I did the same thing and reversed th r mount on my CMD mask. It has worked great. Even after taking a round directly on the lenses cover the GoPro never moved.
Both are great. Helps if you can try them on first... the EVS has a larger lens which is awesome. For me, I hate how it breathes and echos back into my ears when I yell during tournaments. The CMD fits funky and has a standard lens size. You have to tighten into your face but it’s comfy when done right. It breathes amazingly well, and no echo.
I love my HK GoPro mount. Didn't think it would be a big upgrade, but the aluminum and the threaded nameplate and mount screw have been way easier.

I’ve used mine 3 or 4 times and in three tournaments sliding and stuff and it’s been great.
EVS ($149 amazon) vs CMD ($129 amazon) which is the better mask.

Cheapy from Amazon. I won’t spend more than $20, they break too often. I think the brand was Kupton
