Those old school video game sounds are so soothing
Alex kidd in Shinobi world: You can also climb the lightpoles, then you can use them to spin around turning Alex into a fireball charging forward killing everything in his way ;)
Why anybody would hate alex kidd is beyond me he was segas original mascot before Sonic came along and the games are notoriously hard which brings the challenge
When I was in middle school I had the N64 and my next door neighbor had the PS1, and yeah we were jealous of each other’s console he had FF7 and I had Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye.
We would trade consoles from time to time , and I think he had more games than I did. Your story at the beginning kinda reminds me of those days.
Mike did you know the sega master system and genesis/megadrive are still being sold in Brazil? Also the master system was more popular than the nes in most of Europe, south korea,Australia and especially Brazil. And some master system games had improved fm synthesis sound in japan but none anywhere else but you can mod your north American master system to be compatible with the fm synthesis sound
Hey Mike: Aerial Assault is an awesome game and one of my favorites on the platform. You got to get the power ups and it gets more fun. You can get speedups, more powerful weapons and bombs. You shoot the spinning jets to get the power ups and such. And the game gets harder and the scenery changes. Give it another shot Mike. You'll grow to love it.
I've spent most of 2020 collecting Master System games. Such an underrated system.
So basically you've had a better 2020 than the rest of us, we get it.
@@kevinr.3542 I put on 15 kilos. My 2020 has been awful and the Master System games were bought to obfuscate the pain.
It really is.
This is great, just this week I started getting into the Master System!
awesome, how's that going for you?
@@Stevie-J probably ok, he just might not have felt like replying.
The master system is a very fun system. The master system has some really fun and cool games. If you lived in the US in the 1980s, you'll remember the master system, never got a chance to shine, because of Nintendo's dirty tactics.
@@marccaselle8108 cry more
took me 3 sittings to get through this, but i finally made it. very interesting to see what the master system had to offer as i was a nintendo kid. looking forward to part 2. cheers!
good on you for pulling through it, yeah the SEGA Master System was a good console, it probably would've fared better in the states had Nintendo not had such a domineering hold over the market.
still 300+ games were made worldwide for the system and in Brazil the SMS lived on like the PS2 did, well beyond it's expected lifetime.
@@UltimateGamerCC I'm brazilian, and ur totally right about what you said, Brazil really loves Master System. And the same about Mega Drive/Genesis.
@@paulochumbrego well of course i'm right, you dont keep a system like the Master System going for 10+ years after everyone else let it go, unless you really liked it.
also i know this cause i knew someone from Brazil and heard all about the community there.
needless to say, i felt a whole lot better knowing that i wasnt the only one who loved the console.
I'm just glad that you gave Astro Warrior an A+ because that was one of my favorite Master System games back in the day. I drew pictures of it in school it took up so much real estate in my head. It was such a basic shooter but it looked so cool and had such awesome music, it stuck with me... and I didn't even own it, I played it over my friend's house because I didn't own a Master System.
I want that game at some point.
It was a great Sega master system game i agree
Had a Sega Master System when I was 10 years old or something. Loved: Golvellius: Valley Of Doom, Golden Axe Warrior, Miracle Warriors, Alex Kid In Miracle World, Wonder Boy 3: The Monster's Trap, Alex Kid In Shinobi World, etc.
Man, would love a Golvellius stream! It is basically Sega's Zelda, except I played it before Zelda.
dont i know it, very fun game, though admittedly the passwords are known to fail sometimes, which sucks! i've played Golvellius so much i can complete it in an afternoon, so it's not an issue for me anymore.
Thank you so much for continuing this series, Mike. I really enjoyed the NES series and had quite a few good laughs.
I agree ☝️
looks like next gen compared to NES
I'd love to see gameboy a-z, some of those ps1 era games were better in 2d.
Impressed by the graphics this system could pull off since it was a contemporary of the NES. Both systems' producers/programmers most likely got better as time went on but still I was unaware of what the Master System was capable of.
It came out a few years later, it was a contemporary, but it was the 3rd machine Sega put up to try and compete with NIntendo's machine. And then one year lateer the PC Engine came out.
yeah the graphics here are arguably better than NES, had to look it up to see if it was 8 bit
Awesome Mike, the Master system was my first console and will always hold a special place for me, thanks for doing this Dude.
Ugh NOOO. You finally play Bomber Raid and check out after 20 seconds. It's like a 30-40min game on a perfect run. Please adjust your visual settings next time and give it another go. I know I've said before to you and Erin, but up here in my little town in MA in the 80s, I was literally the only kid who had SMS. The handful of games I can attest are good that I owned and want to see beaten... I want to see done by someone entertaining. Quartet, Ghost House, Transbot, Ghostbusters, Bomber Raid, Choplifter... there's probably a few more.
EDIT: 30 year flashback! I had Fantasy Zone 3! Holy Shite. I've seen the first 2 played before on here and always thought that looks familiar but I didn't have it. Then I saw this and BAM. And now seeing it, I think I recall it being much more in-depth than just a Pacman clone, with the money and upgrades and different enemies. Worth another look. Man, my like 30-40 game collection that disappeared many years ago... :0(
The Master System accounts for a lot of my earliest gaming nostalgia. First game I played was rocky on Christmas morning and I will never forget it. Action Fighter, Enduro Racer, Hang On, Zillion, Captain Silver, the Wonderboy series, so many great games ☺️
California games 2 got a thumbs up...your insanity keeps me chuckling
Mike : "Why are all of the ambulances on the road?"
Me : Because you're killing everyone.
I'm 4 hours in and Mike has skipped most of my faves after about 5 seconds playing lol
He did that with my nes faves
Yup, he kinda played Air Rescue for a while, but with G-Loc, he didn't even passed the tutorial and saw the main mechanic of the game...
There's some real stinkers here though. As with all libraries. Which one's were your faves?
My mom loved playing Gangster Town, she played it way more than I did. I love these long retro videos, thanks for the entertainment and memories.
YES!!!! Play every game for every console!
Alex Kidd is better than Mario, and I love Mario. Alex Kidd has everything Mario has. Jumps, blocks, catchy music, unforgettable enemies..and it´s also very very simple. But it has more imagination and more things that will stick with you forever... simple things like the hamburger in the end of first level. And in the "Alex Kidd in Shinobi World", you can climb the lamp posts right in the beginning and start rotating to kill the enemies in the easiest way possible! Try that :)
Mike seems to have a long drawn out breakdown from about 4:29:29 and this becomes hilarious.
Awesome ive been waiting for your next A-Z stream. Next should be Genesis A-Z
PC A-Z.
@@crawlingamongthestars3736 oh god lol
Many gems on the small NTSC SMS librairie. My favorites are probably Fantazy Zone 1 & 2, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Wonderboy 1-2-3, Golvellius, Y's, Choplifter, Action Fighter, Enduro Racer, Ghost House, and Great Baseball. Phantasy Star is great as well just not my fav.
Ghost House was brilliant.
Wait till he gets to the R's and plays Rampage, that's when you realize us NES rampage players were chipped big time.
Love these A - Z games videos Mike, looking forward to part 2
I got my Master System in 1988. Great days. Alex Kidd In Miracle World was awesome lol.
I also played the life out of Transbot, Xenon 2, Black Belt, Double Dragon and Moonwalker to name just a few.
YESSSSSS MIKE YOU BRING US CHRISTMAS EARLY
2:37:10 Wow. The looks almost like some 16 bit games.
Watching him dodge the power ups in Astro Warriors while he went on a crazy house rant had me screaming.
you have a legit ALF and willie impression.
You can spin on the telephone poles and shoot your way to that power up in the first screen
You freaking god you! Playing every single title from one of my favorite systems. You go you!
Thanks for doing this. Wasn't the sms technically more powerful than the nes? Just goes to show that sega metaphorically tested the waters before any other company did in so many different scenarios
nice! I was a sega kid growing up
Mike playing Alf for 3 minutes made the whole video and my day. Lol
3:48 I actually like Lion King (for sega genesis). I have it since I'm a kid. I just beaten it as a teenager though.
4:08:45 triggered
I think Fantasy Zone is actually pretty fun if you give it a chance, there is no "bell system" in Fantasy Zone, so I think you are confusing it with Twin Bee. I enjoy it's upbeat music, as well.
ALEX KID IN SHINOBI WORLD- CLIMB LAMP POSTS THEN SPIN ROUND FOR BEST MECHANIC! AWESOME FIREBALL ACTION!!!
ALSO THINK CAN SWIPE BELOW WHEN JUMPING DOWN WITH SPECIAL SWORD.
The first Astrix you played is such a good game. But you have to destroy the blocks with your potions and you missed going down the wells for bonus sections
Master system games actually looked better than NES, they just didn't get the controller dialed in until the Genesis. But do always plug the Genesis controller into the Master System.
Nintendo had better marketing, sound, and programmers. I think they based the hardware capabilities on SMB arcade.
There's a model 2 controller for the SMS. The NES controller is the worst controller I've used. Makes your fingers bleed on it's d pad.
@@pferreira1983 Yeah it is. The edges are rounded and so is the D-pad, there's no knife like edges on it, like the NES pad.
Yes SMS one of my favorite systems
it was definitely better than some give it credit, i give it plenty of credit as it was my first console, had 15 games ranging from great (Phantasy Star) to horrible (ALF)
@@pferreira1983 well it probably would help if he was european, i mean you have to appreciate the comics of Asterix to truly appreciate the franchise as a whole.
@@pferreira1983 i cant see that being a STANDARD licensed tie-in, because it's actually good. XD
@@pferreira1983 i wish i could agree with the first half of that statement, because most licensed games are actually pretty bad, if they were Mediocre that would be fine, but back then devs often used licenses for easy cash grabs rather than making something good out of it.
Kenseiden is one of the greatest games made for the Master System
Big Bart's Nightmare vibes from Back to the Future 2.
Loved Pit Pot as a kid! My friends had it and Astro Warrior! And Black Belt! I was so jealous!
Just when i thought it was gonna be a boring night, thanks Mike! this was good shit right here, can't wait to see part 2.
Your welcome for my suggestion Mike
3:36:22 Ghost Hunt explanation:
get the keys to open the coffin and kill Dracula or something (it's been ages since last time i've played). If you jump where there is a lamp the time stops for some seconds and you can kill Dracula easier that way. You can jump over the knife to pick them up too just like you did with the darts (that only gave points).
With the time stopped just stab him to death.
Man I like Donald Duck too
alf transcends death as an angel, lol
6 hours!! Damn, it man
They are making a remake of Alex kidd in miracle world.
They made one no?
@@moescredriver5486 They havent yet, THEY ARE DOING IT
@@moescredriver5486 it's not out yet.
@@duffman18 I’ve been thinking of coming out, lol hahaha
Are they made it or is it making done?
I joined Twitch just to watch Mike. I think, endurance-wise, he's the best gamer I've seen. Who else is gonna do this shit? Haha
The original AVGN. Yeah...James is cool and I love his demeanor and honesty. But after learning more, I discovered that Mike is the true Angry Video Game Nerd. Playing fucking Silver Surfer and Back to the Future, for hours on end...that, my friends, is a true Angry Video Game Nerd.
Thanks Mike. You inspired me to push myself farther in retro games. Currently, I'm playing Super Mario World mods and Super Metroid mods. Whenever I get discouraged, I just remember your commitment and endless perseverance.
My favorite NES game is Felix the Cat. I have a feeling Mike would enjoy it too.
I had this system
Do PC Games A-Z next!
So right around 2:04:34 Mike loses his mind. Reminisces about his NES list, then just...succumbs to the dark path he has chosen...begrudgingly lol. Lasts until the hoodie comes on.
2:47:24 - Crabmeat? (Sonic the Hedgehog)
I never new about the Sega Master System back in the day... i am impressed
EVERYONE heard of and had an NES. I had NEVER heard of the SEGA Master System until they were promoting their Genesis. I didn't know a single person that had a Master System. I had NEVER seen anything related to it in ANY store. Are people sure those were common around the U.S or all of the states? I Remember seeing an adapter for Master System cartridges in the Genesis catalog, but no store had them nor any of the carts, it was mail order only.
"Fred Fuchs Football!!" Lol
I think Black belt is Fist of the North Star from Japan.
Mike you are the only one who does what you do, the way you do it. I’ll probably be watching these playthroughs/reviews when I’m 60. Thank you for your service.
1:42:40 "Just drive past him"
One thing I've noticed from watching Mike's stream archives is a lot of the people watching him live give terrible advice and have never played the games they're providing tips for.
You bring me some good memories Mike.Master system was my first console
Sad he jumped Chuck rock 2, all the C letter and Alex kidd bmx and high tech world
Lol sounds like a plan Mike!! Let's do every system every game!! I'm sure most of your fans would love that and would actually sit threw about 10hrs of trying out games
The Aladdin game on SMS is the same as the GG version. but the GG version got a US release!
that Astro Warrior looks like a complete copy of Star Force.
Kenseiden was the shit growing up
There was a dude named Gobitz at a place I worked and we called him Go Bots
Best part was Astrix great rescue, first level. Punched the door for about 30 seconds. Went back for the key, and did the head nod when the door opened.
Its all about the Games Mike! not the system ;) Time to think outside the NintenBOX :D
Dudeu got so pissed off yelling at my phone telling you to knock egg head off the road I was so disapointed you just quit without trying it.
The Sega Master System was my first videogame. I'm so happy to see some of the games I've played back in the days :)
Mike, you should check out the controller by Hori and licensed by SEGA called the SG Commander.
I would loooove to see these old "flawed" games re-worked and having things like controls fixed, like what the fans did with things like Zelda 2 Redux rom hack for example, finally Zelda 2 is not a pain in the ass to play
I'm a huge Sega fan. I'm still watching the hole live, but Alex Kid in Miracle World is a little underrated... Try to play it beyond the 2 stage.... It becomes better, and a lot harder too... It's a great game from that era. Thanks Mike for the video! You're great.
7up bottle with red spot comes in the 1980 only , before that it was a red logo . Btw daffy duck made in 1994 on the master system is pretty astonishing , genesis was out since 5 years and they still make game for the master system ???
K
The reason home alone was playing up is because its a pal exclusive and wont run properly on a ntsc sega console. If you play it on a emulator or an actual pal console then it will run perfectly
Hope this helps
Laughed my ass off at california games.
best way to find games. the games you find and like you pick up, and that's how you start your collection.
I noticed your files were a little out of order. If it bothered you at all and the sd card you are using on everdrive is formatted to one of the fat formats and you know anyone who is hip with linux, they could run a program called fatsort and it will rewrite the filesystem table and correct the order.
Mike the 🐐 at it again. Nobody does retro better....nobody.
Hell yeah! Mike is out there doing the Lord's work
The Lord of the Sword's work.
Mike is a Gangsta
6 hs? I will see it while I do some farming lol
BtW Action fighter was in AVGN Bad Games Covers
I got a brand new, sealed copy of “Kenseiden” for $5 at “Best” in 1989.
talk about a bargain, holy shit.
1 Hit Deaths in the game ALF are contagious
Hulk game looks pretty fun, huh...
"Oh, we've got an A?" (crashes) Fuck
18:32
Love when Erin joins in the stream.
When she joins, Mike becomes too tame.
Helll yeahhh! You finally played Golvellius ! My Favorite game growing up!
i totally feel ya Mike, it doesnt have to look like Bloodborne or Dark Souls to look good, retro games can look great, and some can definitely look like shit, but hey so can today's games.
If there was one game to go back and play again, to learn the real mechanics of it, I'd say Gain Ground.
You were missing a key concept of it. Worth playing and I prefer the SMS version over the MD.
A lot of the games he missed out on were because he is simply playing the game without the game manuals to explain details.
Also Gain Ground is one the best games ever made, MS version is pretty much a 1.5 sequel.
Gain ground rules. loved it on the genesis didn't know it was on master system til I watched this video.
What's next A-Z on the Amiga 500?
56:25 remember playing this loads growing up
Plllllease do a A-Z of Snes!! ... Only master system I have nastoliga with is Sonics, mickey mouse, Lemings & Alex kid
