I’m coming up on one year of IF and I’ve gone from just over 152# to 126#. I also implemented exercise in the form of brisk walking, weight and yoga. Finally, I did count and reduce calories in the early months since I already was not an after dinner snacker. I’ll turn 65 in a few weeks and this is he least I’ve weighed for over 20 years. I feel incredible. My husband introduced me to IF but you were the inspiration that got me to start. Thanks for that. As a side note, the nutritionist my husband follows suggests that menopausal women use a 15/9 window which is what I do.

Jennifer, after I watched your first update on your intermittent fasting routine I looked into IF and ultimately decided to try it myself. I only lost about 5lbs during the first year, but then I saw your interview with Dr. Tae on proper portion sizes. After seeing her visuals I was enlightened… I realized I was consistently tripling or even quadrupling my portion sizes.
So, I decided to start eating proper portions in addition to the 16-8 method. Well guess what? I’ve lost over 20lbs in 2.5 months. I’m shocked! I feel amazing, and I don’t feel like I’m starving at all. Like you mentioned in this video, once or twice a week I have a late dinner with my husband (still eating the proper portions though.) Portion sizes were definitely my barrier to losing weight. Thank you for sharing all your information. It really is life changing.

I've lost 20 lbs. Since I began intermittent fasting in April 2022. So I'm 120 now & I've plateaud so I am no longer losing weight, which I'm very happy about. I do "cheat" and have several glasses of wine at night. Some nights if my stomach is really growling I'll have a small bowl of cereal but I've found that most mornings after fasting 16 hours I'm just not hungry! I haven't noticed any of the benefits you've spoken of. Only the weight loss. Well...... I do sleep like a hibernating bear..... so that may be a benefit. I love your channel and the way you're modest and classy and home schooling your children. Govt. Run schools are the bane of our society. I've read and enjoyed your books and look forward to your next book. I love all thing French & Italian. I've been an "old fashioned" homemaking wife 48 years & I've loved every minute of it! I'm a nutritionist and I have counted your calories and you are low. 1100-1200. And lower protein, especially when you do your veggie meals. One day last year, I saw you only had about 900 when you had a veggie meal. For weight loss, it's never good to go any lower. I always wanted to tell you but thought it was rude to just throw that out. But since you asked . . .When you took out that cereal bowl snack, you basically reduced your calories by 300-500 calories, so I always thought your weight loss was more calorie reduction than timing. The timing helps create a hard boundary for you and it does switch your body into rest/heal. Also you eat super clean and that helps keep your liver able to work efficiently. I also agree with periodic fasting. Something interesting, health research sort of aligns with the biblical protocols of fasting in that it's good to fast a day or two a week, and maybe even for a month if you need to get over a health issue, but it's also good to have feast days too.

Let it be known that calories are for ppl that have lost their way with over doing it when feeling too full. I believe in the biblical days they didn’t have calories counted out for individuals. As far as being older and staying slim, you do have to cut back the calories.

@@lisaemery622 It's like anything else one does routinely. I can look at vegetables and tell if it's 1lb or 1/2 a cup. If one cooks regularly yes, it is quite possible. Which is why most women, decades ago, didn't write down a recipe nor did they need one.

I started intermittent fasting about 8 months ago for weight loss initially & it evolved to desiring a lifestyle change. I do one to two meals with one snack in the eating window per day & fast 18-6 or 20-4. I often do 18-6 on wknds. This has been a lesson in my psychological relationship to food, the healthy foods I love eating, why & when I am eating, my cravings, and how I approach social eating. I am still learning much about myself and I am happy in the process.

I am glad you have loosened up a bit in your use of intermittent fasting, Jennifer.
We're brainwashed as women from such an early age it isn't easy to have a completely healthy attitude to food. I do practise the method, introduced to the concept by one of your videos a couple of years ago.
Personally I like it, especially the not eating after dinner at night. If I feel . . . mmm, in need of something else, I eat fruit or make a cup of cocoa. I am 18 months away from 80 and have learnt that any rigid resolve about health is doomed to failure. It's very important to enjoy food. The type of food though, is critical to avoid obesity! BUT if you like cake (I do!) - eat cake (sometimes).
As for the timing, I have breakfast later than I used to, but I don't watch the clock or count how many hours till i can eat again. I think what you are doing now will work well. Extreme rules about ourselves aint gonna work long term. However, thankyou for your enthusiasm and commitment. It has certainly helped me to a system that is far more normal and good for you than crazy diets.

      @joantoplicar5086 Před rokem

I am 74. I enjoy hearing from Jennifer even though my life now is so different from hers. It’s interesting to see another older women here. I moved into IF slowly, and I do not find it difficult. A couple of years ago, I did a 28 day KETO diet which was good because I learned at this late age about the composition of what I eat. Then I came across Dave Aspry because the KETO book mentioned bulletproof coffee, and got into 12-12, and gradually came down. I can easily do only two meals a day now. I had Asprey’s Fast This Way book. He’s kinda extreme, but he suggests not being religious about a fasting schedule. Change it up! So I call myself an IFer, but I’m like you. It doesn’t bother me to go off script. Oh-I did lose a bit of weight. My concern is my blood work numbers. I am in the normal BMI range for my height. I am trying to get lower because it should improve my numbers. A nutritionist I consulted told me to eat more protein because of my age. I should eat three meals-I think to avoid too few calories. And that I should not go below 145 which is above the weight I maintained until I was 50.
Anyway, my main point is that we are all different, and we should pay attention to our own bodies and how they react. There is no magic and no yellow brick road.
And Jennifer, if you read this, I want you to know that I find your videos delightful.

This is exactly how I think about IF too! I feel great when I am doing 80/20 overall, meaning I try to do 16:8 at least 80% of the time but give a little flexibility when I am working out more or during that time of my monthly cycle. If I am really strict, I find it is easier to totally fall off when the holidays come around or when you have other times of life when eating the way I had gotten accustomed to gets more difficult. Thank you for the video!

Hi Jennifer! Thank you for this video. I have been doing IF for the past several months and have lost between 13 lb/14 lb. I had already lost ten pounds prior to starting IF. I am trying to lose between 12 to 15 additional pounds. I am pre-diabetic so I have to watch what I eat anyway. It's been a good journey so far. I had started a very small dosage of high blood pressure medication a year ago, and my doctor was so happy with my weight loss that she said that she might take me off of it completely. I like the IF method, because it allows me to eat a variety of foods. Thank you so much for sharing your story.

Great video and I appreciate the lesson on not being rigid! I stick to a 8-12 IF schedule and began a few years ago as a way to cure nighttime heartburn (probably age-related). The results came immediately and I’ve been able to make big changes in other areas of my life because if it. I’m flexible with dinner time- ideally eating at 5:00 - but if I’m really hungry at 4:00 I eat then and that’s it for the day. I say I eat at 5 -ish and hit that target most days. Not hungry for breakfast until 9-9:30. When I get inflexible about something, that’s a set-up for my failure. It just doesn’t fit my life. Thanks for the updates, Jennifer!

Thank you for sharing the importance of tweaking things. I like the scale and what details on water/hydration, etc it can provide in addition to weight. I'm not sure in my journey I would add on the tracking/caloric function. Everyone is different I know, but there is a sweet spot where I'm paying attention, but not sliding into obsessing about my tracking, but that's just me. I want to be very intentional about what I'm spending my time on, and part of my success with IF is that it actually got me to NOT think so much about things like specific calorie counts. It seems like it's working fine for you as well without necessarily knowing what your food has in exact terms. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe that is actually one of the healthiest things we can do.

Hello! I tried intermettin fasting by itself and it didn't do much for me as far as losing weight. I would be so hungry close to the 14 hr mark. Last year in October, I saw a conference talk by Mykelyla Peterson in which she spoke about the Carnivore diet and it inspired me to do a low-carb/keto diet. I began the Keto diet in October 2021 and have lost 20 lbs thus far! After the holidays I've incorporated more carbs into my diet but want to go back to eating less carbs. My ideal weight is 115 lbs and I'm excited to accomplish it this year. I also want to incorporate simple/effective daily excersises, something I can do with a mat and a few weights. After a few months on a low carb diet I've realized how many carbs I was eating daily and also how carbs negatively affect my body, especially wheat and tortillas. They cause a lot of inflammation. Thank you for your update and your meals through out your day.

Hi! I've been doing IF for over 4 years now. Listening to your body really is key. I walk and do HIIT training 3x a week. I do fast every day, and there are days when I need to eat more, but also days when I need to eat less. My body has continued to shed weight over time, and I am post-menopausal. I weigh now what I weighed in my 20s. I agree with mixing it up. However, because I've been in the lifestyle for so long, it's challenging to eat 3 meals anymore 😃I aim for 2 at least on holidays and am working on trying this once a week. Thanks for posting this update! We are an experiment of n=1.

American doctors recommend eating 5 portions of fruits/vegetables per day (which seems abysmally low) but I've read that the French generally eat about 11 servings per day. When I've done that, I've felt fantastic. It's easier than it sounds, especially if you focus on variety rather than portion size. If you're aware and playful about it (which I like to imagine the French would be) then it becomes easier and more enjoyable. 🍊 🍎 🍏 🍇 🍌 🍐 🥗 🍅 🥒 🥦 🫒 🕊 🌿 🌿 🍑 🥑

According to Dr. Attia the data is clear that intermittent fasting alone won’t reduce weight and it must be accompanied with calorie reduction. The reason it works for so many people is that they end up reducing calories. I’ve found that when I don’t eat anything after dinner and then eat a small portion with lots of water when I feel hungry in the morning then I am able to control my weight. Even through the holidays! I gravitate towards healthier food though so that helps as well.

I'm trying to bring down my carbs without drastically changing how my family eats as I'm almost done weaning my youngest and my carb needs are just not the same. But sometimes I do need more fuel! I need to listen to my body...within this guideline of what a generally healthy rule looks like. Which is different than caving to cravings, as you say. My favorite thing about IF so far is it does seem to actually limit my cravings. If I'm actually hungry then I most likely need food.

Jennifer, I have many times wondered if you ever loosened up your eating discipline for holidays, or some special occasion. This is all so interesting. I'm 67, and intermittent fasting didn't make me lose weight, but I never wanted to do it on Sundays or holidays; I don't know if that was a factor. But I recently began to be more intentional about each meal, trying to pay attention to how hungry I actually am and what my body seems to want at the moment. I am following the three meal a day and afternoon snack like you, and avoiding anything between supper and breakfast. But between supper and breakfast it may be 12 hours or 20, it doesn't seem to matter. I eat what and how much I seem to need at the time, and have been able to lose weight, after years of futility. I think I was eating too much before, even though I never stuff myself.
I used to think your portions were so small-looking, and then I started dishing out my own meals with attention paid to the amount I think I can eat, and no seconds. This has been a good idea! I've relaxed it during the Christmas season, and will try to be more strict during Lent, but following the liturgical calendar is also a good guide for me, I think. Anyway, I so appreciate all your videos on this subject over the past three years - thank you for sharing!! xo

Its like a mini fast between meals and helps all the hormones settle down. There was a book written awhile back by Byron Richards called Mastering Leptin. I've been doing IF for about 18 months and don't want to loose any more weight. I do vary my schedule now - sometimes I do eat breakfast and/or snack at night. It's just fine. Specifically, when I have a bad night of sleep, I tend to eat way earlier. It just feels better for me.

I make a lot of green smoothies with the same ingredients as Salad Power so I’m very interested in trying this product. I often add a protein powder to my smoothies. The one I like is by Sprout Living and it’s their Epic Protein Powder.

Could you share what type of physical activity you engage in with the IF? Thank you 🙏🏼

Hi Jennifer! I have naturally done the intermittent fasting approach for a few years now. After seeing some of your intermittent fasting videos, I realized this approach actually has a name lol. What you touched on today regarding changing it up once or twice a week has always worked very well for me. Just to let you know this because you asked, thank you for your wonderful videos, Jennifer! ❤️
