I am planning on picking up a Morakniv bushcraft for my all-purpose knife. So many glowing testimonials for that company. As for a budget-friendly "one-tool option," I chose the Kershaw Camp 10. It's a versatile medium-sized chopper for under $40. Kind of a kurki-style knife with a really comfortable/grippy handle and high-carbon steel blade. Razor sharp out of the box. Many positive reviews. Affordable. Highly recommend.
I don't wish to burst anyone's bubble about knives, But let me say something about knives.
The survival knife is the one you have on you at the time you find your self in a survival situation. Most likely it wont be a belt knife unless your carrying a folding belt knife, which is legal just about every where. This knife was selected by you for its durability and blade strength and most important its ability to stay sharp. This is what your going to rely on!. All else is what you PLAN on taking with you for an outing into the wilderness. If you go down town toting a big Bowie knife on your belt, you can darn near for sure scare someone and the cops will be looking for you.
to carry a knife all the time is to have a need to be discreet!.
I went into a Tractor Supply store a while back and was standing next to a cowboy, wearing a Bowie knife, a revolver, arm guards, a well worn cowboy hat. And boots to match, he really did have a need for these items, his life depended on them. A discreet knife would be a small belt knife, nothing so imposing as to cause alarm a small folder or a straight knife would pass ok.
Survival is what you carry at all times. these are the items you carry with you where ever you go. You are not preparing for an unexpected tour of the wilderness. That why its called SURVIVAL!. Unless you carry a light backpack with the essentials for such an event, where would you carry extra food, a large knife, a light weight bed roll, camp fire starter stuff, an extra sweater etc......
Whats right for an author or a naturalist, a columnist my not be right for you. Before YOU finally settle on the perfect knife, you''ll probably have bought a half dozen of them. My wife has bought me a couple knives and I don't like any of them, except a small well made pocket knife, which would do fine for a survival knife in a pinch.
All that said , I very much like medium to large knives and carry a medium pocket knife.
In the Kukri line, I recommend looking into the hand made knives that come from Tora blades, Himalayan Imports and KHHI. KHHI made me a custom kukri and I am beyond happy with it.
I won't lie. I almost drooled when you showed the value know. beautiful. cool video, man!
Really neat options you have there. And a few I have never heard of before. Thanks for the review. Really cool blades!
excellent video thank you for the information
+jiujitsu2000 Glad to do it!
+Brendan Richards Solid knife - just didn't have enough time to cover all of the good ones out there.
+Brendan Richards I like the Strongarm from Gerber and also their new S30V Gator hunting knife. From Buck, I can't say a ton - haven't used a lot of their gear.
Great Video! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you thought about - Lammywalness Your Dream Guide (do a search on google)? It is a good one of a kind guide for discovering how to get a a FREE Edt multitool survival tool without the normal expense. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my old buddy Taylor at very last got astronomical success with it.
I did a video on bushcraft knives VS survival knifes
I'm curious about your opinion about my video
Nice! Two of my favorite things, Fixed blade without serrations and a sling shot!
I just received a knife from Schrade with the nylon sheath and I love it so much. Since I already was familiar with the Schrade brand and having seen this knife on their web site I ordered it and was really amazed when it arrived and I had the opportunity to use it. The knife have a full tang blade, and rubberized handle with grips which make it easy to hold. This is my first fixed blade Schrade knife, but not the only fixed blade knife as I own many others also.
That was a really good video / plus i really like the fast pace that you run through everything ( un-like some U-Tubers that are slower than molasses to complete 1 sentence ) subscription added !
Welcome aboard - thanks for the kind words.
i have to say the same. the video had a perfect pace to it and very knowledgeable explanation on each knife. Subscribed!
Thanks guys - welcome aboard and glad the video helped and was enjoyable.
Enjoyed the reviews! I liked you went through the list relatively quickly!! You gave just enough information for each!
Handful of years later, no one remembers most of the knives featured in this video. But as others in the comments section have pointed out, Kabar's line of Becker knives is still going strong to this day. Likely will be, for many years to come.
Ontario Rat still going strong for me
I just picked up Becker bk22, really love it a crowbar with an sharp edge
I plan on getting the Ontario rat 7 next
Ok great thanks for the reply looking forward to seeing the review.
ESEE 6 with pouch on sheath with fishing kit. all cordage on knife and fire steal is 550 fire cord.
Tim thanks for your reply, I'm sure your info will be very informative from what I've heard so far, Have a good one!!
What a great way to enjoy my morning coffee... Lol
Great vid Tim, there are sooo many options out there, thanks for sharing some with us. Do you have any of Jeff Freeman's knives?
I'm going to order several of these products. Thanks bro!
Great video and very helpful when I am shopping for new knives. Thanks for the breakdown on every knife and the specifics Tim.
I am good friends with John Luthy, the designer of the Papa Bear and he is one big guy, hence the big grip. He spent literally 20 minutes explaining the survival applications that went into the design of that knife, drawing from lots of personal experience in the USMC as well as an outdoors-man from Wisconsin. Good video, quick and to the point.
Very cool - great knife - really like that one a lot.
usmc vet here, would love to talk to him , can you send me a link to his channel by chance ?
A very good review on a whole variety of survival and bush craft knives.
Great video! Introduced me to a few knives I was not familiar with
Right to the point, no BS! Thank you. Definitely Subscribing!
Wow! Great video! Content, research and delivery perfect!
Condor is extremely underrated IMO.
Mora molds itself to any user IMO. It's like throwing a set of gel inserts in some uncomfortable boots.
I bought a condor kukri and the condor kephart excellent knives and for under 100 bucks for both you can't beat it
Undoubtedlly yes, but steel snobs with big wallets just dont care, another community ruined by elitism, in condor they worry about performance more than elitism, that why thei stuff is meant for rugged use, as seen by the argentinian whi work daily with their stuff.
Yesterday I came across a website TheLostWays5.blogspot.com that has all the survival methods that will helps you to survive
I heard condor has a big problem with rust
definitely going with the tops kukri. all essential carry in one.
Love them All!! All amasing! All beautyfull! Lucky you man! To have so many knives with you there bro! ☺
Have to love the blades from Justifier Knives! I have his Strong Neck knife and it is my favorite of all of my knives. Great look at a lot of other knives. Thanks for sharing.
Nice looking knives. I like my SOG. 5 years old and still has an edge that is razor sharp. My folding pocket knife is a Kershaw. I carry it everywhere. It to still has a great edge and feels good in my hand
Excellent video with great details about knives. Probably one of the best I have seen. Thanks
There are too many knife reviewers. I just watched another guy baton a log with a 6" knife JUST to have something to do for his video. There isn't 20 min worth of stuff to say about a metal thing thats been around since cave men. THIS dude just briefly ran through like 10 knives in 1 video and I saw about as much of each one as I needed to. HE appreciates your time. And now I know I want that SCAR Bear knife from the thumbnail... job done.
Straight forward, to the point, no B.S , laymans terms and Very informative for all who enjoy the great outdoors. Subscribed I am of this first video I have seen of yours.
Welcome aboard Steve. You've got my style down - I try to keep to the point and make it helpful so people can make wise choices in their purchases.
I really like your review. I do think you REALLY need to look at Survive! Knives I have the GSO 5.1 and love it!
I have that Rat 5. Great knife! I took my Dremmel tool and made grooves where my fingers lay. It fits incredibly better! Try it
I support Ontario knives. Cheap made in the USA and I live 20 minutes away. Thanks for giving them a shout out. If your local, you can walk in and get deep discounts right at the factory
Justifier Valor looks Awesome!!
What a great looking blade also ya got quite the collection. I own 5 blades and sometimes can't decide which one to take out, if I had all of those I would be stuck at home LOL or weighed down.
I love my Flint knapped Knife I made a year ago beautiful cutter and great tool not a real chopper but it's the sharpest thing you can get just like obsidian
Your presentation is AWESOME. Thank you!
Thanks Paul
Awesome review mate, short and to the point. Subscribed.
Thanks - and welcome aboard.
KaBar/Becker BK2
Buck 119 Special
Buck 620 Reaper
Swiss Army Knife
Those are my knives, and they do everything I need them to. I highly recommend them. Also, although you can get knives that are pretty much designed for batoning (like my BK2) using a hatchet is SO much easier and it does the job much better than any knife ever could. For that, I recommend the Fiskars hatchets.
For a little more money I would go with a wooden handle hatchet like the Husqvarna or Marbles
Mark...
Benchmade as it is hollow ground. Fantastic...
I have a Condor Hudson Bay that is a beast and I also use a Knives of Alaska Bush Camp knife when I travel. Good video if just a little fast. keep up the good work.
I normally avoid knife reviews as I love the few I have and don't have a reason to purchase anything at this time. However, this was an excellent review. For the manufacturers.... that are reading this... this guy is great. Not biased as far as I see it, and he spoke honestly about each knife. I now have a couple ideas for my next purchase, or at least recommendation.
Dave Agar thank you Dave.
If I walked into 1 store with all of these, I'd be paralyzed by indecision! Lol. I've recently gotten the Mora companion in black. Yes, I ground the spline to 90. Then I used a Verde salsa for a spot patina followed by the Apple cider vinegar. Wrapped the sheath in bank line. All of which I found from CZcamsrs. Such a wealth of info out there. The knives turned out great!
I'll just stick with my BK-9. It's never failed me after 20+ years of hard use. It's been my " go to" knife and why change a good thing? It's a beast of a knife and can do whatever I throw it's way.
short sweet and to the point thanx brother keep it up
Excellent video - no nonsense, all factual, fascinating range- well done!
Thanks Jonathan - appreciate your kind words.
I have a knives of Alaska bush camp and I love it!
Really glad I stumbled across your vlog. Thanks...
Thanks for checking it out.
great blades, thanks!
Another nice Condor is the Stratos; rather similar to the Garuda but with a Scandi-grind and hardwood scales.
Excellent channel! I love watching earth, discover and slow down...
Thank you - I appreciate it.
Hello Tim, thank you for sharing this fine video. Two thumbs up for the great presentation. Certainly a fine selection of good quality knives. Take care out there. 🤗
Thanks for checking it out.
love how the knives werent the average gerber/buck bullshit. keep up the good work. oh and by the way love the bear knives, reminds me of tom browns work
Hello Tim,some nice picks..I use condor, mora, Ontario, and schrade for my working blades, like the strongarm too..
Good choices - got a video on some more survival knives/bushcraft knives coming out in a week or so. Stay tuned!
My 5 favorite knifes :
5) Kukri
4) M9 bayonet
3) military ballistic knife
2)Chinese combat knife-Tanga
1) Microtech jagdkimmando
That last one is sick maaan
great choices .good work
Have you seen the new Mora Garberg which is coming out in the second quarter of this year? Every review I have seen of this knife has impressed me.
Great video. All great tools
Awesome stuff!
Great review!
the papa bear now that is a knife I would consider buying in the future.
What do you think about the KAbar BK7 knife ?
I like my Tops Silent Hero.. These ones are sick, too..
Great video, thanks!
Very good set of knives there pal I might look up some of them myself.
Great review :)
I was surprised that you didn't include the Becker BK2 or BK16. All the Becker knives are tough and reasonably priced. I really like the looks and price of the SCH42D. I'm going to have to check that one out.
Nice review. I found my next blade!
Great video. You should, if you haven't already, do a review of the Steel Will Druid line. Be great to hear your viewpoint.
I was actually thinking about checking out their new fixed blade. Gekko.
Very good review. Thanks
Awesome Video Dude. Very Nice Knives. Keep up the great work. Nick.
Thanks Nicholas.
Awesome video my friend, new sub!! some amazing knives...
Great video. Subscribed!
...Always put my money on TOPS, never been disappoint. Mission Team 21 (personal fav..) and Cochise.. Two thumbs way up.. .02
enjoyed the vid. It was informative and to the point. Make sure you give ballpark cost on all knives it helps.
thanks for the reviews
Cool collection. Some interesting designs.
Those are some cool knives. Thanks for the vid!
Thanks for checking it out.
Great vid. Seems, like the best knife for me would be benchmades
i came across your channel and love it
thanks for all the helpful information
Glad it helped Ryan.
Say Heah Tim, WoW is this summer going fast, I'm the summer I like to incorporate a long knife to help me with the brambles, But when you mentioned a One Tool Option, right away I thought of my Potbelly, I bought it together with the Parangatang which I use alot as one of my long knives, But the Potbelly was a stepping stone for what now is one of my Fav's One Tool Option. My Ratweiler. What helps me alot, For a big knife, the choil allows me to do fine work with it, Although I teamed mine with the Rodent Solution, I basically just use the Ratweiler for everything. I also started using my new found large knife that I had for a while now, I bought it more as a chopper, But when my BK-9 out chopped it, I sort of put my BK-4 aside, Then I started using my Summer Long Knife to clear the Brambles then the light went on. It is called a Machaxe, It's OK using it that way, But I like mine just a little longer. But when I realized for good it sliced and did some of the fine work, The light went off again. Why not just use it as a long knife. A tool was born. I did take it out this weekend, But as my large knife, I teamed it with my BK-2 and it's good, But I think I will try teaming it up with my BK-10 next time. But since I don't carry both knife at the same time, Don't get me wrong, So far that combo is working out great. Actually tgere really isn't a whole lot of difference in thickness, maybe a 1/16th" That's not that much and besides I did wear my Mora 510 as a neck knife and in the cabin, We went out for a Bush Craft 4th of July weekend, But all we're doing is feeding our faces heh heh heh, Anyhow, I Wish you a Happy and Safe 4th of July.
Great selection of unique knives
Practical Life Television thanks PLT
Alot of great tips
Say Heah Tim, Thanx, great review. I have the Benchmade Bushcrafter #162, F.Y.I. for a very reasonable price, I got the Frog for the Dangler Ring on the sheath from Battle Horse Knives. It matches very good and I really like that sheath alot better now. I also got a similar set to your O.K.C.'s I Got THE Ranger RD-9 and the Afghan both in the 5160 and the Hi-Viz Orange Handles, I have a nice story with that steel and the RD-9. I just pulled the trigger on a Mora Hatchet and the 2000 both in the Orange so they'll match as a nice set. Seriously a great video. I would also like to Wish You a Happy Easter.
Thnx, fixed blade and thick stock built to last. Glad most key mfg going back to this instead of hollow handle fad yrs ago. Worked in grampa's day but for modern steels, thnx
Love ya vids 👍 nice knifes☺
Love your videos!
Cool video bro!
Awesome! Video thanks for sharing
Greg Benson thanks for checking it out.
Thanks for the information
I use my issue Marine K-bar it's never let me down in the 52 year's I've had it
Marc Johnson sweet. That’s cool to hear.
Get some devil dog. Love the kbar
What about the Lofty Wiseman? My next purchase. Probably the small one.
I like the kukri, I think that with a small Moore backup would be perfect.
Moora
Nice video man.
Great video, watched this video 5xs so far. What's your opinion of the fallkniven a1, a1 pro?
great video buddy 👍😎
I liked what he had to offer. It is just your choice as to what suits you best. Great info!
Paul Parent thanks for watching Paul.
I like the Beaker BK2 knives.
Great Vid! A new perspective to the usual U.S. knive reviews - with good steel products like Böhler-Uddeholm steels like N690 or Elmax. I was interested in the AMUK of 3 Dog Knife - sadly everything is sold out!
Keep up the great work, greetings from Switzerland :D
Sorry to hear that - but thanks for checking out the video.
N690 is a great steel awsome edge retention, definitely worth the money.
great vid really helpful !!! subbed !
Awesome - welcome aboard!
Great video! You should also check out Blackheart Knives (Gunner 10 and Gunner 12).
