- Roosevelt Raceway conducted it's first race on September 2, 1940 and it's last race on June 15, 1988. This CZcams video consisting of a 100 pictures is a tribute to the drivers who raced at Roosevelt Raceway and made it the World Capitol of Harness Racing.
The photos are set to the music of the Trade Martin Production's song "Roosevelt Raceway Where It All Began" and video presentation was produced by the Harness Racing Alumni.
thanks for the nice walk down memory lane...grew up in Levittown and spend many a fun night there...sad to see its gone now... the times they are a changing...
Boy did that bring back memories . I worked with the horses for 17 years . Many of those drove the horses I took care of
A few others were Jacques Dupuis. Sandy Levy and Russell Rash.
Walter case, Mike Gagliadi
Like seeing old friends again. Thank you for preserving a lifetime of memories.
Memories, beautifully done…..
Never knew much about harness racing until they knocked down the batting cages and pitch & putt on route 3 and built the Meadowlands, from that point forward I fell in love with it ! Remember seeing Rambling Willie and Sonsam and so many great horses but was sad I never got to go to Roosevelt Raceway but many other tracks of the northeast from Yonkers to Bass Park and so many more !!
My Dad came home from the Meadowlands the night Tarport Hap died and appeared shaken.
wow the good old days....
Great stuff Freddy
Must have been nice to go on a Saturday night in the summer time.
That was very nice!!
Nice work Freddie.....!!!
Your partner is a DEAD BEAT who does not pay his bills…
very nice
Taking a young horse across the street to the track was sometimes an adventure. I do remember.
Sholty let me ride in a sulky when my Dad stopped by to say hi.
My dad should have been in there. Sal Traina. 😎
Loooooosh!
Carmine from the 8 hole sometimes paid huge.
TO THINK YOU WILL NEVER SEE CROWDS LIKE THAT EVER AGAIN.YONKERS LUCKY IF THEY GET 25 people during the week.
Didn’t see Jimmy Marohn.
No pictures of my father Sam Smith he raced there for many years
A driver once told me he made more money losing races than he did winning.
yup, as crooked as our government sadly... was sure a fun night out though..
The amount of talent and “ fixed” races in that bunch….. We need a computer to add all that up.
But talent, tons and tons.
Herve would have had 25,000 plus winners if he didn’t stiff so many.
Oh well, it is what it is.When you had mob involved, you do what you are told.
The sad truth in those days, especially in NY and NJ at that time.
Waiting for some donk to comment how wrong i am…. Lol
Not wrong
I'd like to see this done for Lebanon raceway
Why?
Don’t forget Larry rolla
Not one pic of Jim Marhon.
If you really want a picture of Jim Mahron, go to any police station and they can show you a mugshot.
