The thing is that Godzilla didn't want to kill Kong, he wanted to make him submit, it's easy to kill someone, it's much harder to beat them into submission
It wasn't that hard for him, he put it down in less than a minute 😅
Godzilla easily beat Kong. Remember, Adam Wingard confirms Godzilla was holding back against Kong in the first half of the Hong Kong fight. He thought he had the fight in control and was so overconfident, he got careless. But after the axe struck Godzilla’s face and knocked them both back, Godzilla got enraged and easily beat Kong to near death. All it took was serious mode and Godzilla won easily. Kong never had a chance.

Even as a Legendary Kong fan, I have no problem with admitting that Godzilla could kill the Big Ape anytime. Sure, the Battle-Axe was kind of a game changer as it was able to nullify his atomic breath AND even use it against him, but the second G-man decides to go up close and personal, it was like putting a caveman against a grizzly bear.

I feel like the main reason Godzilla didn't kill Kong was because he knew Kong wasn't a threat to the earth unlike Ghidorah/Mutos
Wingard did say that was also a reason for Godzilla to not go ballistic until Hong Kong, Godzilla was after Ghidorah since the acoustic noises from MechaG were derived from Ghidorah. It was basically Godzilla trying to shove Kong to the side so he could deal with Ghidorah, wasn't until Kong had almost axed Godzilla in the head that Godzilla finally got fed up with Kong

Im so glad that I was team Godzilla for the movie, cause as much as I love both Godzilla and Kong, I knew that this was a truly unfair fight, and it is interesting to think that Kong was daring Godzilla to finish him off, but Godzilla decides to let him die in peace, it goes to show that Godzilla is much more merciful than you would imagine...

I like that, in the movie, you can pretty much see the moment Godzilla decided to stop playing around with Kong. I've heard a lot of Kong fan boys complain about 'how Godzilla suddenly got all his strength back when Kong was already worn out'. Guess they've never watched any professional boxing. It's called a 'rope-a-dope'. It's where you only put half or less of your full effort into the fight, letting the opponent wear himself out before suddenly go at him full force when he's too worn out to defend himself. Hell, you can even see Godzilla grinning at one point, he's clearly enjoying himself till Kong pisses him off and he decided to put an end to it.
You also have to remember that Godzilla isn't actually here to fight Kong. In fact, one could argue that the main reason MechaGodzilla did so well against Godzilla, was because he had already wasted a lot of time and effort fighting Kong. If anything, Kong nearly screwed the entire planet by distracting Godzilla from a much more serious threat.

Actually he hated Kong (not because of Kong but one of his species) one of Kong's species beat Godzilla when he was younger (and less experienced)and that's why he hunts him so viciously in the movie, it was a long rivalry
@@happyunhappy7240 Well that was before the war between the species and Greg Keyes confirms this. Also he said it was more than one Kong species that drove him out. It was never stated that that Kong “beat him”. The comic doesn’t elaborate on how that situation went. And the fact that Greg Keyes had to explain further on it, is his fault for not putting it in the comic. But in the novel it then states Godzilla drove most of the Kong’s out alone. And killed several of them after gaining his atomic breath from the Hollow Earth radiation. So that moment in his younger life could have been the driving point.

@@happyunhappy7240 He was alive during it cuz in the novelization, he drove the Kong’s out of Hollow Earth himself. This was confirmed on 64 of the GvK novel.

In a way I think maybe Godzilla saw a bit of himself in Kong, a martial sassiness and pride. Sparing him to put him in his place was definitely his intent but I think pushing Godzilla to stop messing about and later the defiant roar tipped the scales that he wasn’t a run-of-the-mill kaiju. It’s something Godzilla himself would do. The later tag team and axe drop solidifying that sentiment in a way. I wouldn’t call them equals but a newcomer with talent put in as a type of lieutenant (but you know, really far away so they both get their turf). As Godzilla is king of the monsters, I could see him effectively instating King as a duke of the Hollow Earth watching over all of that and policing it. “We may not be friends but we certainly aren’t enemies”
So basically if Godzilla wasn't toying with Kong, this movie would probably be twenty minutes long

If Kong’s ancestors were able to rival Godzilla’s ancestors, then it only makes since that Kong can also do it. It also helps that since Kong now knows how Godzilla fights, he knows how to exploit some of Godzilla’s vulnerabilities.
Honestly, gvk was a movie to show how strong goji is. He could have killed kong at any moment. But, like a new Zealand man once said, professionals have standards, so he let him live.

I remember people talking about how Kong had the advantage in the fight due to his agility and ability to fight in close quarters. Dang... Godzilla proved those people wrong in an instant.
I do agree those are important but their is also another important factor in fights. Actually a few. First is undoubtedly armor, Kong had fur, muscle and possibly fat for protection. Godzilla had scales and hide that could take multiple direct hits from missiles, depth charges, planes, ships, and a f***ing nuclear warhead. Kong's protection got pierced via helicopter mounted machine guns. Second is ranged assault which Kong had no answer to, he was and still is most effective hand to hand. Godzilla is a walking atomic flamethrower with teeth and a bad attitude.

Knowing that Godzilla was actually toying with Kong, it explains quite a few things. Like how the G-man didn't charge at Kong at the start of the fight at Hong Kong unlike the G-man's fights with Ghidorah and the Mutos. Also how Godzilla relied on just his atomic breath to hit Kong, which costed an axe blow to the face by Kong.

During the time in the movie where king figures out that his axe absorbs the atomic breath, there could have been use of plot armor there since if kong didn’t have his axe up or didn’t know, there would be death and destruction at that scene.

The part where Godzilla threw Kong by the arm, he could’ve easily back that up with an atomic breath attack, and then boom the ape is gone
another moment is when kong was lying down on the boat, he was completely vulnerable, godzilla would have been smart enough to just kill kong there if he wanted to, turning off the lights would not have helped if kong was just visible while slowly panting and breathing
Here's another factor, Kong was at full strength having not dealt with other Kaiju. Godzilla was tired and used a LARGE portion of his radiation reserves in the previous fights. It's the very same reason Godzilla wasn't able to overpower MechaGodzilla's beam attack. He was seriously running on fumes at that point after everything. Kong got VERY lucky he faced a tired Godzilla. Had Godzilla at peak, he likely would have entirely curbstomped Kong.
Yeah Goji had been blasting shit all week and even sent a Kamehameha to punch a hole in the earth prior to the Hong Kong battle. A fresh post KOM Goji would've smoked them both at the same time..

Well for method 2 even if Kong didn’t see that cave painting he probably still would have avoided it due to instinct as like shown in the movie, their species where enemies in the past and therefore Kong would know that that glow was dangerous even if he didn’t know what it was, like seen in many species alive today, like house cats that have never seen snakes before immediately jump at the sight of snake shaped toys or items.

I don't agree with you. Ok so here is my point.
Cats do not IMMEDIATELY jump at the sight of snake. They take time carefully staring at the thing then they approach it slowly and notice whether its reacting to it or not and if the thing moves around then they will follow it peacefull and then might attack. Its the same for dogs too they do not straight up attack/ bite someone/something they first bark and try to get rid to it if the thing doesn't respond then they might bit it or may even flee.
I have stayed in contact with Dogs and Cats and kinda understand their psychology.
Cats are kinda curious creatures and like to get some knowledge about the thing and are always slow to react to new environmental agents and dogs are totally different they just straight forward bark even if thats a 15 feet tall T-Rex

@@charlieblank3393 you can see videos of cats hitting snakes not jumping away from them cats are predators and a snake will catch a cats attention much like a string moving the cats instincts will trigger its predator nature and the cat will go for the snake. The whole cucumber thing is also not true my cat isn’t bothered by cucumbers and nether are the cats of a friend I know. the only time a cat jumps is when it’s caught off guard.

Awesome video! Another one I realized it when Godzilla slaps on and he goes down on the carrier Godzilla is about to charge up an atomic breath when he is hit and distracted by airplane missiles. This gives kong enough time to escape
I think it’s also important to remember that while Kong has grown up and is quite clever, agile, and resilient…Godzilla is literally millions of years older than him.
For all we know, Godzilla has fought other members of Kong’s species and either won or at least survived. Godzilla seems to be appear aware that Kong is a child of his rivals. Kong seems relatively unaware of this rivalry to it’s fullest.
He didn’t have that luxury, and while he put up a very good fight…he was never going to really win. Godzilla was likely measuring him up as well as put him in his place.
Not to mention, Kong and Godzilla’s overall intelligence seem to be on par with each other. Kong may have faster reflexes, reactions, and even process information faster that Godzilla.
However, Godzilla’s slightly slower thought process and reactions may also be because he thinks more in the overall long term due his immense age.
Godzilla doesn’t use tools the same way Kong does, but he seems to know how to use every part of his body extremely effectively. He knows he’s far, FAR more durable than Kong. He knows he’s taller, longer, and heavier. Most importantly, he knows what his advantages and disadvantages are overall. If he’d done battle with a Kong before, he would likely still remember how they fought.
Not to mention, since he’s become the Alpha/King Of The Monsters, he’s become a much more active fighter again. His movements when fighting the MUTO’s and Ghidorah reflect that he was still a bit rusty after millennia of passive patrol. (Not to mention getting a power boost from Serizawa’s and Mothra’s sacrifice.)
Maybe if Kong had fought Godzilla as he was in 2014, he might’ve won.
It’s likely one of the reasons that Godzilla spared him was because he was impressed or respected how well he managed to fight back despite his age and unfamiliarity.
I don’t think he was going to drown Kong when they first fought, and likely let him go when the depth charges were launched.
He just wanted to put the fear of Godzilla in him.
Kong’s not a weakling by any means, he was just clearly outmatched for all intents and purposes.

Everything I outlined was how Kong was outmatched against Goji.
That said, Kong still put up a good fight against the King Of The Monsters all things considered.

Godzilla killing Kong in the Tasman sea would have ended any chance of Apex completing mechagodzilla. Godzilla killing Kong in Hong Kong would have meant the end of not only the Titans, but all of humanity as well. It is fortunate that Godzilla spared Kong, since it allowed both Kong and Godzilla to defeat mechagodzilla and save the world.

So basically, the final Kong-Gman fight was the same as Finn vs Kylo Ren at the end of Force Awakens. Kylo/G toys around, isn’t really taking it seriously. Then Finn/Kong lands on decent hit, and Kylo/G decide to end the fight right then and there.
And I thought I couldn’t love Gman any more.

Easy moment you missed is the spot were Zilla literally slapped Kong in Hong Kong once he had the big monkey on the ground. He could have just as easily ripped Kong's throat out with his claws.
The strength difference was also shown in their first encounter in the Tasman sea. When Kong punched Godzilla in the face all it did was push his head to the side. When Godzilla returned the favour, Kong was knocked flat on his back.

I love Godzilla and I knew this fact before the director said that G-man was toying with the monkey whole time. Say what you want, but on paper and in practical terms, Godzilla is a unstoppable force of nature and the true/only king of the monsters.

I took it as Godzilla had bigger fish to fry and another alpha on the board was one too many a potential threat so Kong had to either be submitted or squished. The roar in a pinned Kong's face was very much "look goddamnit will you just stay down so I can stop this much worse thing happening".

Honestly, to me it felt less like plot armor and more like Godzilla didn’t actually WANT to kill Kong. The first time they fought Godzilla was definitely fighting to kill, but he was also in a foul mood and probably stressed out of his mind, and in HK he just wanted him out of the way.
Godzilla was really just done with everyone’s shit in GvK and it’s so funny.
Read the novel. Adam saved face with hardcore G fans. The novel and artbook states they fought all night till the morning earning mutual respect. Adam contridicted the synopsis of the film. When Kong put Godzilla down the King got up. When Godzilla finally put Kong down he tried but couldn't. Godzilla never shows mercy.
The novel states his rival with Kong was more hated and older then the 3 headed one. Kong was holding an Ax with a dead Gojira specie dorsal plate. Why didn't Kong jump on Godzilla when he put him down? Respect. Why didn't Godzilla fire his ray in his face after Kong still didn't bow. Repect. The 2 battled all night. Didn't Adam say that was the reason Godzilla didn't land a blow on MechaG? If Kong could've been easy and quick it would've been.
This is the Only Kaiju film you can make that nobody knows who will be the winner. Marketing was great. The movie was great.
Then Adam wants to say something that is different from the synopsis after the film? Did he not read the prequel comics,novel, and artbook??? He directed the film. He didn't write the plot. He gave his vision of the plot by directing the film.
Ex) A sedated Kong surviving the Tasman sea was increible. The truth is Godzilla was tricked. The novel stated he came back looking for Kong's body. Then knew he was at the cold place. He was angry for being ricked.

This was how I viewed the battles between the 2 Icons. The battle at sea was great.
I hear people saying" it's a loss for King Kong". Really??? Out in the middle of the ocean and sedated. Kong was never going to win. IQ is a trait. I don't care if Kong landed more blows, or Godzilla was going to drown Kong. The fact is both were hit by depth charges. Kong was worn out. Godzilla left the scene because he was tricked. In the novel, he returned after he checked his turf and came back and looked for Kong's body. According to the novel, he was angry becuase he sensed him at the cold place. Godzilla was on his way to Antarctica until MechaG's orca(Alpha call) came. Godzilla went to HK to see where the hidden one(MechaG) was.
Going into the HK battle I didn't feel that one was more superior then the other. I thought Kong put up a better fight at sea then Ghidorah.
The HK fight was the best in any kiaju film ever. I thought when Kong put Godzilla down that the King got up. When Godzilla finally put Kong down that Kong tried but couldn't.
Godzilla got the win to even the score. After the 62 film, reading the sequel of the 62 film, I felt it was fair for both icons that Godzilla won.
It felt a little like some dumb wrestling plot. Godzilla then loses the title and Kong destroys MechaG winning the film. Both acknowledged each other in the end.
Then Adam Wingard comes out with something to please this new hardcore G fan base. Most are kids and don't appreciate how grateful we should be for GvK because how hard it was to get these 2 together. I think having an opinion doesn't mean I favor one over the other. Your casual fan would view it the same way. Adam's film was fun. He didn't owe an explanation. He wants to direct for films and decided to say nonsense. Nobody thought that after watching the film. Actually it's the only VS film you can make and truly have ZERO CLUE who will win.
@@tedunseth3966 Dude the novel contradicts the film. Also the frame by frame of the film shows Kong’s axe DID make contact with his face. And the impact itself caused the explosion. The atomic breath did not save him at all. It was fueling the axe’s impact power. Adam Wingard’s words are deemed canon.

Banalization tends to contradict what the film depicts. When they said they fight all night until sun rise, The film clearly shows a different picture. It wasn’t sunrise until after Godzilla beat Kong.

Fantastic videos as always. Though I will say: had the humans not stepped in to save Kong he would have died from the chest stomp. It's something I found a while back where basically Godzilla caught him with a blunt force (his foot) at the right moment (Kong trying to breathe/roar) that triggered his heart to stop functioning and would have killed him. It's called Commotio Cordis. It's like such a rare thing to actually get right, but Godzilla practically did just by stomping on his chest. The immense pressure that was lifted off of Kong's chest is honestly surprising no ribs appeared to be broken. You can clearly see his chest almost pop back up into it's regular shape when Godzilla's foot is lifted and Kong is allowed to breathe properly again.

@@ryndor2899 Immediately stop the heart, but it's pretty tricky to do as there's a certain spot on the chest and a very fine window for it. In the case of plot armour Kong survived. In the case of had this actually occurred, Kong would have been killed immediately. Since plot armour dictated that Kong's window of vulnerability closed before both chest stomps, Kong got away very lucky.
