  • Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) has established a new unit in Tehran to police women's hijab wearing -- they are called "Ambassadors of Kindness". The unit has issued videos of girls happily receiving hijabs. But footage on social media shows women without a hijab being detained.

For Pete’s sake, even if wearing a head scarf is part of your religious norm how does it justify violence in enforcement? And on women? Disgraceful at a minuscule minimum.

What if the religion is fundamentally about submission and oppressing women? How do you separate the belief from the enforcement?

@@DemPilafian unless there’s something specific in the writings of the religion that says do x if the person does or doesn’t do y then it’s arbitrary, subjective, contrary, against the religion, and just the usual disgraceful, if not criminal, actions of those in power. I don’t agree with repression of women. The world would likely be a better place if it was run by women.

@@gregsscubavids5128 The Quran does indeed explicitly state that women who are not modest should be punished. What is left for interpretation is who should do the punishment.

@@DemPilafian Good to know. I’m not wasting my time studying any religion so that’s helpful.
Then once again the authorities take it upon themselves to play god instead of letting god mete out judgement and punishment.
Good thing I don’t believe any religion produced by man. Too flawed and open to abuse.

We can't take freedom and democracy for granted, we have to fight for it, as you can see in the countries where populist parites took power, because they are usually pro-Putin, which means corrupted parties. I hope Iran will be able in the (near) future to get rid of this absurd theocratic dictatorship. The same for Russia. Afghanistan seems almost impossible, since Americans left. Freedom and democracy, it's the only way, although not perfect, for people to be free to be themselves, to dress, to express themselves and to live as people and not as slaves or as zombies of the propaganda.
