ANC is simply pushing the DA away, which is good for the country as MK&EFF will join after.
No one got an outright majority, but 40.2% is near enough than 21.8%. It’s not as if ANC has no other viable options. DA jumped in first abandoning their still birth moonshot agreement claiming it wants to avoid the coalition of doom of ANC with EFF & MK. If DA over plays their hand they might well be pushing ANC towards the very thing they claim they are trying to avoid.

They know that they can't tell Cyril with ministries they want, the appointment of ministers is the prerogative of the president. I'm all for the GNU, but what is the DA smoking? Proportional allocation of positions probably makes sense and it is objective, but parties shouldn't be allowed to choose which portfolios they want because parties will choose all strategic portfolios, just like the DA is doing.

I read it as a negotiating gambit on the part of Zille ...ask for 100 but be ready to accept 40. For example DIRCO they would probably accept Naledi being re-appointed, but they will probably fight for Minerals & Energy (Gwede) and Trade (Patel of SACP), given the importance to the economy. Ministers are political appointees and DG's are public servants appointed in terms of the public service act

The electorate gave this government a clear mandate. Representation in cabinet should be proportional to the vote. Cabinet should ultimately be made up of 3 parties. ANC, DA, IFP. NO ONE ELSE HAS ENOUGH OF THE VOTE TO DEMAND A POSITION. Anything else would be undermining the people's will.
