*Container Gardening Zone 5* . In my younger years, tending to perennial beds was a joy. I'm currently 57, and while still capable, I've embraced container planting for ease of maintenance. For my cottage style garden, I stay within a very tight color palette, pink roses and hydrangeas are my jam. I do Boston ferns in urns depending on my mood for the year. I winter my planters in the garage. In Upstate NY, Spring weather is sketchy. The end of April is usually safe to bring the girls out of the garage. I have seven of the same style containers at ground level flanking the front porch and two slightly smaller versions at the stairway/entrance. I add in annuals to the main porch area for additional textural greens and color. This "method" has been a huge time and energy saver for me, "No Weeding". As for porch furniture, I have a set of swivel rockers from Better Homes and Garden circa 2000 something with a round table covered with a coordinating fabric to the chair cushions. I always include inexpensive throws and lumbar pillows (my porch is covered). I have a small lighted bubbling fountain in one corner, and solar lighting with a flickering flame effect. My collection of Woodstock Windchimes create the perfect subtle background noise. You don't have to break the bank or your back to have a stylish outdoor retreat. Thanks for sharing you tips Suzanne!

Just a note on boxwoods…if you ever want to remove an established plant,it’s a complete nightmare. Their roots go for miles. I will never plant another box wood as long as I live
