  • Hello friends!
I hope you're having a wonderful day today :) In this video we're going to be touching on something that's been on my mind for a while: feeling burnt out by making art your career. Most artists and art-influencers only talk about the positives, but I don't ever really see people talk about how striving to be a professional artist can make one lose passion for making art.
Of course, this isn't how all artists feel, but it does happen, and I myself feel a bit burnt out presently. While I don't think I'll ever stop illustrating books for people, I do think I want to explore some other things and find ways to fall in love with art again. And that's what we'll be chatting about today!

Watching you work on this piece, you can tell it came directly from the soul. It’s so comforting to know that what you’re expressing here is so universal. Even Monet jumped into the Seine out of despair when he thought art would never be able to provide for his family. We all need to keep creating and be kind to ourselves ❤

This is such a great video! Thank you for talking about this. As an artist, it is hard to monetize your art and does start to take the magic out of it… I appreciate you talking about how dreams change and that’s okay. 💕

I really love the illustration you made! Your work is so colorful! 🥰
Also, this couldn't have come at a better time! I can relate with this so much! I've been feeling burnt out for the past couple of months and it's such a struggle to try to balance the joy & passion of creating art, with the pressure that comes with making it our job & livelihood; of performing for others.
Hobbies are such a good point to help balance out our days!
I really dislike the fact that everything needs to be thought of as something to monetize. Sadly the general mentality towards anything someone can be good at is to instantly seek a monetary gain out of it; and sometimes that just drains the fun out of it. It's okay for things that we are good at to just be our hobbies, not everything needs to be squeezed into coin. 😵‍💫
Also our presence online sometimes gets to us, and we stop enjoying any form of creativity that we deem shareable; we try to save those moments to capture them in video, or for reels, or photos, and we end up creating them not for ourselves but for others instead. It's okay for creative things to be personal, private and cherished.
I hope you find whichever path makes you happy & sparks your passion and creativity :)

Thank you very much my friend, and I’m glad I’m not alone in feeling this. It has been hard to stay motivated to create when you feel like you’re only allowed to do it for work or for social media. Finding a balance is what’s needed, and I hope we can find a path that works for us ❤

The wisdom in this video is immense, and something I'd wish I'd known a long time ago. This notion of that it's okay to let go of a dream I've only recently realized and been okay with after I decided to leave the industry years ago. Like you I grew up knowing I wanted to be an animator, and when I got out of high school and found out that was possible, I went all in to achieve this dream. After graduating things were hard and I had to come to terms with that I neither cared about 3D animation nor about the technical aspect of animating. Plus there was very little work in my country. So I went and took an education in production design since I enjoyed movies and wanted to create the visual narrative. Again I felt exhausted looking for work, and when I worked I felt dissatisfied. I had to adjust. After many trial and errors and dabbling in different areas, I'm now a trained teacher. Even though it's hard as well, I feel much more content and stable since the work is secure and I don't use my greatest talent to do the job. As you said I don't need to monetize my art, it's a way for me to find joy and relax. Also I'm a storyteller, which is the main element in all my endeavours, which I definitely need to explore more. I loved the quote you used and found this one from Dale Carnegie, which supports it: "Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get."
Ps. While watching your videos I actually feel inspired and want to create, so I sketch while I watch. Thank you for making the rest of us feel seen and heard.

I know this wasnt about design but this video is helping me heal that part of me that feels like a traitor for changing careers from industrial design to illustration and starting to study from zero again. Maybe this is a mistakes, but for now, Im really happy, have learn so so much about myself and maybe thats enough. Thank you so much ❤️
PS. Im in love with your editing and littles details, also you have such a pretty signing voice, it really adds character to the video 🥰 keep up your great work and I hope you get to a place where you are at peace and comfortable in your journey 💫

Thank you so much for putting this video out. As a somewhat recent college grad who is working in the creative field but already feeling a creative burnout I am slowly reflecting and realizing these things as well. I think a refocus and maybe even an intentional break to try something new is a route that is needed. I wish you all the best as well! 😊

This spoke directly to my spirit. I literally don't want to make art my career no matter how many people think I should. That would rob all the joy I get out of it.

Honestly I completely respect that. It totally makes things different, and while I wouldn’t say I have regrets, I definitely miss when art was fun. So if keeping art to yourself is what you feel is best, then I support that 😁
