I entered the film industry not even knowing how a C-stand works. I was lucky enough to jump straight to operating a camera for jobs. Till today, I'm still scared when I'm working with clients/agencies/directors/crew simply because I'm just a guy who happens to know how to use a camera but didn't go to film school, have zero theoretical knowledge about lighting and learnt his stuff from CZcams. It scares me that these people are going to see through me and look down on me from then on. It's good to know that I'm not alone in this fight. Thanks for sharing, Danny!
Haha none of us know what c-stands are when we start! Thanks so much man!
That’s what up bro you gave me some hope !
I think this is just a general realization that every 25 year old goes through, not just in filmmaking. You finally realize that no one knows what the hell they're doing lol
Omg yess😹 I studied photography and graduated but lately I started feeling less and less creative, started comparing myself with everyone (first time that ever happened), feeling like I had NO clue of where I was going and thinking that everyone knows better. Funny thing is that whenever I get the chance to work with someone I look up to, they are just as nervous and insecure as me or even more hahaha it's just that not everyone talks about it. Anyway, I've taken a break from social media and I know some day I'll go back to creating more content. Just not now and that is FINE
I remember reading about it quite a while back, and I never assumed I was alone, but I felt like some people had it figured out. I was probably somewhere around 25-30 thinking about it. But yeah, now I'm a father of two and I still feel like that from time to time. I'm sure my dad does too. We're all just trying to figure out our way.
@@Workbenchtv yeah i agree with that. I think it hits everybody at every age at least once in a while no matter how well they may be doing
@@MoncoField Agreed. It's usually when you're out of your comfort zone.
My 'Oh Sh#% Moment' was hearing Roger Deakins talk about his anxiety every time he walks on set to this day. Keep crushing it dude, loving the content your putting out. I really appreciate the authenticity. 🤘🏻
For sure dude! Thanks so much Christian
You're a legend for putting this on, the world needs more of this honesty. Less Instagram "look at how perfect I am" "Influencers", and more people talking about real stuff about the human condition. ✌
Absolutely Jonny! Thank you man!
I am on the same opinion! ;) Personally, trying to focus on content where I encourage others by sharing my thoughts and feelings and very happy to see that there are more out there, and I hope this number will rather increase! :)
very well said!
I think people often mistake being great with using equipment as being a filmmaker. That's being a technician, not being a filmmaker. I believe that anyone who tells a story with visuals is a filmmaker, even if the quality isn't great, it's telling a great story with visual language. And yes in order to get a proper job or to do freelancing you need to be able to be a technician as well, so those two go well together in that case, but being _only_ a technician doesn't make one a filmmaker, and you can definitely be a filmmaker without being a technician.
of course thank you!
"scare you back into a comfortable place"... powerful.
Thanks so much Sam. Glad it resonated with you man!
Was literally just talking about this to my friend last night. Such an important message... Love you Danny :)
haha my guy! Love you too brotha!
I had exactly the same thought last week. Haha. I even changed my bio on Instagram.
Haha I’ve been there dude! Thanks for watching
me too, changed my youtube name almost 10 times
Hahaha...
Me too 😂
This was me just yesterday haha ...cinematographer (maybe?)
I was in the middle of filming a massive series where I documented my process of trying to get out the middle, and after I posted the second video, the first one blew up (for a channel my size). Honestly, it f'ed me up, and I haven't made one since. And then literally today I received a new XT4 for my company and I knew I needed to film a third episode, and the reality of imposter syndrome hit me. so freaking hard. I literally edit photos and videos for a living, yet when it comes to my own work I have felt suffocated. It is really really helpful to know someone else, especially someone as phenomenal as you, experiences what I'm feeling. Thank you for your vulnerability and honesty, this has really helped me.
For sure man! Thank you for sharing!
where can I watch those videos? do you mean the videos of the Project: BMF ?
"we are all..me, you..all of us..we're all just making it up.."
Dude I really needed this this morning. I'm mostly a photographer but trying to break in to video. I just woke up feeling terrible about all my work lately and how I've been struggling to continue to produce things I'm proud of, this really helped me change my mindset today and get back on the right track. I really appreciate your videos. I've been lurking for awhile but finally dropping the sub haha.
haha glad you finally committed brotha. Thanks so much!
So happy you shared this!
In exactly the same boat. I am always waiting for someone to 'catch me out' on shoots 😂
hahah its too real bro. Thanks so much for coming through man!
I swear you can read my mind sometimes. Every insecurity or fear I have in regards to work, you seem to come out with a video that tells me what I need to hear! - I loved your sketch at the beginning by the way. I have that conversation with myself in my head all the time. Watching it made me feel anxious haha! - Super great video yet again dude!
Haha dude I knew you'd like this one. Thanks my brotha!!!
@@DannyGevirtz Proof that you do read my mind then! Orrrr that you just know that I'm going to like anything you make. Haha!
This is literally the same thoughts that be going through my head every time
Haha I feel you man. Thanks!
Dude! Your composition of each shot in the opening sequence, how you chose to Close Off each character with the negative space behind each character. Showing tension within the exchange shows me instantly that "YOU ARE A FILMMAKER"! You obviously studied film, and the sheer fact that you created an entertaining way to introduce this subject is exactly why filmmakers do what the do... They have something, and idea, a subject that they just have to share with the world. Great Video! Thanks for posting!
So glad you noticed that too, it felt very “Mr. Robot” definitely an interesting choice for t conversation because it was so one sided and felt like an interrogation.
Yo thanks so much man! Haha glad someone noticed it!
It is one of the best composition choices in order to show tension and opposition. Its that whole, Open to the World vs. Closed to the World.
Danny, you ARE a filmmaker. One of the best I know. Your storytelling and how you deliver a feeling is insane, for real! So inspiring bro. Every time I watch one of your videos, I am so motivated to create something I can be proud of. I just want to actually start! Thanks for your amazing content :D
Love, Leo
Thank you so much for the amazing comment Leo!
I just absolutely love how the light is slowly fading from the ARTIST GUY in the beginning.
Glad you noticed! Thanks so much!
Danny, you just become my unanimous favorite creator with this one! I love your stories, insights, and your encouragement towards your audience. Sincerely, thank you.
That makes me so happy brotha. Thank you!
I’ve began feeling this feeling within music about 4 months ago and it’s been getting worse to the point I’ve been wanting to quit. Thank you so much for this message.
Absolutely thanks man!!
Hey, after i saw your comment, i listened to your music. You are sooo talented - From Germany
YEAH BROTHER DONT QUIT .. KEEP GOING !!
@@user-pd5sz4yh9h Thank you so so much!!!
@@AnimeBadBoi Appreciate you!🙏🏽🔥
Man..I cannot tell you how inspiring you truly are to so many people. Your humility, your manners, and your genuine smile, I can't tell you how much it means to us. Thank you.
Thanks so much man!
My favorite CZcamsr! the opening scene of you talking to yourself, being so dark and gritty really resonated with me. You are always so real in your videos and it takes a lot of guts to dig that deep and be honest with it. keep doing you! you have definitely inspired me to just go out and try :) thank you Danny!
Thank you so much Mark! I appreciate you!
I'm 24, picket up my phone to stat shooting 2 years ago, picked up a camera 1 year ago. by 26 I want to be creating videos like you man!
Keep doing what youre doing brotha!
So happy that I’ve found your channel! I’ve been into film-making since I was a little one but it took me going back into my past to remember that person again. Here I am 27 years later, freaking out! Starting from scratch trying to water my brain with all the knowledge and creatives I need to show up for myself again in film 🦋 thank you
i literally come back to this video like 3 times a week because it’s so good. thank you Danny for being so authentic!
I had this thought the other day when I was editing my next video to post...but it's advice like this that makes me love the YT community!! Thanks again Danny!!
David! Absolutely brotha. Thank you!
This really comes in an interesting moment of our lives (at least mine). I'm an aspiring cinematographer who calls himselfs a filmmaker sometimes and is learning color grading on the go. Your words definitely resonates in my head. Every moment I feel this I tell myself: "you are trying it, you are still learning, be humble, be nice and you can make it someday".
Beautiful video Danny. Greetings from Argentina.
Thanks so much Lucas!!
Dude your content is insane. This is a really thoughtful video that really encapsulates what a lot of young filmmakers go through and something I’ve struggled with heavily. I guess it just nice to know that we all feel it. I’ve noticed a consistent trend in your videos and that’s authenticity. All your videos are relatable and highly informative. This is honestly the best filmmaking channel on CZcams.
Thank you for making this video and for your support. I feel deeply like this, especially now that so many things change for me all at once and I feel overwhelmed. It applies to any endeavour, video making is one
We love your content brother! Keep being you! You're inspiring more people then you know
Thank you so much my brotha!
This couldn’t be more accurate, I feel like if you think you know it all, that’s when you go wrong. We can only plan so much, the rest is all imagination and creativity. It’s a lovely dance between collaboration and instinctive reactions.
For sure Daryl! Thank you man!
Danny you’re so honest and real. I’m hyped that you’re putting your thoughts on here.
I totally get that whole “I learned everything I know from CZcams” thing. It’s like weird these days how you can just teach yourself everything these days.
And yeah dude, it’s sweet how we’re all clueless, and we’re all so anxious of all our projects.
Keep crushing it Danny I love your work!!
Thank you for your sweet and kind words. Its so rare to find the kind of honesty and empathy you simply wear on your skin. We love you too Danny!
Man I may say this is the greatest messages I’ve heard in a while..Danny it’s funny as a creator we witness the same behaviors when we idle and the alone and how the minds just wonders bro.. the best remedy is to go with the flow, have some bookmarks on most shots and don’t hesitate to ask your crew for assistance on things they believe you know how to do.. I tell ya honesty is the best policy..as you see the great Roger Deakins transparency gave you fuel for this episode.. great job man. If any one agrees where the thumbs up so I can see where you are👍🏾😁 👍🏾
Lovely comment man! Thank you so much for this.
ahhh nice to read from someone else to advise on "go with the flow" :) As you said, that is the best remedy and that is my "mission" to try to live accordingly therefore inspiring others ^.^ Made my day ☺
Portfolio is more important than “studies” or “degrees”. If you have work to backup your statements there’s nothing else needed to be said
I agree!
Amen. Building mine on youtube too!
What a great way to start a Monday. You're constantly covering topics that people want to talk about but don't. Really glad I found your channel. Thank you!
I’m glad
You found it too man! Thank you!!!
I have learned to lean into my anxiety in large film collaborations. More than often than not I have found these creative sets become think tanks. Repetition is the greatest teacher and transparency opens doors. Thanks for sharing your story
OMG Dude I have been watching the first minute now and i really have to smile because I had the exact same thoughts about myself and I will also do marketing haha :D Realtalk, you are my favourite CZcamsr right now :D
Haha amazing man! Thank you so much
Litterally just had an hour pure stress thinking i was going to fail on a shoot i have tomorrow. An who the f I am to do a reel commercial. And now i see this.. life is strange hahahhaha. Love you're honest videos dude!
I feel you man Thanks so much!!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm feeling that way fr the past few days. I feel so much better and confident to do what I have in mind
Love this! 💕💕thank you
I really LOVE this Danny! 🤗💙 I also have started without film school, everything I know is from CZcams and learning from my mistakes. I do not even have budget for proper gear, only using what I can, which is an old Nikon with 2 basic lenses; and I am trying to create some meaningful content to inspire others. Literally, I also have released a new vid talking out loud my feelings and questions in mind that make me feel uncertain about filmmaking. But as Made by Kap mentioned in the comment section, the best remedy is to Go With The Flow and embrace life, be brave and be ourselves ^.^
Absolutely man! Thank you a ton!
I think we feel that, mostly, when we are growing. The better we get and the bigger projects we will work on, bigger will be the pressure on us, from us and from others haha. For example Roger Deakins..imagine the unbelievable pressure the man has to deal with. His whole team and the whole world are expecting a masterpiece every time. And he hits it every time!! haha
haha for sure man. Thank you!
Ohhh mann!!!!
I literally smiled throughout those words when i started to listen to you.
I feel that everyday.
I started my channel a month back and still i feel like i don't know what i am doing.
Thanks for making this video.
I am going to listen to this whenever i feel like i am a no one.
Thankyou💯
Dude it is scary how right on you are. I can relate to this 💯 I'm constantly battling that voice that keeps holding me back. This video helped me so much. Thank you for putting this out there.
Hang on, you’re 26? I think I’ve grown more in my imposter syndrome learning that detail 😂 I’m a 31YO dad of two full time In filmmaking and seriously considering getting in the CZcams and course creating game. For you to make our favorite YT content at 26 gets me down a little bit - Ha. But ALSO not really - I have *nothing to complain about in my world. What you’re saying in this video is something I’m already aware of, but to hear your take was entertaining and helpful. Keep on keeping on! Sorry for the roller coaster comment, ha
haha last time i checked i was still 26. Lol thanks so much brotha!
I am a 24 year old father of 2 working a normal full time job building a film business on the side. In the last 2 weeks I have been in touch with quite a few businesses but can only work with 1 a week. Hoping CZcams will help my brand awareness too
im not first
In my heart you are

I always watch this whenever I have a shoot coming in to get rid a little of anxiety I'm dealing with. Thanks danny 🙂
Danny Literally love your channel. Love the raw moments you share and your continual growth on youtube.
Thanks so much Dan!
Dude. This. I feel the relief in my soul that I didn’t know I needed. Thanks for putting your authentic voice out there.
For sure dude thanks!
Thanks for your honesty, dude! What you said is the very same reason I kinda gave up filmmaking for a while after college-and I even went to film school!
I’m starting back up though, trying to relearn old stuff and learn new stuff. Just trying to create and deal with the fear of whatever when it rears it’s ugly head.
Your channel is inspiring, encouraging, and entertaining. Keep it up!
This is awesome. Thank you. I’m 21 and have wanted to be a filmmaker since I was 12 years old; I’ve strayed off of the path to becoming one so many times though that sometimes I feel like, “What am I doing? This isn’t for me.” This video is so raw and real; more people need this kind of thing. This helps me so much.
I was legit watching my videos on CZcams and started to feel down. Then I started scrolling on my home page and ran into this video, out of luck! This definitely helped me and I really appreciate it. Thank you.
One day, I’m going to meet you! And when I do, I’m going to look you in the eyes and tell you how much you’ve helped me! Not just the How To’s but the mental aspect of all of this! You speak to insecurities and your transparency is refreshing and so needed! Once again, thank you for this!
how did I miss this video? It's like the universe just brought it to my feed . I just had a meeting like 2 hours ago with a professional colourist/DP that left me feeling disappointed with my 3 years experience as a DP and honestly your video has cheered me up so much. Thank you
The beginning was absolutely phenomenal. This was the first video I saw from you and I couldn't be happier. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Glad you found it!
Thank you for putting this out! Some sets, and a year at film school later, I still have these thoughts, because you could know everything you need to and yet there is going to be that one little detail that is going to make you feel like you know nothing.
Knowing that other people feel it too, is always such a relief and a good place to then start learning all over again. Thanks!
Of course thank you so much!
You got it exactly. Words by words. I can say I'm at ease right now. Thank you for this wonderful video, Danny!
dont give up man! i know how it feels... I gave a lot of effort on my quarantine short film and didn't get discovered! but the point is, hard work always pays off! just keep doing what you love, success will come in your hand soon!
For sure man thank you so much!
Hey Danny really needed to hear this. I just started a videography internship at my school and I literally have learned everything from youtube and feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. I shot my first basketball game last night and I was so nervous for it. Watching this video made me realize everyone starts somewhere and that I just need to keep going and realize that there is just learning opportunities for me in this experience. Thanks for sharing this, I love your channel!!
I love your videos man. Like a legit filmmaker who really understands the business and the struggles. The inner struggles are real.
i think your my new favorite filmaker/youtuber. your so inspiring. thank you. ily
the last part of this video was like super inspiring, as was the whole of it, but like i really appreciate you dude. you inspire me!
Man this is exactly the video I needed to see today. Been feeling like I'm not good enough to keep up with everyone lately. Favorite channel on CZcams man, keep it up!
I feel you man! Thanks so much dude! Means the world!
This was incredible, such a needed and true message. I have fought with this my entire career. It has kept me from really pursuing a youtube channel which is something I've wanted and talked about doing for years. It is also something that probably sabotages me from sharing ideas, or experimenting on set because of the fear of failure. It can be toxic, and it does appear to be ubiquitous in all creators that I know too. You put this so candidly man. I really appreciate this message.
Thanks so much man!
This made me feel so much better about what I'm doing. Yes I will keep shlogging it out. Much love Danny.
Bro this is gold! Your content is genuine and that in itself is worth sharing! Thanks for the empowerment!
Absolutely man thank you!!
Love this video second time rewatching and it really hit home this time
I am sitting here, at 3am in tears... Danny you truly touched my heart.. the opening dialog was on point, it's like you translated what my demons tell me every single day.
I often work in toxic environments on set, and i have a habit of being overly honest if I don't know how to do something, and it crushes me how sometimes I feel like everyone is looking down on me thinking "How the hell did this idiot get on this set". I was terrified directing my latest short, i locked myself in the bathroom and was shaking head to to toe and then i went into the shoot and poured my heart into it. I guess it's our passion and drive and this constant feeling that we're not doing enough to ever be as great as our idols. Thank you for this, I've subscribed to your channel, i am so happy i stumbled upon this video, it's the best video I've seen this year. You're defiantly doing something right
Danny, I love your energy and positivity you put into your videos! Keep it up!
Thanks so much Brad!
I needed this sooooo bad! I love this page and I GREATLY appreciate your work!
Thank you so much George!
This helps a lot actually. I get that same feelings driving up to every single job... I'm glad I'm not the only one. But I also know for a fact that once we get there and the ball starts rolling we are totally in our element. Thanks for sharing!
I feel you man! Thanks so much!
Your vulnerability and love are valuable Danny. Thank you 🙏🏽
As a beginner in this industry, an aspiring filmmaker, this made me smile! It’s that feeling when you think you know a lot but there’s so much people who knows more than you. They may have more experiences but one thing I thought about is to just focus on what you want to do, don’t compare, keep learning and keep creating. Hopefully I’ll be doing this as a full time job asap! Anyways, it’s always great to hear that someone else feels the same way as you do.
amazing thanks so much Miguel!
Exactly the same feeling. That’s part of the fun if we push past the worry and doubt!
Thanks so much Jacob!
Thank you for posting his. Means a lot.
Honesty. Vulnerability. Courage. These are the great assets of an artist. Thank you!
of course thanks Terry!
You are so good man. I'm 22, been filming stuff since I was a kid, which means I've watched a lot of filmmaking youtube videos, and I mean a LOT. For me to say that you are one of the best youtube channels out there is huge. Please, I know you are going to get far in this youtube game, but whatever you do, do not change your personality even if you get to a million subscribers and you become famous and all that. You are the most transparent, raw and sincere filmmaker I've seen, and to put this content out there and open yourself like this is amazing, in a world where everyone is just pretending to be the most successful filmmaker. Keep doing what you do, and keep being honest about it, because trust me, with your talent in cinematography (because I've seen your stuff and it looks awesome) and your personality, you are gonna get so so far!! Well done man.
Man thank you so much! Haha i dont think we need to worry about us getting to a million subscribers but I got you brotha!
You are a filmmaker !!! you create and you inspire. I went to film school and I honestly learned more outside of film school. keep doing what you are doing

You have no idea how inspirational your words are to me. I am getting my bachelor's in film production and I feel like I have no one there with me. I feel so alone and like an outcast sometimes but I am so glad I found your videos man. You have really helped so much with my anxiety when it comes to making films. Thank you for being so awesome and inspirational.
of course man! Thanks so much!

And this is why I subscribed. Thank you for being so transparent.
I entered the film industry last august. I graduated as an aerospace engineer but I didn't feel satisfied with I do. I was lucky enough to get hired by my current boss even though all my "film knowledge" was based off of youtube. It's been almost a year since then and I have learnt so much from them. I know I still have much more to learn and sometimes I do feel like I don't belong around these creative people. I learnt to cope with this by accepting this feeling and that it is normal. It does not make you less of a person becasue yes, everyone feels the same way.
I love every bit of this video, thank you for being so open and honest.
thanks so much!
Thank you, man. These thoughts haunted me for months. This video really put things in perspective for me. Upon watching many of your videos.. I've become a big fan. Thank you
Thanks a lot. I often was anxious and insecure about what I'm doing and also had similar thoughts about Filmmaking. I'm relieved that I am not the only one who thinks like that.😁🙏
for sure! Thanks Justin!
Oh wow. I had no clue how much I needed to hear this. Thank you so much for sharing, this was so beautiful.
ay just seeing this my brotha! Appreciate you a ton!!!
I've been going through with this since I started getting into filmmaking. I hope to overcome my insecurities one day and make a movie/film of my own soon! Thank you very much for sharing this, very inspirational.
Oh my god! I needed thid sooo much right now. I just landed my first wedding in 4 months and I am currently going back and forth between panick and self doubt / imposter syndrom every minute.
Thanks so much for your awesome content!
Keep it up!!!!
Good luck Tim and thank you!!
Thank you Danny, you have some of the most real and helpful content I've ever seen. This is so true for me, hearing that makes me feel so much better. I constantly feel like I'm not good enough to be putting my work on the internet, I'm so happy to know I'm not alone. You make beautiful films and your voice here is much appreciated ❤️
James! Thanks for the lovely comment! Much appreciated man!
I love you man! This was a great video and I love how inspiring you are.
Well that really hit home. I always get scared I'm messing everything up when I shoot something then when I edit I realize its not as bad as I thought. This was really helpful advice to hear!
Of course thanks so much man!!
I have those thoughts so often! Yeah, I feel ya! After a long whole day wedding shoot I often feel like the whole day was waste of time. But then next day when I’ll start to check the material and edit I see that there is always good stuff. That’s the moment when the feeling disappears again...
Appreciate that Lauri! Thank you!
Dude I love how open you are here because I think every filmmaker at some point asks themselves these same questions and has the same doubts. I had an internship at Sundance film festival in college, and it felt like the whole time I was comparing myself to the other interns about whether I was as much of a filmmaker as they are because they seemed to know more than me. Within those next few years, I had made handful of other films for festivals and learned A LOT. Through that process I realized that I didn't need to already be making the big production, big budget films to call myself a filmmaker. Pursuing storytelling and continuing to learn along the way made me a filmmaker.
Absolutely brotha! I appreciate you man!!
Love your videos! I always get value out of them on a totally different level. They really inspire and motivate me to be more creative! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. It's encouraging.
That makes me so happy Anja! Thanks so much!
