‎ Cory has made a LOT of changes to his urban fish farm, especially after collecting fish from Peru. Elmer the pig-nosed turtle has new tank mates, the mini pond totes are filling up with fish, and Lady Bird the Mbu puffer is going to be welcoming additional roommates. Cory also has some thoughts on the future direction of the Aquarium Co-Op channel and closes the video with a heart-to-heart conversation.

I realize this doesn’t apply to everyone but I love all of the stuff you do besides fish. Of course I love the fish stuff but I’ve also enjoyed learning about business and camping and cargo container prices and all of that. For me, I value learning above everything else. So even though I came for fish originally I always enjoy random new information and I find that the best creators follow what they’re passionate about instead of forcing themselves to stay in one area. I think that always makes for the most genuine and enjoyable content.

If you need to take a step back please do if thats whats best for you, you know people love you and appreciate all your knowledge. But remember how much aquarium coop has grown and all the amazing people you’ve added to the team. Maybe its time for videos that spotlight other team members and see what their day at the coop is like. Wish you the best Cory!

I honestly think there is a percentage of over thinking with the content and what the base of your fans would like to see. Which is separate from your burn out / lack of enthusiasm to do repetitive type videos on certain topics or questions. I think most of us are looking forward to updates, fish room tours, inbound shipment order videos. Maybe do a fan tank review series, fan problem video series where we can send videos in or pictures. Could even incorporate product review videos On really any product and a fan doing a quick video of how they use it. A lot of this can be vise versa where maybe you have local friends with tanks you can show off and talk about how they got into the hobby. Some hip fire thoughts.

For me my favourite videos of yours were the ones in your old fish room where you spoke about how to care for various fish for the hobby, the business, the breeding and the like. Not necessarily the fish themselves but it was really interesting hearing you talk about the little tricks and observations you have made over your years as a..."professional" aquarist, I guess? You didn't have to have a schedule or a specific topic. You were just showing us your fish, showing us what you were excited about, what you were going to try for the shop, what you were testing, "oh hey, this is a cool little thing we found!" style.
I've never understood folk who moan at CZcamsrs for not doing the same thing over and over, and actually get annoyed when they don't get _exactly_ what they want. I've seen far too many folk on this platform having folk tell them the same thing: do what's right for you, take the time you need, and if doing this isn't what you want or need, then we would rather you didn't and be _happy_

  • @nagetrutledge9916

Another thing I thought of is why I personally find value in ALL of your videos - you always explain the WHY of things, and you always give good analogies. It helps me understand what you're talking about when you discuss the business part even though I'm not a business person, and that keeps me engaged. Just make sure you never stop telling us the WHY of things and I think your videos will find success regardless of your direction.

I think we all do love the fish keeping but I totally understand Cory with the tiring repetetiveness. If I speak for myself - Cory, feel free to do absolutely whatever you want with your channel(s). At this point I am going to watch it because it's you and the other team members - people that I enjoy, not because it's just someone that talks about fish keeping. Love yay Cory
Let me just say I know you have a business.
And I have an interest in the fish “HOBBY” . So for me this is a mutual non-contract agreement. Because of you I now” keep “ plants too, after 40 yrs of only fish. But because you have helped my success I can grow my own plants. My advice to you is GROW YOUR YOUR CURRENT CUSTOMERS and WELCOME IN and BRING in NEW ONES.
I went from a 29G in Nov 2018 found you on CZcams
And now added 75G,50G,20G long all with plants. You showed me what you do and what I could try and ,should try. Buying fish is easy, keeping them is where it’s at.
Learning from others helps out. GOOD LUCK!!!

It’s totally understandable you’re feeling burnt out. It’s reasonable to take a step back and just reassess and resolve the burn out. You don’t deserve to feel like that. I’m really appreciative for your content. Whenever I google a type of fish, I always hope to see y’all’s website as a result and I’ll always choose that over anyone else. I hope the excitement for fish and aquariums returns to you soon, not so we can have videos constantly again but because you deserve to feel joy from the thing you used to love. Take care of yourself, sending hugs from Florida.

Thanks for the video cory! I do know that in my first year of the hobby I bought fish stuff at least every two weeks. Now that I have been in the hobby for a little while I look for certain stuff like new products to try out to see what makes my situation easier. I do order food and replacement filter media every 60 days. Basically I repeat order consumables but not new fish. I do order new products from you guys because I do like to support the small businesses. Also thanks for all you do cory and the people who work for the aquarium coop. I wish I could see a talking topic of the best products to use for beginning fish breeders, and also the best products to help making breeding easier like (fry grow out tank setup, filter choice, heater or no heaters, and products to help them survive if they are in a community tank breeding.) I have been around for a little on this channel I wish I had a little more in depth singular video of a rack system and how to build an sturdy rack so accidents are avoided. I wouldn't even mind a video on failures you have learned from, that you could pass down to us hobbyist over the years even like building our own fish rooms.

Very cool beta sign! It's good to see you and get the fish room update. Take care of yourself and Katie, that's the most important thing, and the business too of course. As far as ordering stuff, I have dogs, parrots, fish, horses and donkeys. For the house critters, I order/buy every 6 - 10 weeks, with the large animals it depends on the time of year. I stock up on a lot of aquarium supplies so don't need to buy every month. Thanks for the video!

Hi Cory and to Co Op team. I dont usually comment on videos and such but i just want to say how much of an inspiration you have to me and a little back ground behind this. I have been through some really shit personal troubles since I was around 17 (im currently 29), but no word of a lie its been on the up for about 18-24 months and its all thanks to you and your videos.
I started becoming passionate about fish around 7 years ago when i became obsessed with my partners father-in-laws fish tank, after buying the odd fish for his tank for about 6 months I bought a second hand 4ft aquarium which came with some fish including a large female Angelfish. I bought another angel at my lfs the next day who was huge! after a few months of the 2 angles being nice, one night i saw them spawning on the intake pipe, i will always remember the feeling i had when i saw it happening right in front of me, at the time i didn't really know how to cycle an aquarium properly at this point let alone angelfish were cichlids and how to spawn them haha.
The eggs were eaten overnight but more to the point i dived deep into the internet rabbit whole of learning to take care of and how to breed angelfish and other tropical fish, this lead me to you and the aquarium co op videos.
After a few years of being subscribed, learning from you and learning about how you made the aquarium co op, things in my work life took a sad turn and sent me into a low point as the job i was doing was making me be a person i did not like, this is where you come in.
Seeing your work ethic, passion for the welfare of the the hobby as well as the animals the sell, how you talk about how you run your business, how you treat your employees, the customer satisfaction the strive for, how you.... my god I could go on forever. This made me want to pursue my hobby (which at this point had become an obsession) into a career.
I am currently working a job part time and the other time working for myself as a aquarium technician, and I'm loving it! and the best part is I am in talks with a wealthy friend about him giving me the investment to start up my own store. I have also just started studying a degree aquatic biology and freshwater ecosystems a few months ago.
If it wasn't for your videos I wouldn't be here today. Thank you for everything you have done to improve the hobby as well as educate people and improve the welfare of thousands if not millions of fish.
So long story short as long as I can follow you through your journey evolving the co op into industry standard setters I truly believe it can be, I don't mind how you decide to go. I personally would love to see some more day in the life kind of episode, similar to your 1 hour fish room challenge but maybe following you throughout a day of business, or a day in the life of your employees like Robert or another one of the other staff at the store or warehouse.
Sorry for the long post and thank you so much again for inspiring me Cory and the co op team
(p.s. I kinda hope Cory reads this haha)

I think most of us would be happy with you putting out or live streaming just stuff you want to talk about whether it be about fish, the business, or whatever. You're good on camera and have a knack of talking in general and making things interesting which is why I watch, but if you're not feeling it I know I would just wait till you did and enjoying watching and listening. I don't think anyone can blame you for burn out and you're right you have covered the gambit of topics and there is a ton of info you and the team have provided that people can readily access with some due diligence. Anyway thanks for the transparency and letting us come along for the ride all these years. Look forward to many more watching the COOP grow!

I like to see a CZcamsr sit down and be honest with there viewers. As long as you are happy with what content you are putting out who really cares what that 1% has to say about it, I generally enjoy watching you and Dean advertise during videos!
I ordered some stuff for my Aquarium's 5 days ago, but roughly I would say I have to top up API, Seachem and foods every month. In saying that I do dose fairly heavy with plant nutrients, so who is to say if I followed the exact measurements whether it would be 4 times a year I purchase Aquarium related stuff.

Hi Cory, I thoroughly enjoy your live streams and listen to them often. I always learn new things when I hear them over again. When you share your thoughts about your business, ethics, fish, etc., we get to know you, and you are earning trust and customer loyalty, ie, sales. What I'm trying to say is that I think you can share whatever content you want with us and whatever makes you happy. You may lose a few viewers, but most likely, you will gain more in return because your enthusiasm will shine through if you are enjoying yourself. Just know that we all value you and your incredible vision. You've made this hobby more enjoyable for us all.

I got back into the aquarium hobby three years ago this month. I've ordered from the Co-op 25 times in those three years. Probably at least the same amount of times from other sources too including fish and tanks. More as I expanded the number tanks I got. This last year it had been outdoor ponds too so I needed new stuff for that. Now it's mostly food, ferts, and water treatment. I do still like trying new plants and products too if they fit what I'm doing. It's been fun.

Hey Cory! I understand "burn out" ... Been teaching for 27 years and trying to re-invigorate the "same old, same old" can be a challenge. I started watching you back in 2019 when I bought my first aquarium. I now have 7 aquariums - (Blue Moscow Fancy guppies, Tiger Endlers, Sunset & Bumble-Bee Platies, Florida Flag Fish, Siamese Algae Eaters, Rummy Nose Tetras Chocolate Gourami and Rasboras Maculatus)! I also have an Aquapponics kit... You have been my "staple" supplier of practical "dos and don't's" for aquarium keeping. I have really enjoyed watching you visit Dean and how you collaborate with each other on different breeding projects and expansion enterprises... Loved the trip to Peru as well... I'd be interested in other stories about travel, camping, pet-keeping - and expanind out appreciation of different bio-topes in Nature's Context as well. Travel can be problematic during COVID, but since very few of us have the opportunity to travel out into the "wild blue yonder" it's great to experience travel vicariously! Best of luck in your future expeditions and enterprises!

I enjoyed your fish room update very much! I understand people ask questions that have been asked a million times... i think many don't realize they can find answers by searching through your videos or others here on CZcams or on Google. Unless i can't find a variety of answers to a question i have, i will ask that question. I recently acquired limpets from a plant i bought. I did as much research as i could. I know they aren't going to hurt anything in my tank. I thought they were nerite snail eggs at first! lol

I have learned so much from this channel. I also respect your decision to do whatever it is that is priority in your life. I find myself not buying much stuff for my aquariums these days. I have four tanks, stocked, planted and pretty much all balanced out. I don't really need supplies on a regular basis. There are things on my wish list for these tanks but when I ask if it is a want vs. need... The truth is, without you (Cory and Co) my tanks would have never reached the state they are in. With that being said, I added on a room with cement slab floor that I intend on adding some tanks in the near future... Be needing some stuff to make that happen.
