Madison Line Dance demo from The Definitive Madison Instructional DVD

- čas přidán 9. 12. 2012
- This clip is taken from The Definitive Madison Instructional DVD released back in 2005 featuring swing and Madison dance specialists Jennifer Comar and Paolo Pasta Lanna. This particular version contains all the original steps that were choreographed back in 1958 to match the calls of DeeJay Eddie Morrison featured on The Madison Time recording by Ray Bryant. AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD at lindyland.com/downloads
This demo was made possible after several years of research, encouragement by Lance Benishek who had an inclination that steps being showcased were not all original patterns, some trips to Baltimore, interviews with former Madison dancers such as Linda Snyder (one of the original "committee" dancers on the Buddy Dean Show.) Most importantly, it was the footage provided by Arlene Kozak (producer of The Buddy Dean Show broadcast out of Baltimore, Maryland in the 1950's), that provided an accurate glimpse into it's history. That year, a dance couple had been commissioned to travel the states and demonstrate this line dance. There was one short film clip that showcased them, and that provided the answers to the missing puzzle.
I am finally releasing this demonstration filmed in 2005 on youtube to help spread these steps world wide.
Note: The Definitive Madison Instructional DVD also features another line dance based on the musician Al Brown and the Tune Topper's version of the Madison. In addition, there are Partner Style demonstrations that were developed by both Jennifer and Paolo with influence from Ryan Francois. More historic notes and Instruction for all the footwork is also available on this DVD. © 2006 Jumpin Entertainment - Zábava
This is the best thing ever created by a human being x
Man,a live!; this jazz/rhythm and blues dance takes me back to my early years. I was 7 years old when I first heard this tune.
Came here from Rorror Picture Show, learned a litte :)
+Ennas78 Of course we know how to FUCKING madison!
Me too
Same Ennas78
Same. Hahahah the time warp is a way better dance
But it has no pelvic thrust!
I enjoy watching you so much I started to dance at home, by myself. Thanks for making these videos. I'm 61 and only danced one time in my life till I saw you guys.
That is great are you good at dancing now?
When I was in high school, parts of this dance were repopularized as "the Two Step." For one brief glorious moment, my history loving nerdy self was the coolest kid on the dance floor. Thank you, Ernest Green Story. Well, for that and you know, telling me who the Little Rock 5 were.
SAY! Do any of you know how to madison?
I don't understand why anyone would rather do this than Time Warp.
Ronin Elenion im here to learn it cause my school is doing this in hairspray
Screw the time warp, this song was great! The Madison is very complex and takes time to master!
When I was young, back in the 80s, and the *ORIGINAL* Rocky Horror Picture Show was as greatly loved and constantly watched as it was in the 70s and still is now, we always *_did_* wonder exactly HOW safe and non-controversial (i.e. "square" in Rocky Horror terms) "The Madison" dance actually was. No Internet then, of course, and line dancing absolutely isn't a "thing" here in the UK. We had a guess, of course, from the context... but all I can say is that we *WAY* underestimated just *_how_* embarrassing Brad's suggestion was - and Janet's response now makes perfect sense! :D
PS: No offence to anyone who likes "The Madison"... I just wouldn't suggest it at a RHPS midnight showing... ^^
I do! My mom taught me.
I'll bet that the Ray Bryant Combo never thought this would live on this long! I Luvvit!
have to do this for hairspray );
Thank you for saving a part of 1950s Americana. I remember peaking around the corner to spy on my parent's Madison Party. Brings back many old memories of a time gone by.
My mom told me she danced the Madison while she was pregnant with me. She mentioned it to me when the film "Hair Spray" was at the movies in 1988.
Peak of humanity
Came here from the 1959 Project. Swing dancing: fun to do, fun to watch! Thanks for the video.
По-русски можно то же самое?

This is a terrific video. I would love to learn to dance like that, it looks so fun. I can't understand why people are so full of misery they would give 52 thumbs down. Absurd, this was great.
I have been trying to learn this dance since the original Hairspray came out. Thanks for sharing ❤
That was AWESOME!!!
This dance was ALWAYS at my families functions - when i was much younger.. My mother could dance her ass off. I used to do this dance, thought it was cool 'cuz all the oldsters were doing it.
I will master it again - great exercise !!
Sooo wholesome 🥺🥺
Can you believe there was such a time as this?
i found the recognition i needed
I'm a big fan of line dances and if I had never watched Hairspray (the original with Rikki Lake) I never would have heard of The Madison. Love it!!! Thanks for sharing this instructional clip.
Rikki lake was the remake
I really love this song!!!!
this is so joyful! thank you for the reference!
I'm here after watching Grease, and a video about the making of the film. The dance choreographer mentioned that the group dancing in "We go together" was based on the Madison.
Pretty good. I guess you have to know how to do the Birdland and see Jackie Gleason leave the stage when he said and away we go. LOL Such a fun dance. The steps to the dance are on the back of the album.
11/22/63 brought me here, just to see what all the hype was about :p
Me too, i thougt, they danced something different 🤔
I found this dance difficult and frustrating at first, but now I'm dancing it with confidence!
My parents danced this and man I loved watching them
Best one yet,use to do it
Gotta polish up my steps
love it....
My name is madison!
👍
This is priceless
AWESOME! Everything was perfect. Just how I remembered it. That was a really fun dance to do.
This is the first time I have seen a video of the Madison where all the steps were done correctly….good job guys you are awesome
+Patrick Coffey Yep, especially the Rifleman part. That's closer to how my mom showed me how to do it....
I'm from Baltimore MD. I remember back in the fifties the women would be hanging clothes on the line and someone had the radio in the window and when Madison time came on my mother and the other mothers would drop their clothes pins and form a line and dance and me and the other kids would join in too we had a good time dancing all over that court yard. I was about 7 or 8. I'm 66 now. and this song brought all those good feelings back to mind. and I also danced on the Buddy Dean show. Me and my cousins and friends were the first group to integrate the Buddy Dean show back in 1965 or 66
Wait, what? Who is 'Buddy Dean'? Don't you mean Corny Collins?
czcams.com/video/eEkLpmvIMuw/video.html
@@YouzTube99 Corny Collins was the fictional character in Hairspray that was inspired by the real life Baltimore based TV show host Buddy Dean.
Patrick, if you are knowledgeable on Madison steps or know anyone else who might, would you get in touch with us? We're currently undertaking a project to decipher some of the lesser known steps like The Hayward, The Beggar, The Drunk, The Scissors, The Welfare Check, The Sputnik, The 4,3,5 and more. Regards, Paolo.
Love this song, and you guys are doing the Madison great!!
My Mom and Aunts said that the Electric Slide reminded them of the Madison that they did when they were young.
This is great. I always wanted to learn since I started teaching a senior dance class. But I get migraines and in order to watch I need to view multiple times, and the flickering filter is dangerous to some of us. 😢😢😢
putting this in a dance playlist for group exercise ... thanks for the very instructive video
you guys rock

Oh yea, Shrine Of The Little Flower CYO. Dottie and Steve did the Madison up the steps all the way to Belair Road over 60 years ago.

Followed by a modest twist.
Great job guys!
Very good instruction
VERY NICE! :-)
So. . . That's pretty cool. . .
~Madison
Our class did this in about 1960 for the annual May Day Celebration that the schools used to have. Every class would do an act outside for the parents and faculty on May1st. I remember that year my little brother's kindergarten class did "I'm a Little Teapot."
LOVE THIS DANCE. GREAT! LOVE THE JACKIE GLEASON MOVE.
Have a Great America time
Hit it !
Pure excellence!

My name is Madison ..
What is the beat count for this dance? Or do you just have to let go of that notion for this one?
The basic Madison step is counted in 6 beats (and repeat). Most of the calls are counted in 4 or 8 beats. There are a few exceptions like the Jackie Gleason and T-time which use a combination of 4 and 6 count patterns.
our profs making us folm ourselves dancing to this 😔 tell me why do i look like a stomping yeti when I'm doing it.
props man props
half way through it, now for the hard bit...........!!!
Tres kewl!
Do any of you know how to Madison?
Is it just a jump to the left?
You know why this dance never really caught on? Because this record was created by record studio personnel. It was made to become a fad by older people. Kids were too hip for that. It’s not something like the twist that just sort of started somewhere and then people started making twist records and then before you know it was in clubs and then was in high school dances etc. and everybody was doing it for a few years and went away then came back. Just the whole feel of the record is anti-rock ‘n’ roll!
le rythme du Madison est celui que j' aime !!
I did it...kind of
Can anyone help me find the original 1958 video? It was online just a few months ago (at the end of August 2015) and now I can't find it. This is a fine video but I'd also like to see the original again!
czcams.com/video/DcBkoVJ1vOQ/video.html
do the strand
Are they doing opposite so we can copy? Are we using right leg or left?
Billie Kostas You start with the Left leg. :)
How odd to see instructional dance videos from people who really look cool doing the dance.
Yarına tek bilet:)
That looks like a young Jo Jorgenson. #JoJo2020
Remember this dance very very very and enjoyed it to the fullest. Yasser ▪
This isn't your grandparents Madison. Okay, yeah it is.
