  • Are Eye Floaters normal? Eye floaters commonly develop as we age and are usually not considered sight threatening. Eye floater symptoms may include moving spots in your vision and flashes, blurred vision or even complete vision loss in the event of a retinal detachment. Thankfully, eye floaters often improve on their own, otherwise floaters may be treated with a few surgical procedures. Learn about eye floater treatment here • Laser Surgery for Eye ...

I ate pineapple, including the stem, and either that improved it or the brain adjusted to it, though they were quite pregnant for years and then after a few months eating the pineapple stems, it got better. For everyone who has eye floaters and are currently in panic: keep on reading.
I first encountered floaters when I was about 19 but somehow they moved out of my field of vision, then at 27 I suddenly had a bunch of them. At that time I also had bad anxiety, stress etc and I couldn’t stop looking for the floaters that it became a daily obsession. But: I overcame it. It WILL get better! Try to find the core of where the anxiety comes from, maybe with a little more help like therapy or someone you trust to talk to. Strangely, I still have floaters but I barely notice them because I’m not scared of them anymore. The mind is the magic! If I can do it, you can do it too!

@lenmancan the doctors are clueless too... they said it could be ageing, trauma to the eyes, anything literally. I had 0 causes. However, I did have a panic attack once or twice before noticing symptoms . I don't know if they are related. But the doctors brushed it off, saying it's not. But I'm not even 30, no known family history too. I'm not sure if there's a brain eye connection. I indeed was overthinking, and my mental health wasn't the greatest. Also, I started having an eustachian tube blocking on off in ears. I feel they all are connected, but doctors weren't curious enough... they just cared about treating to not lose sight, but not about the quality of vision dropping. Sad! I guess it's just my luck not to get a proper caring doctor who would show involvement. They just did laser barrage surgery and reassured me every time I went there. The floaters have stabilised but haven't gone. I'm trying 3rd eye chanting and trying to keep away from screens. The body should be able to heal itself. The science may not be aware of yet, let's see.

A few years ago I suddenly had a massive increase in floaters, mostly black dots. I ignored it as previous floaters had mostly cleared on their own. A little later a "curtain" appeared in my top vision. After a while it got worse so I saw a NHS Optician who sent me straight to hospital as he diagnosed detached retina. The hospital confirmed this and said if they didn't operate that day I could go blind. They fitted me in and worked for 3 hours under local anaesthetic sucking out all my vitreous humor and replacing the retina which had a hole and a tear as well as the detachment. I had a pressurised gas bubble inserted to hold the retina in place and for 2 weeks had to lie with my head in 2 positions only to prevent the retina lifting. I was allowed to stand up for 10 minutes each hour to eat, wash etc. The bubble took 3 months to disperse before I got full sight back but with some after effects which took a good while to improve. 2 years later the other eye went but even worse requiring more ops, 10 hours in theatre all told.
Thanks to the skill of my surgeon, I have pretty good sight, without him I surely would have been blind.

I have had floaters most of my life. Annoying, but not terrible. This Tuesday afternoon at work, I suddenly started seeing flashes and trailing lights on the periphery of my left eye. After going to the health center - I work in a large retirement community which has great on site health care - I was sent to the ER of the local hospital. But mostly due to my elevated blood pressure. I work in the kitchen which should explain that, lol. Got a cat scan and various blood tests which all came back fine. Went on line this morning and found my symptoms fit "posterior vitreous detachment". Turns out they are extremely common as you age. However, in a small percentage of cases, they can lead to a retinal detachment. I have an eye doctor appointment tomorrow. I really feel like this is what has happened because usually when I look away quickly, I can get a big eye floater to disappear off the the side or below my vision. Now when I do that, I can see it go down, then turn around and come back. So the space it is floating around in has been reduced. Can't wait to find out tomorrow! Lol.

My optometrist has warned me for years that I was at risk of a detached retina due to myopia and advised the warning symptoms.
When overseas in July this year I suddenly developed a large number of black dots which obstructed my vision. I found an eye hospital in Hanoi which performed a laser repair of a torn retina. The Vietnamese opthalmologist advised that it would take months for the floaters to go away. They are no longer black because the blood has dispersed but still extremely annoying, causing eye strain if driving for more than three or four hours.
The repair checked out OK when I returned home in August and returning for a checkup next month.

I just wanna thank you so much for this video which eased my nerves big time after googling some of my eye symptoms which include eye floaters which I started to get a few months ago right before my 25th birthday, and a month ago my vision started to do bad with bright lighting and it’s hurting my eyes to drive and to have to focus on too many things at once also. I have an appointment tomorrow morning but this made me feel a whole lot better about saving my vision cause I’ve been freaking out this past month. Thank you and god bless you Dr.

Stop to saying they are due mostly to age!! it started when I was 14 and this rot has only increased. However, I am not myopic and I live healthily. just anxious and spending time on screens.. so there must most definitely be a link! Medicine seriously needs to look into this because I can no longer count the number of moments wasted because of the embarrassment and stress this has caused me. today at 24 this crap has increased enormously in 10 years! there hasn't been a single day when I haven't thought about it mostly since about 2 years where I've seen a clear increase.. yet I've done all the possible exams and the retina is apparently ok. doctors say that with time you get used to it but the proof is that no, I never really managed to get used to it except at the beginning when I had much less. I think that at a certain stage, habituation is impossible!

I really did not want to relive the situation, however; I did open up about being a Survivor of sbs(shaken baby syndrome). My Dr said, “after what I saw in surgery, you are incredibly blessed to have not had a retinal detachment.” I am so thankful. This will be lifelong care of appointment’s every 3-4 months. I am EXTREMELY NERVOUS as I went to my Ophthalmologist just three days ago for seeing lightning bolt flashes in my left eye with no added floaters or vision change to my already very astigmatic eye. I had them start before Christmas. After examining me, he said that he did not see any retinal detachment and the pressure in both eyes was OK and it was probably just a tear in the vistrous(spelling?) membrane due to age. I am getting close to 60 now. He said to return in about a month if I still had a problem. The flashes were subsiding, I told him, for about a week now. After waking up this morning, just three days after seeing him, I noticed a dark floater building up in the bottom right corner of my left eye. Now, about 20 or so hours later, there is a LARGE amount of the gel-like fluid floating around almost half my eye sight! It appears that a LOT of the fluid had leaked out into the corner and bottom of my eye! Also, my vision is now duller/cloudier. I certainly doubt that a "floater" of THIS magnitude will improve on its own and I do not know what can be safely done on my eye. I can only think maybe YAG laser, which I do not know if my insurance will cover or the surgery that removes and changes the fluid in the eye. Most doctors shy clean away from that procedure because of the possible complications. That surgery makes ME VERY NERVOUS as well! Any ideas before I go back to see my eye doctor? Anyone else ever have this happen on a similar scale to mine? I am using a patch on and off today because it is VERY disturbing and plain SCARY! 😵

I do have eye floaters but one day while walking suddenly had several large bee size floaters. It was actually kind of frightening. Went to the optometrist that afternoon and he checked the back of the eyeball with an amazing piece of equipment, torn retina. Went to the ophthalmologist the next day and he confirmed the diagnosis. Off to the adjacent room and had my retina "spot welded" to the back of the eyeball. Recovery time from the sore eye took a few days. It all happened very quickly but my eye is good now.

Let's say my new one, it smaller then the width of my pinky-top when stretching my arm forward and looking at my Pink. Then I would say about halve my pibk width. 😅 Size is difficult to explain

1 yes, since about 7 but has ramped up since i was around 44 /45
2 sometimes. Mine are mainly dark blobs so are worse against pale backgrounds and can be confused with flies / bugs. Some days they bother me more than others.
    3. Yes have a history of retinal tears & other problems in both eyes. So do get flashes from time to time still. Routinely checked by my optician every year, but haven't needed to have checked by opthalmology for a few years now 🤞

Yes, they came on all of the sudden during a bike ride and I thought they would go away on their own. After a few weeks when they were still there I got concerned and saw an eye specialist who found a small tear that required laser work to tack it down. They have improved some since the laser procedure….it’s been about 3+ months and I guess I’m getting used to living with this condition. I’ve also been using warm compresses, Bruder eyelid wipes and spray along with no preservative eye drops and AREDS 2 eye supplements. I also eat some fresh pineapple every so often 😊

When i was in my 40's, it started feeling like sandpaper was scrapping my eyes everytime i blinked. Went to my eye doctor who rolled my upper eyelid back using a Q-tip. He saw lots of calcifications underneath my lid. He used tweezers to pluck them all out. They looked like little grains of sand. Whewww, felt so much better afterwards. Under eyelids smooth again. Doctor said some people just get these deposits under their eyelids, there's nothing you can do about it except have them removed by a optometrist or ophthalmologist. Hope this helps.

I have seen three ophthalmologists (and one senior resident). They advise acceptance as I am 68 and have been nearsighted since I was 12 years old. Two surgeries are apparently available but all advise against because often there is no improvement or vision gets worse.
Yes they do bother me. The docs apparently considered the condition trivial and dismissed me.

I have green eyes with a small brown area that encircles my pupil. It’s become more prominent with age- I’m 55. When I was younger my eyes would change color all the time, mostly around that time of the month

Doc I’m 14 and I have a lot of floaters but no flashes or loss of vision. Is that normal or something to be worried about?

Hey thanks, there can be many causes of eye floater symptoms, from benign reasons with no consequence to serious medical conditions. I wish I could offer more help but it will be best to have an eye exam and get things checked by a doctor.

    I have floaters
They don’t hurt me but it’s like a blurry little shadow moving down
I’ve seen a doctor but I had them at a very young age, will I go blind? And this happens when I stare at something or like at something bright when I go outside. I am also nearsighted

I used to see them a lot as a child after a major eye injury. But I had totally forgotten about them until you mentioned them. I haven't really seen them for years.

I have eye floaters that have gotten worse in the last year. I had seriously declining potassium starting summer 2021, & started passing out every few days, & hitting my right temple. One time I passed out & hit my right temple/above temple against a table leg. I almost immediately saw a dark red circle around almost the outer edge of my vision. I was afraid that I had detached my retina, but I was slowly dying & didn't know it, & couldn't do anything about it.
After a few days, the red circle started turning black, then it broke up. More floaters.
I experienced lots of blurriness & feeling like I couldn't clear my vision while in the hospital & rehab for 9 months. Nothing helped, not even Systane, which usually does help my dry eyes (I also have blepharitis.)
I finally got an eye exam with the facility's consulting eye doctor. She told me I have a small cataract in that right eye, & that she couldn't find any problems in the eyes other than the cataract. I was also CT scanned in the hospital & didn't hear of any issues in my head.
    I'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

I do have em, they bother me a ton and I have a good amount. I've seen an ophthalmologist twice... Both different ophthalmologists who both said, there's no way any doctor would be willing to perform a surgery unless it was a medical emergency and that most other reasons, they saw as irrelevant.

One day a year ago I started to feel dizzy/lightheaded. Then started to have horrible fatigue and ache in the back of my head along with dizziness and trouble focusing. Could hardly drive or go to the supermarket as we have horrible pressure in my ears and brain fog. Driving was like I was out of my body, very dangerous. Then I developed eye floaters all of sudden. Symptoms have gotten slightly better but floaters are bad and eye doctor said nothing is wrong my eyes!? Ache in back of my head and general "out of it feeling" still there. Hate it

    2. They don’t bother me.
    3. No, but when I forget to take my Zoloft I get flashes and vision skipping as a side effect the following day.
