  • Honwave T38-IE (2021) & Tohatsu MSF6 (2020). Launching the my Honwave SIB on holiday in Newton Ferrers, Devon, England.
    There has been a lot of comments asking about the launch wheels on my SIB and I've learned quite a lot on my summer holiday so thought this might be of interest..

    Thanks for the dose of reality. I was thinking the same thing; that I'd like 10hp, but at 66 years old, 100 lbs would be way too much. I was also wondering about how much effort it would take to bring the boat back up the ramp. I think I'll reduce the size of the boat that's in my head. Thanks again for the realistic video.

    As an owner of an older Honwave 3.8 I am glad that Honda have removed those trim tabs which means the transom wheels are much easier to pick up and put down. That was really my only gripe, these are superb boats and great fun.

    • @howardcornwell9841

      The new Honwave has a set of grab handles that get in the way of getting the paddles, its frustrating!😄 and there's no clip for them to keep them in place when not in use🙄 still love it though 👍

      Not to mention with the tabs you can get to plane even with 6hp 2 adults dog chain anchor life jackets ropes canopy 25 lt fuel towels food etc etc. I do not think the new t38 is capable for this.

    If that's a ramp you have access to every time consider rigging up some tackle with purchase to a tree or something else sturdy (perhas even a small electrical winch) so you can keep the engine mounted and not ever have to carry it. I am fairly fit and strong but also have two bulging discs and carrying an OB is a shortcut to trouble.

    In my opinion, all this trouble is worth it only if you plan to stay several days and have the boat moored meawhile. ( i.e. setup and pack up only once). For a single outing it is not worth the trouble. I owned a small sailboat and had the same issue. Now looking for a small inflatable like yours. And yes 10hp is 45 kg, while 6hp is 25 kg. The one is a highschool kid, the other is a 7 yo kid. Good for you that you did not buy the 10hp.

      I bought my setup from Bridger Marine too! I've not used mine much since making this video which was in Newton Ferrers (not had much time since). I used it a bit more inland on the river Severn launching from Upton Marina. Hope to get some more time to use it soon. I had a river boat (Freeman 23) and a Caddy cruiser before but they cost a fortune to keep. My SIB has been in my garage pretty much since I videoed this and it's hardly cost me anything... lots of fun and low cost :D

    I'm considering a Honwave T27-IE3 with a Mercury 6HP as a tender for a yacht. I'd be hoping for it to plane with two people. Do you think that's realistic?
    Second question... Do you find the V-Hull collects water at the bottom much at all? That's been proposed as an issue by a couple of vendors of air-deck models...
    Very useful video all round as well - congrats.

      Thanks. My T38 planes with two people so long as the weight isn’t all to far back so I can’t see why a T27 wouldn’t. It can collect a bit but more from rain than anything. Is easy enough to bail out though or there is a drain plug in the transom.

      Mark Howells I have a T38 and I m happy but.. If you want a tender for a YACHT (probably you will have it inflated always either at the front or at the back) and that is not good for pvc material always unde the sun. Look for hypalon. Maybe something like a 3d tender.

    • @ALEXANjunior
      @ALEXANjunior Před 3 lety

      @Urban Drones UK a friend of mine had tried hydrofoils and the only one that worked well was permatrim.I guess it will work also with ozhydrofoil since it's the same design. But I didn't want to drill so I moved on with f15 efi (Which I remove air restrictor plate) and I put 5113-093-08 since a friend weighs 120 kg and now with 4 persons it can pull a skier too.
      But I still got bf6. I have only best memories from this machine. Easy to put on and the most important piece of cake to tilt.
      Now f15 is always mounted and t38 is always inflated on a trailer. And since it is on a trailer I put an aluminium roll bar a bimini and a foldable bow canopy (to be able to drop anchor) and dual fender holders each side of roll bar and mounted on to them the ring buoys to make room inside. And then I realise it was time for a rib :D . Hopefully next year..
