    Omega is a watchmaker, not a clothier. I haven't been to the Omega factory, but I seriously doubt there is a guy at a sewing machine making those straps next to a guy assembling watch movements.

      Decisions aren’t always this easy, but often times spending money only gets you a smaller balance and that’s it. There’s no sense in spending for a logo when you don’t have to.

    Interesting video as I'm having exactly this dilemma. I have a Casino Royale Planet Ocean that has gone through 3 OEM rubber straps. At over £200 a time I'm fed up of it. I recently put a Bond NATO strap on my beater Citizen and found it to be very comfortable. I've come to a similar conclusion to yourself, I have a very valuable watch, it needs to be on an OEM strap to maintain that value . The Omeg NATO will be cheaper and more robust than the rubber straps and, as a Bond fan, possibly more fashionable at the moment.

    Buying an Omega NATO strap is like buying an Omega watch. You can get cheaper homage watches that do the same thing as a $4,000 Omega watch, but there’s nothing wrong with paying a premium for the original product and/or the brand.

    Nicely done video, I wish I had the skill and patience! So £220 now for one of those NATO style straps. Worth it? Not in a million years. There are lots of choices for NATO straps these days, perhaps more than when this video was made, so look around and get a few options. Half the fun is changing the look of your watch by changing out the strap. I’m about to get a Speedy FOIS which comes on a nice brown leather strap but I have already picked up a bracelet and a black croc strap on a deployment to give me three looks. I plan to try it on a Connery NATO too! Addendum. I found a preowned Omega Bond for £80. A far more acceptable price!

      Nowhere near the thousands it costs to buy one - the same for Rolex et al. Lovely watches, but not worth the money.
      In the 60's, anybody with a decent paying full time job - who saved and worked hard could buy a Rolex Submariner within say - 6 - 12 months. These days it would take a whole lot more saving, going without and maybe the sale of a kidney for the average working man to buy a standard Submariner without going into debt.
      I'll stick to my old Seiko's ☺️ easy to service and potentially far more accurate than their specs would suggest (-2/+3).

    • @dasmesser1
      @dasmesser1 Před 4 lety +3

      Making it should be reasonably cheap, since their watches are machine made. So once you have done the R&D and have the machines they should be hundreds of dollars each.
      BUT you also have to pay the retailers, the marketing department (including celebrity ambassadors), you have to do the previously mentioned R&D and buy the machines, you have to pay taxes on everything, pay for transporting the watches around the world, pay your legal department because you are always involved in legal shenanigans, pay the developers of the website, etc.
      So yeah, producing an Omega watch is relatively cheap, but the necessary processes surrounding said production are not.

    Love the video man. I've had the opportunity to see and feel an omega nato strap in person and it compares basically 1:1 to the artem nato straps, even down to the buckle and positioning of the hardware. And considering the artem nato straps are north of $60, they aren't even the best feeling/most pliable nato straps in that price bracket. I've felt much better seatbelt style nato straps from watchgecko which are just north of $30 USD normally. Just putting my thoughts out there.

    You're having trouble with the excess strap because you're folding it incorrectly. Instead of tucking it underneath, you tuck it over into the second floating buckle. 99% of watch people don't bother with genuine NATO's as the price is a rip off so I wouldn't judge a generic strap as meaning the watch could be fake.

  • @buzzsaw6497
    @buzzsaw6497 Před 7 lety

    While it's true that the pinned buckle represents a point of failure, the strap isn't likely to come completely off your wrist if that happens. If a spring-bar fails, the buckle isn't likely to fail concurrently. On an infinitely minute chance that both the spring-bar and buckle fail at the same time, the strap still isn't likely to fall off your wrist; you'd notice any failure at these areas before you lose the watch. And if the force is big enough to pull the watch completely off your wrist, then you're probably lucky the watch comes off your wrist rather than your entire arm coming off your shoulder.
    Great review, by the way!

That's all that matters right? Not sure what you think about your Omega watches, but mine is precious to me and having authentic strap completes the experience of wearing it. Nice video, however I'd just like to point out something. According to the instructions from Omega on how to wear their nato straps, you're supposed to wrap the excess strap outwards and then into the middle "floating" loop, instead of tucking it under the last loop like what people normally do with nato straps (also what you did in this video). The Omega video is here: czcams.com/video/gS92QnF2e4o/video.html.
    Once you put the excess strap into the middle loop, it would stop it from moving around like that.
    I guess that's why they made that middle loop "floating" and not fixed in position like other nato straps, because they anticipated that the excess strap could be longer or shorter for some people and so the middle loop would have to be adjustable to be able to be worn like that.

    Personally I would buy the metal bits from Omega and put them onto the after market strap. Omega are notorious for over charging for their straps/accessories. In my experience their quality doesn't match the price.

    Thats a great watch and all..but I'll just buy the divers watch from Casio on Amazon and throw a $10 NATO strap on there like the one you have. That works just as well for me. I would love an Omega but I can't afford that

    I had an OEM JLC reverso large duoface leather strap for 5 yrs and it rotted away like crazy so end up getting a $50 leather strap that looks identical for a $35000 watch and it worked great! Everytime I go n try on watches at boutiques the sales assistance would see the back of the strap and see that its not OEM JLC then fiddle with the duoface to check if its real lmao. But yea I had to get the Omega Nato for my Seamaster 300 for the love of Bond ;)

    In my opinion you're not securing the strap as it's designed to be used. The floating band you are moving about is to hold the overlapped excess of the strap. You're tucking the excess doubled into the first buckle which is not how the Nato strap is designed to work. Omega describe it in their own video - czcams.com/video/gS92QnF2e4o/video.html

    Oh the modern marketing miracle called branding: somebody paying 180 bucks for that small piece of synthetic fiber woven into a strap! Sure that makes you feel special!
    BTW should not really compare it with a $11 product, do not even think about it: only the cheap people do that so it makes you a suspect!

  • @KRW628
    @KRW628 Před 7 lety +9

    the Zuludiver Swiss Bond NATO also has a "floating" keeper. It's a great strap... and it costs $31. So it comes down to... the COST of the Omega. A NATO watch strap isn't WORTH $180.00. None of them. It costs that much, because is says "Omega". Even the Panerai Bond NATO is only $35.

    • @vincentvangogh4174
      @vincentvangogh4174 Před 7 lety +1

      Agree that material and work to make it can't cost that. But they know that if you can afford a watch for $5000+ then you will be able to pay $180 for Omega strap.

      Vincent Van Gogh I'd like to know where those extortionate straps are manufactured, likely in some "3rd World" country, paying pennies to the workers and the final product costing a few dollars to make.. However, perhaps they are so expensive because they are not..

    Matt, I agree with you. I purchased a $10 Amazon nato, but it just didn’t do my omega justice. After purchasing the authentic omega nato, it’s hands down the right move.
    No doubt it’s a premium, but I did feel like I was cheapening the craftsmanship of Omega. Thanks for the video!

      @danielwallis-banbury8102 Před 7 lety +12

      Even as someone who is mad about Omega watches I couldn't justify spending £180 on a piece of fabric! If it came on the watch, fine, but there are NATO straps out there with the exact same design which are no doubt just as comfortable and robust that cost over £150 less. With an Omega watch you're paying for the craftsmanship and the materials; with the strap, plain and simple, you're just buying a logo.

    • @nonenone3898
      @nonenone3898 Před 7 lety +1

      Na its a cool NATO and on an Omega watch? only an Omega strap will do, if you cant afford one no worries sell the Omega and get a casio then you will have cash left over.

    • @SuperShecky
      @SuperShecky Před 6 lety +6

      At the level of Omega, you're in the realm of status-signifying man baubles, not wrist watches. $180 for the strap just goes to complete the bragging rights. The $11 (or less!) strap is for the guy who has nothing to prove.
