The event is expected to feature a UFC Lightweight Championship fight between current champion Islam Makhachev and current UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski. Following UFC 94, UFC 205, UFC 226, UFC 232, and UFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs. Dillashaw, this will be the eighth time in UFC history that champions from different divisions will fight for the same title. UFC 259, as well as UFC 277. Volkanovski, if successful, will become the fourth man to be champion in two divisions at the same time, the fifth fighter overall (after Conor McGregor at UFC 205, Daniel Cormier at UFC 226, Amanda Nunes at UFC 232 and UFC 277, and Henry Cejudo at UFC 238), and the eighth person overall to win a title in different divisions.
The event is expected to feature an interim UFC Featherweight Championship fight between The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America featherweight winner Yair Rodrguez and Josh Emmett.The event is expected to feature a middleweight fight between former UFC Middleweight Champion (and The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes welterweight winner) Robert Whittaker and former title challenger Paulo Costa. Originally scheduled to headline UFC on ESPN: Whittaker vs. Gastelum in April 2021, Costa withdrew due to illness.
This event will feature a flyweight fight between former UFC Flyweight Championship challengers Alex Perez and Kai Kara-France (Kara-France in the interim). They were scheduled to fight on May 16, 2020, in San Diego, but the event was rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the fight never took place.

Volk has nothing to lose here. He is undersized and expected to lose. The worst that can happen is that he loses p4p. He was also running out of people to dominate at fw. Maybe sb will emerge when he is ready to defend at fw.
Volk no longer has a challenge. He destroyed everyone in the hole devision. Fact that Alex isn't one of the most popular fighters rn is ABSURD!!
So he really has nothing to lose. But you still want to get your gram against the other best of the best fighter. I personally think this will be the most important match for Volk.
