ज्येष्ठ मास की पूर्णिमा को ब्रह्ममूहर्त के समय लहरतारा तालाब में कमल पर हुआ था।
