Haha guys come on he sounded plenty good enough, his own solo was not at all what was most important- I for one am just happy that someone as famous as him used his fame platform to promote some real jazz and showed genuine passion for the music and that jazz is cool. It was about getting jazz in the public eye. And the haters are being overly critical- He never claimed to be a pro- in his own words he is "a humble student of jazz" just learning and trying like the rest of us. Jazz piano is really hard and for even a confident character like Goldblum, getting up there with these studio musician pros as an intermediate or novice level player can be really really intimidating. Even though he doesn't have high level technique, I think what matters was that 1-the left hand comping showed he clearly knows the changes and 2- he played with solid groove and time and only played what he actually seemed to be hearing and feeling for real, not some contrived pre-prepared lines. He wasn't afraid to try and reach for some outside notes, and played in time regardless of what he landed successfully. People would be a lot less critical in the comments if this was just some random college student. Jeff doesn't claim to be anything more than that piano wise.
He uses a lot of what could be "Herbie Rudiments" in his playing. You can hear he has listened to Herbie but with his limited technical ability he alludes to Herbie's style in very Goldblum type of way.
I agree with you! In some other videos, his playing reminds me of Monk as well. It’s nice that despite his limitations he’s still able to sound like himself (Besides, we’re talking about an actor here, not a professional musician)
Listening I can't decide if he can't really solo or if he's just being tasteful. I think it's a bit of both. At any rate it sounds very nice and I'm sure it's a fun evening.
Sounds like most with the title "triple threat". Basically actor dancer singer rolled into one lol. I saw loads of these performing arts types at college thinking they were musicians but really were just dancers and actresses lol
@@Yourbankaccount you get over it. Literally crying in the youtube comments because someone prefers a different sound. People like you always make me laugh 🤣
Note: I forgot to put down a D-7 at measure 7. Hope this wont be a problem since almost everyone knows this tune :)
This so Great thanks dude
This is brilliant. Thanks for transcribing. And for the info D-7 in bar 7. I hadn’t noticed. 🙄
He was so preoccupied with whether or not he could that he didn't stop to think if he should.
Seriously though, pretty hip lines
Omg! Is there anything Geoff can’t do? Love his movies & shows! An all round gem of a lovely talented larger than life dude!!!
Mr. Goldblum plays beautifully i love all of his music !

Well, his playing is better than Herbie's acting.
😂
You’re not wrong lolol
😂😂😂
Thanks! I was listening to this cantaloupe performance for hours on end. This makes things so much easier. He is such an inspiration
It’s the best sounding impro on cantaloupe I’ve ever heard. So cliche-free.
In jazz improvisation, even 'wrong notes' are 'right notes'!❤❤❤
That guy does a really good Jeff Goldblum!
That jazz guitarist is my professor and an amazing player! John Storie!!
Great, thanks for transcribing. This is actually a quite nice solo not virtuoso but tasteful imho 😊
Well said! Yes, not virtuoso but tasteful. With a nice band, his ebullient personality, the whole thing comes off as a pleasant experience.
Can we get a pdf of this to print
Did Glodblum improvise that solo?
Hahaha yes, without a doubt
Not bad actually

Bro, have some self-awareness

Silly Dan Schneider, Jeff Goldblum is from the dinosaur movie, not a jazz musician. Silly Dan...
Awful

I won't even call this awful. He lacks technical facility but this isn't bad at all.
