    Thanks for the demo on how to take care of your Mercury 3.5!

    Great job you did. I have the same motor, but I noticed yours does not have a fuel pump and uses gravity feed to the carburetor. Mine has a pump and I plan to eliminate that as another potential issue.

    I have this motor. I believe the fuel shut off switch has somehow been turned backwards (the red handle should be facing out rather than in. I'll bet if you push it upwards and flip it 180 deg and set the inner switch back down on it that everything will be right.) Also, if you search there is a video on adding and external tank connection that works very well. I've replicated that on mine and with a 6 gallon tank I think you can run for 16 hours or something. It's a good modification.

    That was fun to see the oil shooting out of the plug hole, anyway you fixed it. 🍷🍺👍🏼

    I have the same motor....I stored it on the correct side....2 weeks later I had a oil leak when I went to take it out.....found that the oil leaked out of the air intake.....when I stored it it was just slightly leaving one way but completely correctly horizontal on the correct side......I dont understand how that happens even at a slight angle.....doesn't seem like a smart way to store motor..... Going to have to clean intake now.

    Does this engine also crank and start in forward. (No gear save)?

    So this engine has the Honda 2.3 type problem that oil runs out in the carburetor? I didn't understand, what does the red petrol lever have to do with the oil that ends up in the carburetor?

      @@MrMeltedwellies Why does the oil go back into the carburetor?

    • @johnnylong6289
      @johnnylong6289 Před rokem

      From a crank case vacuum tube that probably vents into the carburetor. I just stand mine up so I've never run into this problem.

    Don't forget to check and top up the oil.

    first - thanks for this video that gives me hope! I did a pea in the transport and there was an oil leak. now I have a problem with the ignition (Mercury 3.5hp 2020) - I start with the choke but after reducing the choke the engine shuts down. I can't turn it on without a choke?
    Is this problem solvable?

    • @johnnylong6289
      @johnnylong6289 Před rokem

      Mine is fine. Dont buy things used if the previous owner didnt know how to maintain something, whatever it is. Look around at their other stuff for signs either way.
