@@kramler Eh, I understand why, its really hard to get something with that much displacement and only one cylinder moving at high RPMs unless its built really well and has some kind of balancing mech, which makes it sound more like an old motorcycle rather than a 2000cc monster mobile.

Top speed run starting at 1:37 is misleading: tach is showing 11,500 rpm. The first gen MT-03, which uses the XTZ660 engine, has a redline of perhaps 7,500 rpm.
Hence, video coverage from 1:37 - 1:54 is NOT of a single.
The old model Yamaha MT-03, the Yamaha XT 660 Z Tenere, and the Jawa Vintage 660 featuring in this video all have the same 660 ccm Motori Minarelli engine. However Motori Minarelli is own by Yamaha Group. This very engine is also used in the Yamaha XT 660, the Aprilia Pegaso Trial/Strada/Factory. This engine has proven to be extremely tough and reliable by the way.
I wonder if that motor is a variant of what was in the Yamaha Raptor 660 sport quad. They were damn near bullet proof.

NSU... Beautiful machines, the mopeds, the motorcycels, the cars... Amazing quality! What a shame we never got to hear the bison run!

Earlier mt03 was single cylinder, but the mt03 in your video is later model and clearly has 2 exhaust headers coming from twin parallel cylinders

Single cylinder, 4 valve head...... one headpipe for each valve....not at all unusual or rare on bigger engines. Honda dirtbikes of the 80's had dual pipes on singles as small as 250cc.

Back in the 70s Maico made a one cylinder air cooled 2 stroke 760cc dirt bike.

This MT 03 has twin cylinder bro....u can see two bent pipes....and u can determine by its sound
First 3 motorcycles got same engine....Where is Maico, Zabel - both 700cc 2 stroke...where is Husqvarna 701 ? (same as KTM 690, ok, but..still.)

Half there bikes are twin cylinders, just because it has only one Muffler doesn't make it a single cylinder

Gee, didn't see my favorite large-displacement single, the Suzuki LS 650. There are better camshafts and big-bore kits for 'em now, if you search hard.
hd a savage loved it but was a heart ache to work on
Once I got rid of the OEM air cleaner and the vacuum carb, mine was about as simple as it gets. Earlier Japanese bikes all insisted on running the damn air cleaner at the end of a large plastic plenum of some type or other; and they all benefit from a simple K&N air filter. (Check carb jetting if doing that!)

My friend had one of those Yamaha 660 4strokes that he called a Thumper.
He let me take it for a ride. I didn't want to beat it down in front of him so I was just cracking the throttle not fanning the clutch. I was amazed at how much low end torque it had and how it took all the travel out of the suspension at low RPM!
When I got off he told me that I was lifting the front wheel off the ground about 8inches! Unbelievable low end torque.

yeah single cylinders have tons of torque. 450cc motocross bikes are pretty insane. If you go full throttle on low gear the bike will wheelie over :D

If I'm not mistaken that's the Yamaha predator and grizzly engine which is single cylinder air cooled but I could've sworn they was all 5 valves which I know is an odd valve number but the advertising always said 5 valve I thought
