  • Amazing Hanoi Train Street
There is a spot near the gates where you can film into the street without putting yourself in danger of being hit by the train as there is space to stand back from the railway line.
The only passenger trains that pass along there are those heading to and from Sapa and Haiphong, the rest head south.
The Sapa trains depart and arrive during the hours of darkness, so no good for photography.
Trains for Haiphong from the main station leave at 06:00, 15:20 and 18:00, and inbound ones travelling in the daylight reach the station at 11:30 and 17:20.
A number of goods trains pass through there during the day, but do not to seem to conform to a fixed schedule.
The best place to photograph them and the houses flanking the line is not near the station but along a stretch somewhat north of the station between Dien Bien Phu and Nguyen Van To off Phung Hung. There are ungated crossings at Dien Bien Phu and Tran Phu where you can turn off and follow the line. There is no danger of being hit by the trains as they travel slowly and you can stand far enough back, but you will be deafened by the constant blaring of their klaxons warning residents to get off the line!
