The lines where it slows down- to just a repetition of "I wanna ___" is so nice,, especially if you just relate to them
And the small reference to Sad Machine from the World's album was such a nice throw back, I've been a fan of Porter Robinson since that album and omfg I am just so excited to see more.

There's a lot of really small intentional decisions with this song as well, my favorites being the following:
Every sound of a weapon is not a revolver but the racking of a slide, which isn't the right weapon, implying this song isn't supposed to be a gamble, it's a real struggle with depression and su*c*de and it starts with the very first sound in the song being that slide racking
The first chorus's drop into edm is not fulfilling. There's something missing, like the protagonist of the song knows that the "solution" they've found isn't a good one but they don't know quite what will fix it.
The final verse also reads a ton to me like they're sitting down for what they expect to be the last time and trying, and thankfully succeeding, to talk themselves out of it by reminding themselves about all the little things. It's extremely vocals focused and isolated, forcing you to really hear every word and the weight it carries
After the third chorus though when they realize they want to live, it goes HARD as they found the missing piece and the desire for life in all the little things. Super powerful, super well done
there's a bunch of other little things like the whole song being a commentary on social media and online influencers/personalities, but overall an absolute banger and I cannot wait for the rest of the album

I like to think of him comparing the sheer randomness of the internet and the strangeness of it to his success and also how he is feeling. The notorious funny monkey line is funny at first, but then hearing the line afterwards, "and I thought it was strange to sell my face" gives that line more context. His success has had an impact on him and I think while he for sure appreciates it as he says all the time, he also feels the burdens and pressures of it. From overzealous fans in Cheerleader, fans who constantly criticize him constantly and say all these things about him in KYO XD, and now Russian Roulette looks like we are seeing the effects of those things on Porter's mental health. Having the success he has can be hit or miss. You'll have really good moments and things definitely pay off, but once in a while the burdens and problems of being famous can shoot you, just like a gun in Russian Roulette.

@@DeplexerYT Yes!! Absolutely, verse 2's randomness I see as being that as well as the entire process of becoming an Internet celebrity and how someone can lose themselves to brands, promoters, and whatever the algorithms tell them just to stay relevant
I don't necessarily see the album as porter directly as this album seeems to be more of a total commentary on online culture so far with Cheerleader being about Stan culture's obsession with artists/creators and KYO XD being very centered around the ego of online creators and the bubble of unrealness to them

@@MidwestMoses For sure, I definitely see it as a commentary on the online world. Given what he said in that post, that this will be his most heartbreaking album yet and that he started accidentally speaking out about how he really feels despite the original intention of the album, it seems like there is something a little more personal here buried under the surface.
This is definitely clear given the amount of references to his past (the sad machine line, his cat, marrying his wife, etc.) in Russian Roulette. So there is probably something more personal there related to the commentary on internet culture that he is starting to show in this song, and will be more prevalent throughout the album.

Yes! This song also really spoke to me and I also tear up, especially in the really slow part of the song 🥹 I’ve really enjoyed the singles so far. I’m very excited for the full album!
Also I don’t think you mentioned it, but I loved the verse early on referencing Sad Machine ❤️
