Betcha My flute is in one of those bins somewhere.. You’ve inspired me to get back to playing. I stopped playing after college which was over 20 years ago. I remember way more than I thought I would picking it back up but I never formally studied outside of school nor did I do much classical music so that’s what I am aiming to learn now. I was a sick kid and in and out of hospitals and the flute and my drawing were my lifesavers during those rough patches. Im now a graphic artist in San Francisco. Thank you for helping me reignite my passion. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to study with you sometime in the future!

For my honor band I made seventh chair flute which was a big deal for me since im the youngest in the category and I wasn’t confident in the audition material until a week before auditions!

FC Chicago - great location on Michigan Ave! Gorgeous view, friendly staff, very busy techs! Glad to have them closer by. Enjoyed your video, as always 😊

It is nice to hear that you do other stuff, and keep holiday. It looked ‘cozy’ as we say about Denmark! 😏😉 I hope that you are well and not too stressful! ❤

Hi, just wondering what your concentration and favorite part of being at Juilliard was and who did you study with?

Hi! I was a flute performance major and I studied with Robert Langevin, the principal flutist of the New York Philharmonic :)

Girlie! Dont worry about disappointing anyone! If you released a vlogmas in June, I'd watch it. I hope the hard drive is ok. And just a quick note, I've watched your content for years and you've inspired me to add one more instrument to my list. Hopefully 2024 is the year of music lol. Happy New Years to you and your family🩷

I’m still trying to get used to forScore! I love it though. Being able to edit any pdf and touch the screen to change the page is golden! !

I was both - definitely viewed arts as more of a hobby but in my final year of high school I gave up my sports and focused on pursuing music!

Would you recommend Juilliard as a school? I am 13 and working on grade 8 AMEB flute and I hope one day to go there. I also live in Australia so I would have to move.

🎹 No, Katie! Not the music!! Actually, I have a very old book of Beethoven sonatas languishing somewhere . . . or maybe we'll just make stars from Chemex coffee filters (they're round.) See you in 2024! 🎉🎉

I bought an inexpensive secondhand electric piano when I went back to music school, and it came with a book of piano music that I'd never have enough piano skill to play, nor the desire to (I need piano skills to a certain level for my degree in my state). So I used the pages to accent greeting cards that I make, as well as in art journaling that I do occasionally.

Will someone tell me the significance of holding the barrel of the flute and playing with the right hand only? I asked on another platform a few months back, and even texted my teacher and asked, and didn’t get a response from anyone.

If youre refrencing to what katie did in the video I'd assume its to focus primarily on warming up the flute and playing a few notes in the proccess rather than jumping right into playing with both hands I do that sometimes lol. Some people most likely arent comfortable playing right after after putting their flute together so this is a way of warming up. I'm not sure if there's much significance to it and if I'm wrong someone could correct me but just to answer you because you weren't receiving a response on other platforms hope I helped 👍

hi Jenifer! It is an exercise from the Flute 101 book. I use it a lot with my beginning students before they move on to holding the flute with both hands in the proper spot, but I like to use it when warming up just to ease into playing especially early in the morning :)

@@katieflute Thanks. It's also referenced in The Art of Chunking, but I don't have Flute 101, which probably would have given me more insight. I'll need to try that.
