  • The Kayo Armory deck is the newest product for Flesh and Blood. Promising to be the best starting point to get into Classic Constructed, I take a look at the deck to see if it actually achieves it's goal, and to answer the question: should you buy the Kayo Armory Deck?

    So happy they nailed the main function of the deck, that it can actually stand up at an armory. I think that's the hardest part of the deck and the fact they pulled that off is awesome! Gives me a lot of hope for these decks going forward. While it is sad to see the limited allocation I definitely think it's a win for LGSs that do get their hands on them, because it means it's an in-demand product that isn't going to sit on their shelves without selling. I think this deck is accidentally too popular, because LSS couldn't have known Kayo was going to be as in demand as a CC hero when they decided to make this the first deck. I doubt there's going to be a similar shortage issue with Boltyn. But hearing that your local LGSs couldn't get their hands on this product is really crummy. :( thank you for this break down and your honest thoughts!

    This is a very solid and fair review on both sides. Thank you.
    One thing for myself, that I "missed" on the first-pass - was that there was only 1x of each deck RF. While not outwards an issue, it does push the constrained situation a little harder in some situations.

      This was something that bothered me a bit about the product, I prefer all non foil cards, so I had to then get 2 more non foil cards after getting the product. Minor thing though.

    New guy at the game store was looking for a new game and never played FaB, then asked if I could teach him. We played with the Ira welcome decks for an hour, then they bought the Kayo precon and joined the armory. They didn't win, but every game they got opponent to around 10-15 health.

      This. I don't think any existing player should buy this, but it makes a great answer for the "alright, I'm interested in playing this, what should I buy?" questions that keeps popping up in stores forever. I feel that they should bring out less blitz precons and more CC precons.

      Bringing players down to 10 is pretty good for a brand new player using a precon imho

    Our store sold them in person only 1 per player and they were 39.99 our store did great they are not even taking in any of the new cards the wont buy them

    Thing with sideboarding is that you already need pretty good knowledge of what is in your deck and what your opponent hero can do, which for a new player would be pointless to implement (I guess they could include a chart with specific cards to use against specific heroes). I started playing a bit more than 2 months ago, and it took over a month before I started deliberately sideboarding specific cards, and even that was just to counter dromai specifically.

    Our store got a case of these and they did very well. With a few small modifications(using only random commons from heavy hitters laying around the store) I managed to get second and another guy got third. It’s also very fun to play in my opinion.

    Our local store has a dozen gathering dust on the shelf. 45$, and all the locals who wanted one already got theirs.

    I am a new player. After buying two blitz decks and learning the rules, this was my first purchase (from my LGS!!!!). I really like it because it is incredibly obvious what it is trying to achieve, and all the cards feed into that strategy. When I get better knowledge of the card pool I'll look to swapping some cards but for now it made learning the game really easy. Compared to precon Commander decks in Magic, which often have cards pulling in different directions, this was really streamlined.

    My local LGS got 12 of them. Nerd Haven Abbotsford BC. I picked one up for the equipment. Deck looks fun to play. Paid MRSP so they are out there at a proper cost

    Being a starter deck, it really should sit on shelves gathering dust. This may sound counter to the goal of FaB, but that's kind of what starter decks are. Shelf fillers that new players can pick up whenever.
    I will admit though that the arguments against this thought aren't wrong. Having your product sit on shelves could be seen as a death sentence to a game. But, if the goal of the Kayo armory deck was "new and old players can easily pick this up," then you kind of have to expect a loss. The reward/profit comes when those new players buy other products to supplement their new endeavor into FaB.
    But, I'm not a tcg company from New Zealand, so I don't know what other restrictions can happen when it comes to worldwide distribution.

    • @ihavegotnoidea
      @ihavegotnoidea Před 2 měsíci +2

      The problem with that is that product is still purchased with the expectation of being sold and even if you gift them to the stores shelf and storage is finite. If you want to convince more stores to support the game, coming out with products that take shelfspace without generating revenue is not really feasible. But ehh what do I know

    • @supermarioblacktiger
      @supermarioblacktiger Před 2 měsíci

      @ihavegotnoidea that's true. Too many stores take losses from purchasing too much of a product that bombs. Take the yugioh egyptian god decks as an example. Arguably, it should be the job of the store to purchase the correct amount, but these can be risks. If it was any other company, it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't care that stores take a loss. But fab is different. LSS cares about the stores that sell their product.
      I do fear though that LSS is being too cautious with distribution and hopefully they up it a bit with the Boltyn deck.

    My biggest problem with this deck is how hard it is to get. It’s meant for new players, but everyone who already plays the game has already bought them all out locally. That’s a massive failure imo. Should not have been so limited

  • @thanatos8412

    Accessibility seems to be very random and might have more to do with distro policies than anything LSS did. The only local store to me that stocks new FAB product and fires 4 person armories a couple times a month got a whole brick of 12 decks and I was worried they would be stuck on the shelves forever. Turns out they sold out within a week even though AFAIK none of the local playerbase bought any so I am not sure who is buying them. Overall, I am actually glad it was rather limited because it would feel even worse for my small game store to be stuck with 12 decks they can't sell for MSRP and Kayo to LL within a few months. Maybe they limited the print of the Kayo deck to avoid an overstock and stores getting screwed when nobody wants the product when Kayo LLs.

  • @rgbcgroup

    I could get one for 42,50€ from a seller outside my country, but with 12,50€ shipping attached. (€ and $ are pretty much 1 to 1)
    Any other seller I can find offers it for waaaaay over MSRP (60-70 usually). Shipping not included in that price.
    Would you say it is worth the total of 55?

    to be honest, I think one sideboard it needs, is a set of nullrune and it's good to go. I can see "the new me" start the game, buy this product, and comfortably play with this in armory for like 3 months

    Nope, **I** should not buy the Kayo Armory Deck.
    Now, that Boltyn AD? 100% picking it up.
    (Warrior Main that has had Boltyn on my To Do List since deciding I Am a Warrior Main)
    The other thing about this deck is that KAYO is killin it this "Season"; dude pulled in over HALF of his needed LL points already.
    Sort of makes me wonder if LSS KNEW this was gonna be the case: Release a Strong Hero, make the new CC Pre-Cons of him, limit supply because they expect him to LL Soon(tm) and that way they didn't have an Unplayable Product on shelves.

    • @rpgfan12
      @rpgfan12 Před měsícem +1

      I really like that perspective as a new player with only one how-to-play CC format game under my belt. However let me expand on that a little:
      Say I buy this deck right after posting this comment. Kayo is halfway to LL. I jam a lot of games to get experience under my belt as a new player and in the next 2-3 months, I gain experience and some of the more high power equipment and staples. Kayo is maybe 80% towards LL, but with more experience under my belt I’m holding my own at my local armory. By the time I start to try and dominate the local meta, armed with more experience and reps with the hero, he eventually gets relegated to LL.
      By that point I would hope to have enough experience in the game to be like “lmao well that was fun, but now we have to play another hero” and suddenly playing other heroes becomes easier after now having more months of general game knowledge to bank off of.
      That’s some hook.

    I strongly agree, only thing I would add is that they should also make more of these, like release 2-3 of these so new players have options, I'm trying to start playing, but I don't really like brute so I feel kind bad if I will have to wait like a year to release a armory deck I wanted to play

      Seriously, the talking heads hatred for this, imho, really solid entry level product is baffling. Yeah, I understand wanting the extra value but imagine if they put beast or swing big in here? It would be even harder to find, and no one would sell it for msrp.
      And if you think about it, not having to immediately buy tunic, bone breakers, and cnc is like “saving” $400 for a new player. Thats a fantastic way to provide value to new players without making it even more attractive to scalpers

    I'm sorry humble as a good include? No this product is trash. There isn't a reprint over $1 and any value is driven by a few chase includes. It wasn't much to expect bloodrush and beast within in this and really swing bigs aren't a stretch. It's a disservice to recommend to new players over taking the same $40 and searching through singles for a budget version of any hero.
