    If you're a cheapskate like me, I use the back of gift wrapping paper I bought from the dollar store. I love it because most of it has a grid on the back with 1 inch grid squares, which helps with basic measurements

    Another inexpensive, heavy duty option is contractor paper. You can usually get 1 yd wide by 100-150 ft for less than $20 at someplace likes Lowe's

    Hi, I use brown paper in a roll that is used for party table covers. It comes in a 10 metre roll and I put 2 curtain hooks on the wall just under the edge of my cutting table. I then threaded a pole thru the paper tube and hung it on the hooks. When I push my table back the whole thing is hidden , then I just move the table and pull paper up and over the table ready to use.💜💜🇩đŸ‡ș

    You can put carbon paper under the pattern and transfer directly onto the cardboard
    Or use the prick and pounce method where you prick the paper and then use chalk, powdered chalk or even the marker or highlighter to draw over it so the dots are coloured in underneath.

    Use a roll of thick plastic sheeting . Sharpie friendly . Won’t tear. Lasts for decades . See through for multiple size marking .

    Hi, when using the tracing tool there is paper that goes with it to transfer the marks. As you run the tracing wheel over the lines the transfer paper creates a coloured mark on the paper.

      Hi Sonja, yes there's colored paper that transfers color onto the kraft paper. The stores I've been too only have select sizes which are all very small so if you can find colored paper big enough that's very convenient - otherwise use the tracing tool to mark the kraft paper and draw lines after.

      I've sewn for decades. Today's tracing paper isn't like the good stuff we used to get. I haven't used tracing paper in 20 years. A "needlepoint" tracing wheel makes marking the craft paper much easier. I use it to mark directly through the original pattern onto the craft paper and the needlepoint holes seem to do less damage to the pattern paper than the duller tracing wheels.
      Also instead of weights at this point (cans of food work if need be) a roll of green "frog tape" is great for taping all of the paper in place. It's identical to drafting tape which was used in the dark ages before Autocad, when architectural and mechanical drawings were done on a drafting table. Frog tape is in the paint department at Home Depot. The blue painter's tape is a bit too sticky. Green stuff is perfect.

    • @GloryAllan
      @GloryAllan  Pƙed 2 lety +3

      That works too 😊 If you want to keep your original pattern untouched though then tracing paper will facilitate that.
