dude i literally heard him say this, scrolled down to read the comments, and this is the first one i see. what are the odds.
That last level was 300 second long. Sometimes he died on accident in 60 seconds. Usually he had died after 250 seconds. Lets say the average attempt length was 150 seconds. Since he attempted this level 64 times, that means he was playing this level for 2 hours and 40 minutes. If the average length was closer to 200 seconds, that would be 3.5 hours. And if it was closer to those 250+ seconds attempts, he would have been playing that level for 4.5 hours.
ryu please confirm how long you played that level

You forgot to account for load up time so add about another 15-20 seconds per life.

@@WesAddington He is usually only going to show attempts where he made progress or something noteworthy happened so you cannot extrapolate from data that is not a random sample.

Just experienced something really weird. I was watching the boo circles for a few minutes, then when I paused the video, I noticed that it looked like they were still rotating. It was like this weird optical illusion with boos. O_o
It's because it's a circle pattern, the perception gets like that after seeing it for a while, that's kinda how spirals work

In the second level Ryu, I think you were supposed to collect the coins with the buzzy beetle before you hit the p switch. That way after the switch wore off, you'd have a path to go through
I was so frustrated watching that part because it felt so obvious. I don't know if it's actually what you should do, but it looked like it.

I was looking for this last month as I needed a good laugh and this is the one episode I have never forgot...that pain...the angst...the patience..
Although it's surely annoying to play, the Ghostbuster level was a neat and simple idea. If the timer had been 500 seconds instead of 300 it would be a lot better, though.
it's the kind of level that forces some problem solving...
and then once you figure it out, is laborious as hell.

episode 100 of SE no skip should just be the endless challenge in SMM1, run through a super expert run, note how many lives you have, start the next one with that as you're new life total instead, and keep going till you run out of lives

Ryu is the undisputed king of Mario, but something that I feel doesn't get recognized enough is part of what allows him to wear such a crown is having the patience and dedication to beat levels like this. Excellent job Ryu, cannot believe you did it!

I seriously admire your patience. I would have lost it on that hideous ghost level 5 minutes into it. I thought one level that I saw EVW rage at was the worst ever, but that ghost one is seriously dreadful lol. Well done.
the key there was NOT to hit the blocks at "max jump" EVER, because those are the ones that could clip your feet. You kept getting greedy with your jumps, trying to kill more ghosts by jumping higher, and thus releasing ghosts that would force you to move before you had cleared yourself "headspace".
I'm very positive those max jumps were accidental (once he figured out his system, I mean). After hundreds of jumps, you're bound to make ONE max height jump accidently and fuck it all up.
The last level is the definition of the Super Mario maker 1 Junk. It is so different from SMM2 HOT garbage. Still so entertaining to watch.
levels like these are why SMM1 is goat status. You can't find stuff like these in SMM2. This video took me back to 2016.

watching the ghosts fly around in circles for a bit and then pausing the video creates the illusion that they're still moving
I feel like that last level is Mario Maker 1 personified, but infused with dangerously high levels of sadism.

I have the suspicion that that first level did not infact intend to be misleading, but you were meant to go forward with the "normal path", then acquire some powerup and you'd be able to revisit those initial rooms with new possibilities (for example a mushroom or a P switch in the beginning room to uncover the pipe with the blocks on top of it). Eventually you'd come back around to the room with the suspicious pipe and you'd be able to get there (presumably using i-frames). So essentially you just cheesed about half the level which is fair enough for you Ryu :P
