This is incompetence all around by ATL. If they were in love with Penix they shouldn’t have signed Cousins for $100M guaranteed or they shouldn’t have drafted Penix. Now they have the number 8 pick or a $100M qb sitting on the bench instead of a top 10 draft prospect.
This is how bad ATL FALCONS organization is. 🤣🤣🤣 They're so confused doing what's right about rebuilding their team instead they throwing away picks and money like it grows on tree. That 180 mills could've help sign multiple FA players to the team roster instead they give it away FREE for Kirk Cousins. Idiot ATL Falcons organization decided to waste their 1st rd 8 pick on an injury prone college q.b. whose likely to sit on the bench for 3 years before he can become a future starter. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jordan Love wasn't that great in Green Bay during his rookie year while playing the preseason. What's next, given Jordan Love a huge contract after his second season which happened to be decent when his first year start was abysmal. GB just as bad as ATL. LMFAOO
I'm a Chiefs fan and I think it's a move which is smart to change Falcons culture. Smith was solid qb for the Chiefs. We drafted Mahomes and he learned how to manage a game to be a game manager as well as a star. Now Mahomes can be whatever we need to win. Falcons GM see this and is trying to recreate it. Will it work who knows, but he is trying to change culture so give a shot nothing else has worked.
2:23 - for Falcons talk
You think the Falcons give a fk what Kiper thinks about how they run their team? Lmfao
I just question the thought process of the Falcons. You use the 8th pick on a possible backup qb for 2 to 3 years who will then be around 27 years old. And one with injury issues in the past. The 8th overall pick?
In no way am I comparing Mahomes to Penix I’m just saying the method. The Kansas City chiefs had Alex Smith and were good and still traded picks 27 and 91 and next years 1st for pick number 10 to trade up and draft Mahomes. They sat him for a year and look how beneficial that was for him. Y’all’s grades don’t necessarily mean much until we see it played out.
Had the Chiefs JUST recently signed an aging Alex Smith to HUGE guaranteed money, coming off a major surgery AND given him a NO Trade Clause? There is a salary cap and there are 53 spots on the team. 50 million is 20% of the cap for the ENTIRE team for cousins. Cap is 255.4 million btw.
Never forget what Mel said about Lamar Jackson. King of Freezing Cold Takes 🥶
Wow its almost like these grades mean...nothing? 🤯🤯🤯
If Cousins were to win them a SuperBowl within the next 2 years then how would the Falcons justify getting rid of him and starting Penix?? That makes no sense
But do you really believe Kirk is a superbowl QB?
@@anquondukes2028 I don’t. But that comment Mel Kiper said about him winning a SuperBowl made no sense
How many QBs went from the late 20s through round 3?
If the Ravens did that move... Mel would be calling it the best move ever!
This is white guys ripping on black guys... nothing more.
My question is what about the OL most teams put their best OL on the left side to protect their QBs blind side which other than Miami your back up QB has the same blindside as the starter except Penix is left handed and if their RT&RG aren’t strong they’ll find out very quickly
1:19 every team looking for their AJ Brown
Thank the Falcons for giving us Newton in the 2nd
You're welcome
We got Penix we could give two shyts 💪🏾
Somebody finally said it, don’t matter who would have been our QB last year, we didn’t have a offensive line to block for Bryce
As a Rams fan, I have no dog in this fight. Look at things from the Falcons perspective. In 2023 half of the starting QB's in the NFL missed time to injury. I don't think Cousins is going to play every game of his contract. I don't see how anyone could think that. So, having Penix as your 2nd QB is a very nice and smart play. If/when Cousins goes down and Penix has to play, I really want to hear what all the talking heads say about having Penix as your starter. I agree they could have used immediate playmakers at edge and other spots, but you are much more likely to find those guys beyond the top 10 than you are a QB. Plus, it helped the Rams get Verse, so win win. 😆
If Mel absolutely hates your move that can sometimes be a great thing.....
The Falcons got the best passing in the draft, Terry Fontenot. He was passing on everyone 😂
I think the grade is generous from a pure objective prospective. He had Penix and Ruke were both overdrafted. Sometimes over drafting works (Chris Lindstrom is a star) and sometimes it doesn’t (EJ Manuel, the Raiders)
Some examples:
I looked and Mel gave us a B- on the 2021 draft , a class so bad we had had 3 losing seasons. That retroactively has to be like a C-D. 2020 draft class got a C from him which was fair given that 4 of the 6 picks were huge busts.
What's worse is hearing ATL fans calling into the radio program making excuses for the draft again. They will accept anything and they will get what they deserve.
Cousins won't be ready for OTAs. We don't even know what he's going to look like week1. He could go down like Rodgers did last year.
Penix will play eventually after watching behind Cousins OR he might even play better then Cousins and the Falcons cut their losses and release Cousins. Cousins' deal is basically a 2 year deal when it comes to guaranteed money. QBs are playing longer Penix will play plenty of years and Cousins is coming back from a ACL injury so you have a decent back up if it comes to that.
The problem to me isn't the draft pick. The problem is overpaying Kirk Cousins's contract.
How is Mel Kiper still listened to? He accuracy rate is terrible in his mock drafts
Look at what Philly did this offseason/draft then look at ATL. You really think they made smart moves? 😂 No Way
At least Carolina is giving Bryce some playmakers. It's not like they are making the playoffs this year anyways
Only reason these fools hating is NONE of their mock draft bull came true for the Falcons. 😆 Penix was the right move.
For over a year all y’all talked about was how Atlanta didn’t have a quarterback. Now they have 2 and y’all still ain’t happy.🤦♂️ I think it was a great pick!
Falcons should have traded with Bears for Fields then drafted Brock Bowers. Would of could of should of.
Why does Kiper still have a job?
Because he is better than you at his job
He invented the mock draft so don't think he is going anywhere
@@frankhortoniv3739 but he’s always wrong lol 😂
@@frankhortoniv3739 that man should’ve been fired along time ago lol
@@TsunamiSurf864 Sometimes the goal is to be less wrong than the others.
You’re rolling the dice on a QB who has had two separate ACL tears, and two separate shoulder tears.
That was 3 yrs ago, he ain’t get hurt while at Washington is all that matters
@@ItsKillaBouie “he ain’t get hurt”?!?!? How can you try to make an educated point when you can’t speak English? Read a book there dummy. If you tear one it’s only a 20% chance of doing it again. That’s for normal people, not ones that play football. Ask OBJ if you can tear an ACL twice on the same knee. lol,
Penix will be great and everyone will be focusing on the next draft. Quit crying
Stop they payed 180 million to Kirk
@@123shoshanwho cares??? Kirk cousins isn’t that guy. He’s a placeholder buddy
@@de5913then why’d they pay him 160 mil when that could’ve gone to defense
Kirk cousins isn't playing a full Season 😒
@maxhedrick311 they did for the rest of the draft, it wasn’t over after the 1st round
F- Draft grade gm should be fired immediatly
Well deserved. That was the worst draft I’ve seen in my 25 years as a Falcons fan.
The Kirk cousins signing was the worst Iv ever seen
The Peria Jerry draft?
Every single person I've seen defend this pick has been black
Dan Orlovsky did on several different platforms regardless what are you defending Kirk Cousins feelings cause he's white???
I don’t recall yall race baiting when Matt Ryan was the Qb tho
@@jmoney6244- makes sense you’d call Matt trash.. I’m sorry the white man has been getting you down your whole life.
And every person against it is white and only blacks in media sucking up…who cares??? Kirk cousins isn’t that guy. He’s a placeholder
I am white and have watched football for over 50 years. The move is awesome .Insure that massive purchase. Someone coming off major injury and you put all your eggs in that basket is crazy.
So what if he plays at 26 or 27 people forget Kurt Warner was 28 years old when he started his first season. No comparing penix and warner but the rams went on to win a super bowl and no one has any complaints about warner anymore.
Outlier, not the process
You take basically the only player in the 21st century for whom this worked and use that as your proof? REALLY?
@@professorwiggins3290 Did it happen or not? The main thing most are pissed off about is that the Falcons didn't do what THEY wanted them to do. Nothing new about that
The issue is wasting a top 10 pick on a QB that is both injury prone and possibly the 5th best QB. Wasting a top 10 pick for a player that may not start for 4yrs is actually insane lmao
@@professorwiggins3290 it doesnt matter people act like it hasnt happened or his age is the problem. You’re doubting Atlanta and there process before we even see what they can do.
*Even he didn't start until 27, why is that such a big issue?? Quarterbacks play till they're 37/38 nowadays. If the falcons get good quarterback play from him for 8, 9 or 10 years, then that is 100% a worthy pick. You'd be hard pressed to find a WR with consistent production for 10+ years in this league, even less so, a RB. The age thing isn't that big of a deal, y'all need to calme down about that.*
Because one of the big advantages to having a rookie QB starting is he's cheaper. You're wasting 3 of his cheap years behind Cousins, so when Penix does get his turn, you're gonna have to pay him. And QB contracts are only getting more expensive, which limits how much money you allocate to other positions. They have 3 1st round skill position players that are due for contracts on top of all that too.
There's a reason why these two don't work for NFL teams
Mel just hating that's all.
Yall just mad that the Kirk has to actually win or he'll be replaced by a brother.
Facts!
And it's obvious that you want the first all-black team in the NFL.
Or maybe we're mad because it's not fair to Penix? Don't forget to vote for Biden, or, ya know.
@@Celthor- voting for Biden is a low IQ move.
So u get a future Qb is bad ok lol
If DEI can ruin an NFL franchise.. what else can it ruin??🤔
Would the nfl negate the Cousins signing due to tampering and take their next years 1st thus making it a good draft pick?
Every single person I've seen defend this pick has been black. Coincidence, Atlanta....
And everybody that didn't defend it is white.. Coincidence..?
What are you going on about
Bc they have that white trash QB all that money and he’s not even good
Dan Orlovsky -- and I don't agree with his grades/assessments usually.
Dan fartlovsky is the only one who agreed anywhere
Blah blah... In two years everyone will say..Oh okay, we get it now... Cousins is not that good!!
true but i think whats bothering everybody is the money
@@swishboy00 Yeah. Never seen so many people concerned about the Falcons budget
@@swishboy00Also, Penix is 24 and ready to start! Now they're gonna sit him for 2 years!
@@swishboy00who cares it’s a 2 year deal.
Funny how people are worried about the money when it's not theirs... it's the going rate for a QB.
So if they signed Kirk for 35 million a year, it's OK? 20 million?
What's the number that makes it OK? Joke!
Mel kiper is trash
Inverse Mel for success: Falcons crushed it
This is a race thing
