I served in the British Army (Royal Military Police) and was posted to Catterick 150 Provost Company. I have never known such a group of outstanding soldiers, both off and on garrison. I don't recall a single incident of misbehaviour, but do remember them always being pristine in their uniform, even when out in Darlington. Major respect.

But Canada is independent now, only a member of the commonwealth. Gurkahs fight for and with Britain ,that is their choice to do so..originally they fought for the largest and most powerful empire in the world which later got dissolved. If Canada was still British or part of empire then Gurkahs would also be there. It's pretty much why the USA doesn't have any. And India only has some because Britain formed a Gurkah Indian regiment something that continued after Britain gave it back.

Most probably 20% are good enough but they don't have the places for everyone.

I'm sure apart from medical disqualifications over 80% of them have practiced and capable of passing all the physical tests. The physical tests dont seem to be the choke point, its mostly the written exams and the medical ones.

Well a 100 years ago women had no rights. They weren’t allowed to study much or get a real job. They had no human rights back then. Things are much different now isn’t it. My dad served in the British army for 20 years in the Queen Gurkha engineers and I grew up in Britain. Free healthcare, free dental care until the age of 18. I received a better opportunity in life than 95% of the people in Nepal. My cousins who’s18 are making 8 thousand rupees a month at his part time job. That’s 54 pounds. I make just under 2 thousand pounds a month in my apprenticeship at 19. That’s 291345.74 rupees in one month. I make what he makes in a month in a day. I brought a bmw at 17. He probably won’t ever buy a car unless he becomes a taxi driver. So there’s a big difference in how life was a 100 years ago and now.

If government were better, system were better ,jobs and pays were better in Nepal then no one would work their ass off to go abroad for better life for themself and their family. I will def recommend for all to go abroad and work for better life cuz i know Nepal system will nvr change..
