2016 Hyundai Tucson rear door fix. Doors wouldn't open, 10 minutes later they work again.

  • My Mom's 2016 Hyundai Tucson rear doors would not open. She asked if I could take a look at it so she wouldn't get charged a fortune at the dealership. I feel like this is a really easy fix that should be covered under a recall, but until then, don't pay to get it fixed. It can be fixed in under 10 minutes per door.

    Thank you! You are a gentleman and a scholar. This occurred on me a day after using it with no problems and I was afraid I'd have to make a trip to my Hyundai dealer. I followed your instructions, shaved the handle with a dremel cutting wheel for plastics, and fixed the latch.
    I hypothesize that with time and usage, that cable gets loose enough to where this occurs. Combining improper manufacturing tolerances and it becomes a wide spread issue.

Also the part you need to trim is just plastic. I found a dremel to be the perfect tool. Seems you only need remove about 1/8 inch. Bravo for a fantastic video!

Thank You so much - took about 25 minutes to do both doors and save just over £1000 in garage fees.

    Thank you for this video, it helped me find the cable but it appears the cable has broken. At this point would it be best I take it to a mechanic, a body shop, or a Hyundai dealership?

      I’d try the dealership first, because they did finally issue a recall on this issue. See if they’ll cover it under the recall before going elsewhere.

    Thanks for the clear tutorial. Is it the same process for the front driver and passenger doors? Both of ours are having this problem.
    Crazy there wasn’t a recall like you said. This is dangerous in an emergency situation.

      I believe that there is now a recall, so check with a dealership first. The way to check if it’ll work on the front doors, is when you reach through the panel to pull on that cable, if it works by pulling it a bit further than the handle pulls it, then it should work by letting the handle pull further

    I have a 2017 Tuson. Same problem but the drivers rear door. Went to the Hyundai Dealer and they said it was covered under warranty. 30,500 miles.

    Hyundai's and Kia's have multiple door issues. I have a Kia Sportage. All 4 doors have had broken regulator gears. Fixed under warranty. I have had outside handles replaced on 2 of them under warranty. That involved 3 trips. First time they didn't color match it. Second time the outside button stop working after they painted it and the first idiot mechanic told me it was supposed to be like that. Third time was a charm as they found another mechanic to fix it. By outside button I mean keyless entry. It detects your fob and allows you to press a button on the outside handle to unlock.
    I haven't had this issue yet. Mine is a 17 and finally ran out of warranty from age not mileage. This is a tip. If your drivers window auto down works fine but up goes a few inches and back down an inch on auto believe it or not it's the window motor. I could hold the button and it would manual up but I figured it's days were numbered. There are 2 different motors. One is auto down only and the other is auto up and auto down. Match the one you have. I just replaced mine. I am guessing it's the module on the motor and not actually the motor. One thing I will say these have the easiest door panels I have ever removed and I have removed more than most people being an automotive locksmith. They are aware of all the door issues on these POS at least my dealer is.

    Thank you, thank you, and THANK YOU! What a piece of garbage this vehicle is. This video just saved me a trip to the dealer and some criminal amount of money to fix something that should be a recall

    Joe, thanks for responding so quickly. Do you believe if I were to change out this part that it would solve my problem?

    • @josephlombardo830
      @josephlombardo830  Před 11 měsíci

      No, I believe that the cable stretched which is why I cut the plastic so the handle can pull the cable a little bit further. I believe that if you cut the plastic, it would only be a temporary fix because the cable will continue to stretch. Hyundai did offer an extended warranty on the door, so check with a service center to see if you qualify for free repair. I’m not sure which part they are replacing, but that would be the part to order if they won’t do it for free

    Thank you for the video. My wife’s 16 Tucson is doing this, however the child lock is on. Will this prevent the ability open the door from the inside with a screw driver?

    Hi Joe, just for clarification is this fix for when the doors won't open from the inside and the outside or just from the inside?

    • @shanawilson7863
      @shanawilson7863 Před 8 měsíci

      Looks like from both inside and out because he had to use a small screw driver to open it from the inside.
