If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbitl in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.

That's fairly normal. I myself thought the university library more useful than most of the coursework on the finance major.

It's funny how sometimes out of an entire book or video there will be a tiny detail that sticks with you: the quote "money is here to buy you optionality, do not trade optionality for it" was it for me. I'm still digesting and thinking about that and honestly could watch an entire video about it if you dove deeper

Quick note, tax shelters for reducing CGT on sale of business are very valuable. While you are a accruing “non-taxable” growth on EBIT valuation multiples you should definitely have pre-planned what jurisdiction you have your ownership/equity located. Not necessary a full blown tax haven like Seychelles/BVI etc but at least factoring in tax efficiency exit structures to maximise those eventuating gains on sale is prudent. P.S Big props to Alex - love his energy, just wanted to add this input to the mix in case it’s helpful to the community.
He answers that around 9:25 - worrying about tax savings is not what billionaires think about “if you’re worried about taxes, you’re not making enough money”
That's not a tax shelter as much as it is smart financial decision making about how much of a "paycheck" you make when you sell. Selling on annuity is a highly intelligent tax decision to diminish both your CGT and your income tax bracket. Business owners are shocked when I show them the numbers.

As a former tax accountant I agree with yours points that tax shelters cost more than they save. This was part of the reason why I left that industry long ago.. I try telling people this but they still these hotshot accountants are genius and can’t be challenged.

I’ve been a tax CPA for 25 years and this is by far the best tax related CZcams video I’ve ever watched. Can’t tell you how much time I spend shooting down tax scheme solicitations, or just convincing clients it’s legit but not worth the time/cost/exposure. Max your retirement plans, max your depreciation, defer your gains using common tactics AND save your energy and time growing your business. Wish you were my client Alex ….maybe could’ve had you seeing the light at only $500k in fees!

You mention moving for tax reasons. A good example is Joe Rogan. He was in LA with tons of celebrities are also located and added a ton of scheduling logistics headaches causing the percentage of grifting sales guests. He's traded quality of his show for tax gains.

Love this ! I did use "international tax saving structures" not cuz i was trying to save $$ on my Canadian version of a W2, but because my accountsnt told me I might get in trouble with the foreign countries i was legally working in, and while we are at it, let's make it so that I'm save some cash if I'm gonna be in this bureaucratic mess. There is a lot of upfront costs for "discovery", upkeep etc. I did end up on top, so cashed in savings while reducing my risks in regards to foreign tax authorities...but it came to a huge emotional and time cost.
I read this yesterday and it opened my eyes: *A lot of people think that specific techniques or working harder will lead to manifestation of their dreams & desires, but in the end it’s always your concept of yourself that you accept and assume to be true that is responsible for what you experience.*
I really appreciate you sharing these valuable insights, especially the ones at the end. "Everybody gets taxed 100% in the end". One that I came up with is "Knowledge is learning from pain. Wisdom is learning from someone else's pain." Thanks for all the wisdom.

The loophole that works best for Americans is getting a citizenship in another country. Getting a residency permit in the UAE. Renouncing US citizenship, and setting up a company that operates in the UAE. If you don't want to live in Dubai, then the Cayman Islands would be your next best bet, or the BVI -if you can get banking. Aside from that a company formed in Cyprus with management and control in Costa Rica might do you well.
If you want to operate in the US, then a C-Corp with plenty of 1222 Stock as the founder, and re-investing and deducting as much as possible into the company is the best tax savings plan you will have in the US. Deduct every penny the business earns by hiring new sales staff, building new physical plant and writing it off, writing off any interest on money borrowed to build out the business, and then when you sell the company sell your stock and take the $10 million per year exemption on capital gains for 1222 Stock.
See this just proved Alex's point. The UAE literally TODAY imposed a corporate tax. The day after I wrote this. Forever the UAE was a tax haven with a 0% tax rate, but no more, and you cannot get effective banking in the majority of jurisdictions with a 0% headline tax rate.

Alex, the Captive layer saved soooo....many businesses during the pandemic. Groups of mom-n-pop dental offices, construction companies, and so many more. I saw that with my own eyes as a Captive Accountant. The only thing it could not save was many of our jobs 😂😂😂

Question: although the increase in the value of the business isn't taxed in the year that it appreciates, you'd still have to pay tax upon the sale of the business, correct?
That's when the use of a trust comes in handy .
YUP, sadly that is why the title of the video makes it click bait. IMHO for all the wisdom that has been given in the video, it fails to fulfill the promise of the title chosen. It is so beneath the values of the author. :(
@@jonnyde Yeah I feel that way about a lot of entrepreneurs' content. There's usually a catch somewhere or something they're conveniently glossing over. That's not to say that this content isn't worth the watch anyway, just that I wish content creators would be less clickbaity and not use misleading titles.
