I was one of the puppeteers for the big T-rex for the final battle. It was my first job for John Buechler. RIP

2:56... Hey, that's ME!! I was a camera assistant for Concorde/New Horizons back then, and did a day or 2 of pick-ups and re-shoots for Carnosaur. It was really goofy.

if anyone is wondering a "short end" is the left over unused film from making a film, commercial, etc. A production will buy film stock upfront based on what they calculate they'll use and often they might not use a whole reel because its simpler to change to a new reel than film right to the end, so there might be a couple minutes of undeveloped film at the end of a reel and this left over cant go back to the developer so it often gets donated to film schools or bought up by low budget productions like Roger Corman.

Thanks for your explanation of what short ends are. I just heard him say it and wondered what they were.

Short ends are a nightmare for loaders and camera crew because they are often 'shorter' than advertised. They run-out sooner than expected, and if you have to do a quick re-take on a short roll, you can get screwed. Anyway, that is all ancient history now, with digital recording.

I love the way he’s so blase about the cheat techniques to get the shot - but it’s cinema gold what he’s telling here!

These are so much fun to watch! I love hearing stories on how they had to create and invent ways to get stuff done.

Stop Motion Makes Everything Better "TM". You have a totally different "sense memory" of movies that had it vs movies that didn't; Laser Blast. Q. Crater Lake Monster, etc. Years back I tried to explain this to a low budget film producer who was going with weak digital effects. I said, "Use stop motion on 50 careful shots and your film will have an audience forever. Use CGI on 400 bland shots and no one will remember your project." Guess which direction he went with...

I'd take Carnosaur 1 and 2 over these new Jurassic World movies any day.

Any idea what happened to the miniatures or the suits?

Both the miniature and the animatronic of the t-rex were rotten through the years, only a part of iron skeleton of the miniature is left.

They were reused for a bunch of other films to make good of the investment on them; besides the other carnosaur films they were used for Dinosaur Island, The Haunted Sea, and a Tarzan TV series.

So you mean to tell me they could've made the first carnosaur movie stop motion, but just didn't want to pay for it??? That's lazy af. The effects probably would've had a sort of charm to them, like a call back to king kong or gwangi valley. But they were unwilling to pay, so the staff had to work with what they had.
I guess it's still impressive considering they essentially had to improvise the effects

Carnosaur is great. It's better than Jurassic Park 3-6.
