- čas přidán 15. 08. 2024
- Hey Awesome Ones, if you are feeling like you are in a fashion rut you may find these 7 styling mistakes familiar. I show the Do's & the Don'ts to many styles that keep women looking drab, when they could be looking fab, and even younger. Although many of my videos are watched by women over 50 and over 60, this video tutorial could be of interest to a woman in her thirties or forties too. Enjoy!

You should do another video like this one and pair your white pants with white tennis shoes, white shirt and a white jacket.

Saying the truth u need in a good diet
It is depressinh
The colors you chose are terrible for your skin tone
I don't work anymore so I don't dress up when I'm around the house. I do all the don'ts!!! But, when I do leave the house, I enjoy making it special. Thanks for all your tips!!!
Thanks for sharing Kimberly!
OMG thank you for the tip about no-show socks. Mine also always came off my heel and worked it’s way to become a mangled mass under my foot.
I need to do this every time I wear those sockettes!
PLEASE don't dump a warm coat due to so called "fashion" rules. She looked great in the older coat AND is useful for many situations. Doubt anyone cares WHAT jacket I wear while hiking or doing yard work
I too much prefer the boxy dark brown jacket. That actually makes you look younger, imo, than the somewhat lumpy looking sherpa lined jacket.
I learned that wearing polarfleece or anything with a pile. Stickers loved to get tangled up in them. A slick, nylon type outer layer is good.
I don't think "style" advice really applies to what you wear when hiking or doing yard work. Her suggestions are for style - like how you dress when you're going out and want to look nice, on trend, and up to date. Of course no one says you have to dump your old coat, these are only suggestions!
embellished (embroidered, bedazzled) jeans are the ones I snatch up in every size to be cut up into quilt blocks, throw pillow, bags
I live in the same clothes all the time, Jeans with either sweater, sweatshirt or tshirt, and either wellies, or hiking boots or trainers And usually an anorak. I'm in my 70's hardly ever wear makeup, and live in the Scottish Highlands
Your tips for dressing when you are over 50 are very logical and realistic. Thank you!
Thanks for letting me know they resonate with you
Good advice as usual, Heather! It's our golden hour and we need to shine! Less drab, more fab!
So true Teresa!
💛
more fab, less flab.
What a great attitude!!
I am always surprised when I visit the US how casual they dress even for dinner out! 🇬🇧 I believe that eating nutritionally is the best thing to make you look youthful clothes don't matter when you are at an ideal weight you can wear simple clothes and they still look good
Just found your video & enjoyed it very much. I have always dressed with a personal flare & enjoy new looks as I age (I'm now 72). Never did care for "must do" & "never do" (ie: never wear jeans over 50....who makes this stuff up?). Never cared for rules at all! So, this rebellious soul is happy to consider any & all ideas. I like your style & enthusiasm. Thanks!
Thanks so much for your input!!
I’m loving your videos. I really appreciate all the fashion advice, especially since I tend to live in shorts and t-shirts. When I DO have somewhere to go, I generally have no idea what to wear.
So glad to help out!
I love seeing the comparisons.
Heather, my grandmother always said “A little bit of lipstick and a little bit of paint, makes an old lady, just what she ain’t!”❤
Love that Kendra!!
@@lovingourage those are cool white pants and cool white shoes. The match your white shirt to. I have a cool suggestion for you.
…THAT IS “ SO NOT TRUE “❗️
My aunt told me the same thing!
Make up has made great strides. There is make up for all age groups nowadays. An older woman wearing well applied make up shows she's making an effort.
I’m nearly 68 years old and oh so happy that I’m okay with whatever I choose to wear! Some of your advice would be great for others and that’s okay too. Just not me
I enjoyed your program, agree with you, just because we age, we can still wear bright colors….I always did, and will continue…..I turned 80 in Dec. 2022, and I keep slim, trim, I am always busy, doing something, tho I’m retired….so many gals just sit around, and gain weight, not for me ! You are an inspiration to women…. When I was young, I wore the High heels, pretty dresses, long dresses, and looked like a knock out ! Well, yet, anymore I still like blue jeans, and long pretty dresses, fix my hair up, and go out for dinner, for a fine dinner. Psychology was my field, so I always try to be up, and never let depression get a grip on me !! Age is only a Number !! Thank you, I will tune in more often…like your advice, on clothing….
I love what you said here Jean. You are truly an inspiration!!
I am so extremely happy that I tumbled into your channel! I love what I’ve seen so far and it’s been so helpful.❤
So happy to hear that!
I always get up, dress up and show up. I do it for me because it makes me feel better. I need to feel as good as I can. I am sick with Pulmonary Fibrosis and my IPF is giving me a run for my money. It is a CHALLENGE, so looking my best is for me and no one else, really.
Thank you for your video. Your content was great. Very helpful and I follow those things except the no sock look. Now, with your trick, I will try again. Those societies always fell off my feet too.😅
I hope you get some relief soon from your ailment. Thanks so much for sharing and take care.
@@lovingourage thank you. I hope so too. It’s all in the timing.
Thanks so much for the sock hack! Oh the times I’ve felt my socks slipping down into my shoes and bunching up under my foot arch. Drives me crazy. I’m off to go snipping now! ❤️
You are so welcome, happy to help!
This cerise or muted pink or soft plum blouse is a fantastic shade for you, Heather. It'll work for me too, as I turned from dark brown to platinum blonde. RE black: we want to pair it with soft pastels, white, cream or sand. That"ll take the edge off and makes our looks cutting edge.
Thanks so much for sharing Claudia!
Remove the insole from your shoe and put a sock over it. The ankle hole goes under the insole when you reinsert. I love this!
I think the perspective is going to be different depending on where you live and what your lifestyle is. A lot of people will say get rid of things but actually i buy a lot of preloved and sale items out of season and if they don't look right I remake them or re purpose. Currently it is winter and cold so its layers and my summer leggins which i exercise and do housework in, go under trousers. What i have discovered is that if you coordinate the colours and fit to your size, then most things will look better. Wear anything you want. Its your life
So much of what you share here resonates with me! Rethinking our best looks as we age and grow a bit curvier is a great idea. Your colours, for example, interesting to see how you “lit up” when you draped some brightness around your face! Yes about those capris too, can’t understand why women think them to be flattering. I will be interested in seeing more of your videos. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much for your kind words and sharing!
Capris have been around forever. They were called peddle pushers cut offs etc.
They are very comfortable & not worrisome for proper length. They come in different styles now & .I like them.
Capris really are a hot topic, aren't they? The brutal truth is that they are "old lady" clothes - to prove that, all anyone needs to do is look around and see who is wearing them. Young women don't wear that style because it looks frumpy. I'm not sure why they caught on so much with older women, but I cringe every time I see someone my age (60) in capris with a tunic top and velcro shoes. Please ladies, ditch that look!
Your videos are always fun. I love all of those bright colors. They sure do brighten up your face! 💜
Glad you like them Violet!
Love your saying don’t wear black all the times please! Don’t wear all black at all! Thanks so much for your amazing tricks on fashions🙏💞
Love the glow on your cheeks, thanks for sharing! Beautiful inside and out!
Thanks Tanya!
Yes, this video I believe is more achievable for many American women. Thanx for all you do!
You are so welcome, so glad it resonated with you Janet.
Everyone looks good in red, I think! I just got a royal blue top and I get compliments on it!
I love royal blue too!!
Certain reds are good according to what looks good on you. It depends on whether it is a "bluer red" or an "orangy-red", or bright red vs. soft red. Cooler vs. warmer.
First time seeing this channel. Very impressive
Love it
Thank you
Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know and welcome Lynda!
Thanks much! We need to be educated in fashion to look younger than our age!!
Porqué parecer más jóvenes? Es vergonzoso tener más edad acaso? Llévala con orgullo!
I really like how you show the difference. A treat for us older girls.
So glad you like that!
Thanks for revealing these mistakes, I shall change my ways!
Happy to help!
I may look drab at times but I am mostly at home. But one thing I won't wear is a black top. Black pants, black jacket yes. I agree you look better in the brighter colors. I don't usually wear bright but I do like subtle colors. Those jeans you wore were quite popular at one time but I wouldn't care to wear them now either. Plus they are a lower rise. I can't stand low rises on me! That used to be all you could find in stores. When I visit resale shops I see them but avoid them totally. Glad there are more choices now. Thank you for your video. I always need a reminder not to get too frumpy. lol
Thanks so much for sharing, great input!!
I can’t wear black near my face, either. I love color, though. I’m a spring, and, boy, was there a difference when I started wearing the right colors. The compliments poured in.
I never did look good in black which is fine with me. Love the colors you presented.
Same here--no black on top. I LOVE color--and need it!
@@gayle9428 hello..... how are you?
i guess you look good on a red dress.
There are few things that works for me.
1. Body shape, make it your priority.
2. Haircut and hairstyling, frame your face.
3. Makeup, only if necessary, to enhance
natural beauty.
4. Shoes, use them according to the style.
5. Accessorize minimally.
Omg...the tip for the 'no show' sock is brilliant.... thank you
I really love your hair ❤❤❤ I would just die the old jeans so everything blends in better especially if you have a good fit with them hard to find bluejeans!
I am a winter. I once counted that I had twenty one black tee shirts. I agree when you get older black is not as flattering. I love the sweater ..especially the color. I took my husband to pt today( knee replacement) and dressed up a little. I always do my hair and a makeup for me..makes me feel good and I like putting on make up. I know Covid did a number on some, but I did not let that be an excuse to quit trying all together. When I feel sloppy I feel awful. Spring is around the corner and that’s something to be happy about. ❤❤❤
I love what you said here Rita and I'm looking forward to Spring too!
Thanks for the tips and motivation 👏😊💕 your videos definitely resonate with me!!
So glad to hear that Janet!
Don’t listen ladies! Us real women over 50, do not give a d*mn what others think!
We wear what we want!
We wear what’s comfortable!
If others don’t like it…so what!
I always say - Wear what makes you happy.
specially woudnt take an advice from a woman whos is probably 70yr old and wears mens jumper, my dad use to have one of those... and has a oldlady haircut herself... doesnt really make her look any fresh. everyone to their own, women shoudnt be telling others what to do with their life or what to wear.
I agree with you, Thee Boss. I am also a Boss...of myself, and decide for myself what I want to wear. For example, there are so many "fashion experts" complaining about women wearing something "boxy" looking, but those are clothes that look good on me. I am at the lower end of the plus sizes, and do not have an indented waistline. Even when I was a young girl, I was just straight through there. I am not curvaceous, so there is no use pretending and wearing clothes that would be ill-fitting on me. Also, I like comfortable clothes and cannot stand tight clothing. I like clothes that skim over me. I refuse to wear high heels and have always refused to, as I feel they are ridiculous and unsafe. I do not agree that they are sexy looking. In short I feel that we older women should wear what we find pleasing and have fun creating our own looks.

I love that new Sherpa jacket ! Looks so cute on you ! It’s so funny how a little thing like socks showing can really change how you look to others ! Like men wearing black socks with sandals ! 🤣. Thank you for the inspiration to do better ! Since I don’t work anymore I really just dress comfy at home, but I try to make myself look nice by always wearing makeup, jewelry and fixing my hair. I dress up more when we are going out or hanging with family and friends. It’s the best of both world ! You guys have a great weekend ! See you Wednesday !
I always love reading your comments Lisa and you make a great point. You looked fab in those wedding photos you posted a while ago. Chat Wednesday!
@@lovingourage thank you so much ! That was such a fun wedding and it was very fun to be all glammed up !
Only time I wear mens socks--is at home when I swipe a pair of my husbands. Have never seen anyone with socks and sandels. Not even my "Snow Birds"--patients who came to Az each winter
I've pretty much dressed like the "right" choices my entire life. While crop pants with platform slides looked amazing with my long legs in the 80s, I've only worn them as a substitute for shorts since then, as I haven't worn shorts since the 80s.
Definitely as we age, our skin and hair and even eye color becomes less vibrant. I'm lucky, I guess, as my skin has always been paste-y white, not much change. But hair color makes a huge difference. I got bored and colored my hair a dark auburn a few years back. The color looked amazing on me, amd I knew my few red pieces might be a problem, but when my beloved purple items looked horrid, I decided it was time to play it safe with hair color.
Very Good advice, Awesome over 50! I agree with most suggestions you made. Simple clean straight leg or boot cut jeans with no embellishment is the way to go. Also, I agree crop jackets just do not look flattering on most women. The classic 'car coat' falling mid-hip to mid thigh is a much better choice. I learned a long time ago leggings that cut me off at mid calf are a bad choice. Elongate your silhouette with leggings down to your ankle.
Since I am over 50, I definitely spend more time choosing clothes that look modern and polished. But, not trendy or edgy. Those looks make me look like I am dressing too young. Oddly, that makes me look older.
I agree with keeping black away from the face. Black tee shirts, black blouses, are not forgiving and make tired eyes and facial lines stand out. Everyone is much better off choosing, camel, lavender, cream as blouse colors.
I always wear a little bit of makeup. A pink-rose lipstick and blush, and mascara on my upper lashes. Even this little bit makes a big difference.
Do not forgot to wear your sunscreen ladies!
Thank You over 50!!
Not everyone looks better in warm colors like camel and ivory.
Thanks so much for your input!
@@singerjo5791 Hi Sherry! I agree with you ! I think cool toned ladies look better in lavender, navy blue and white. These colors are So pretty.
Oo9k
I don’t think the majority of people look god in warm colors. The double breasted blazer was a better color than the rusty color of the other jacket. If she had paired it with a pair of straight legged pants, it would have suited her better
LOVE the comfy/baggy/boho look, and would LOVE to be able to wear it, but being curvy I look like a sack o potatoes when I do! LOL girl you are showing your age when you mentioned your "colors"! I too say "that's my story and I'm sticking to it!" when it comes to my "summer" colors...maybe I'll have to rethink that! Great video...shrinking violets UNITE!!!
I’m gonna look at the Amazon page! Thank you for the hints!
You are so welcome, enjoy the Amazon pages!
Great tips!
There are a few tips that are helpful, as always.... As for me, I don't care for those " no show socks " , they are uncomfortable, don't cover enough of ones foot. .. I suppose I'll stick with a " full coverage " short sock, even if it shows a little bit, it doesn't bother me , lol. ...on top of which , if my ankles aren't covered, I have a small problem with them " feeling cold "( due to an injury where one of my ankles had to be " re- built ) so I wear socks that help me with that. I agree with the " oversized look", but if that blazer is worn with slimmer trousers, and a fitted top, it still can work. :)
I think WAY oversized is just a silly look, anyway.
Thanks for sharing, you make some interesting points!
Great content and well delivered. You wore what you were preaching and it looks fantastic. I'm subscribed now.
Thanks so much for subscribing and your kind words
I don’t care about the jeans color trend, I always wear dark wash. I prefer a mid rise, because I’m short waisted and have virtually no waist. I’m also pear shaped, which is loads of fun.
Thanks for sharing!
@@lovingourage,,,,,,
If you feel good wearing it, then wear it. Screw the retail fashion bs.
thanks.
Another great video. Thanks. You are inspiring me!
So glad to hear that!
I'm a new subscriber, I'm a recent widow of 65 and I just don't know what to do fashion wise anymore, I've lost confidence and basically hadn't a clue
I am so sorry for your loss Angela. Sometimes the road back can be slow but hopefully you can gradually get your confidence back. It does make a difference.
Thanks for the no-show sock hack! They always slip down in my shoe which is not comfy - I will try your suggestion. :)
I think you will love it!
i just don't wear any socks. Plus it keeps my feet cooler in summer. not to wear any.
Love this video and I agree with so much of it you’re beautiful and I love your voice and your personality and your willingness to experiment and try different things and we don’t need to put ourselves in a box we don’t need to put a label on ourselves or limit ourselves yeah you’re right about the sheer tops and short short miniskirt but a pair of leggings with a jacket awesome I loved it I’m still wearing a little bit of fluttery up sheer like a négligée coming out from underneath a long T-shirt he type top so I’m getting a little bit of the femininity without it just being a full on Cranlyn tutu and that’s been really fun I’m 61 and I still enjoy being feminine and glamorous I have to be wicked careful about taking my makeup too much because it does look sort of like who’s afraid of baby Jane but if I just realize that no matter what I’m gonna do with my make up it’s gonna look older and just say hey it’s OK that I am an older woman wearing make up on I’m not trying to look like I’m a scrub to 15-year-old I’m an older woman and I have on make up and it’s OK I wear hair extensions and that helps my scrappy thin hair look at better I just feel that way if my nose was cut off I would put on a prosthetic in for me adding extensions helps you really inspire me your beauty your loveliness and your joy thank you I enjoy this video so much 🙏💌🤣
Wow, I love your comment! You are being your authentic self and I'm sure Aging with Attitude. Good for you!
You look really pretty in that color.
Yes it's resonating with me!! Thanks
So glad to hear that!
Thank you Heather for your interesting advice related our clothes.
You are so welcome!
I’m just digging out my embroidered jeans, that I have had forever, to toss out! I am also going to try the sling back sock
Thanks for sharing!
Lovely video Heather...so encouraging and positive!!!Thanks for sharingxxx
You are so welcome Marissa!
I love seeing the styles modeled by someone with a realistic body type. So many style videos, even for older women, are modeled by size 4 women with flat tummies so of course everything looks great on them. But I'm not interested in plus size videos, because that's not my size range, either. Just a normal, average size 8 model (or thereabouts) is way more realistic for me. BTW, all those jewel tones look GREAT on you. They really pop with your coloring.
Thanks so much for sharing Lisa!
Love your videos Heather! Blessings to you
Thanks so much for saying that. Blessings to you too!
That Urban Decay palette was my most favorite too. I actually hit pan on all of the shades. I need to buy another one but I keep telling myself I need to finish the other palettes I have. But this one is always on my mind! :)
I know my favs will go soon too, won't use them all. I seem to always just use the Urban Decay ones
Lipstick 💄 is the match that lights the fire 🔥 😍 of your face. It makes you glow. Keep it awesome 💋
Love that!
I really needed that tip with the sling back no show socks. So simple yet I couldn't think of it myself. I will be using that one immediately.
Yay! I use that tip all the time!
Temu sells them!
Thank you!
I loved these tips!
It’s amazing how thin you look with the positive tips!
Thanks for letting me know Kayleen
You look so beautiful in that purple sweater!
Thanks Maria!
First time watching and totally enjoyed your content! 🙋♀️👍❤️
Yay! Thank you for letting me know!
Wise and beautiful! Except for one thing; I would never ever use leggings, they are for babies and small children. I only use training tights because it’s often cold in Sweden and they also make it easier to move. Thanks for a great video!
What you are doing is great. A Big help for senior women. Thanks. God bless.
Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know and God Bless you too!
Awesome
Love this video!❤
Glad you liked it!!
I totally fail to understand the widespread hatred of capri length pants. I love them. I think that leggings outfit looked better with the shorter ones.
I’ve been wearing hip hugger bell bottoms since my teens (in the 60s) - embroidered ones. I love them 😍 I love wide-leg pants period - palazzo pants are so much more comfortable. I hate narrow leg pants on anyone who’s not a string bean.
I am a Winter - haven’t changed. I’m a witch too so wear black a lot. However deep jewel tones look good on me.
That slingback trick is awesome 😎
Never have worn black except as jeans or a skirt. Has always washed me out. I LOVE my capri length pants. Most of my height is in my legs and somehow THEY have remained thin and toned. ONE blessing at least as I did go white haired by age 30. Nearly 70 and ageing is nothing to be look towards. Fact is we have zero choice. Enjoy what you have when you do have it. Dressing like my 30 year old grand daughtter would be beyond foolish
I always hated the skinny jeans on anyone . Heavy women look heavier and thinner women look like toothpicks. I love flared pants that balance the upper body and hips.
I loathe capri pants, not just for myself but I can't stand to even see them on other women. Capris are the standard Old Lady Uniform, you never see anyone under 50 wearing them. It instantly makes you look like a frumpy older woman, there just isn't any way around it. But I know some women love them and will never give them up, so who is anyone to tell you not to wear them if that's what you want. 😏
@@lisalu910 I totally disagree about capris & certainly know young girls who wear them. But yep, people can wear whatever they want.
@@Diana-yn2ho I’m not tall & thin, & love bell bottoms lol.
That bomber jacket is perfectly on trend.
Thanks, I love it!!
I'm a natural redhead who now has gray hair. I had colors done back in the early 1980s, and I was a purebred autumn. However, now with my gray/white hair I look much better in jewel tones. I still don't wear red, as I don't like it, but I now wear more purple than I used to, and I've started wearing dark pinks. I've also never been able to wear much makeup as I'm very pale, and no matter how light I go with makeup I always look like I troweled it on. However, I feel that I look better now than I did 20 years ago because my attitude toward life has changed so much.
Thanks so much for sharing Cynthia!
I will wear what I like thank you very much.
How about people lose weight instead of ways of hiding it. Also ask your hair stylist for a better cut. I've looked you up for modeling. What agency were you with and what did you model and how long ago?
Nice video. Thank you. I have no show socks they have a rubber backing . I wear glasses so I like to do my eyes. My favorite jeans are dark Gloria Vanderbilt they fit hips and smaller waist.
Sounds great, thanks for sharing!

That tip about the no show socks is gold!!! I did not know what I was going to do, the socks always slipped off my feet. I was thinking I would have to wear a pair of anklet socks that will show. Thanks.
You are so welcome, my feet are a size 10 and the socketts don't fall off anymore!
I love the purple on you!
Thanks Nancy!
Unfortunately when it's cold out, those no show socks don't keep you warm.
Agreed, all that black is so unflattering. Add some color for looking alive!
Its such a relief not following fashion, no make up, comfy shoes or tight bras....sorry you just popped up randomly however love getting dressed up for the opera and that special date...77 yo having a blast with NO MISTAKES....
Hi.
Your video just popped up in my flow and now I am a subscriber from Sweden. 😊
Being 57 yo, curvy and getting more and more silver strands,
I agree with you in full.
Imo it is important to wear colours that suit your skintone/is flattering, not only "hide" in black, because it's always "safe" - and easy.
Feature enhancing make-up that gives a bit "pick-me-up" on a dull or hard day is something I always do.
Taking care of the hair is also important, getting regular hair cuts and nourishing masks, since grey hair is a bit more fragile. (Perhaps a video idea for you - how you take care of your lovely silver hair, with tips of good products - if you haven't done one already.)
Love that you referred to your grandmother - mine said something similar. 🙂
She taught me about style and make-up and how to look and be stylish even if on a budget.
It's beeing cohesive in colours, prints and lines of clothing, putting an effort in finding out what's most flattering for your body shape (in different stages of life, throughout our development) and use make-up based on occassion. Simple "rules" of enhancement.
She also said:
"When you feel lack of energy, take that little energy you have left and do something for yourself - take a bath, put a little make-up on, comb your hair and put on flattering, but comfy clothes, even if only being at home. Then look yourself in the mirror and stretch up. This will give you more energy." I have done that all my life - self affirmation.
It works for me.
All in all - love your message about getting older is a beautiful thing! 🤩
Have a lovely day. 🌺
Wow! Welcome and thanks so much for your inspiring words!
I live in Florida where bright colors are the norm, and I love that. But when I visit family in the north, I slide back into grey and black. It's a struggle and actually seems to affect my mental state.
I think drab colors do that to me too!
Awesome tips thank you so much Heather.
You are so welcome Sharon!
Love all of your videos and your sweet personality!
What a lovely thing to say, thanks Lenore
Interesting tips. Like the pacing and delivery!
Thanks so much!
Capris don’t cut you off at the widest part of your leg, unless your calf is wider than your thigh!🤣🤣
You make a good point, I meant the showing part
These suggestions are very helpful. I found myself in the don’t - do sock categories. Thank you
Glad they resonated with you!
Never mind the clothes how about the long hair now that's very ageing for the over fifty's
People need to dress accordingly to what is comfortable
