  • The Choir of Trinity College Cambridge and Stephen Layton join the congregation to sing the hymn 'Lo! He comes with clouds descending' at the Advent Carol Service in Trinity College Chapel on Sunday 27th November 2022. The arrangement and descants are by former Trinity Organ Scholar Max Pappenheim.

      Same. It's my third favorite hymn. Has the Church been given a greater hymnist than Charles Wesley? I am doubtful.

    Beautiful hymn! Thomas Olivers did an amazing job setting Charles Wesley's words in absolutely divine music! Of course, that it is presented as the close of this Advent Carol service with pipe organ accompanying a full choir and congregation makes it all the more amazing.

    What a glorious, splendid sound!! The words tell the story ever so well, if taken in through the heart. The setting of those words merges the soul with the hope we share in that second coming. "With what rapture!"

    First heard this hymn at the annual service, provided by Calvin College forces, in LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church, Grand Rapids, Michigan A large church, filled with people who know how to sing, a great organ, student choirs. I cal it a gate of heaven experience

    A few years ago I bought one of my favourite CDs. Trinity College with Double descants…..but good grief what a sound on this version. Choir and organ turned up to 11 !
