  • The 149th Prerana Festival for Youth held at ISKCON Chowpatty, Mumbai very nicely covers the topic " The Joy of De-addiction " in a vedic and yet understandable way with a punch of humor.

    Super Duper Feast, both for the ears as well as the heart. Such a topic dealt with such depth, excellent examples and with such an ease can be done by HG Gauranga prabhuji only. Thank you very much. Hare Krishna and Dandvat pranaams!

    What a class synchronizing lord chaitanya's medicine of sankirtana with yoga sutra of Patanjali. "Yoga chitta Vritthi nirodha". Many people are helpless because of their addictions and hopeless that they will every be able to come out of their addictions. This is a must for such helpless candidates.

    Its very impressive and knowledgeble lecture to young countryman. I think India's new generation who have education but no decency, moral, manners to fit Hindu calture and they are not trust worthy in general life. They have the best education in the world but its shame that new generation are down fall of India. Most of you are not agreed with me but one day you will. I accepting all your anger for this message.

    Wonderful and insightful lecture. I have one question - If habits are created due to memory of past pleasure, then why can't the meomory of consequences of that pleasure stop us getting into that habit. Like say drinking "Memory of past pleasure of drinking impels the drunkard to drink again. Why cant the consequences of that drinking impel him to give it up" Certainly if he had deep rooted sanskaars of drinking he must be having the imprints of that suffering too" Why doesn't those imprint stop him from drinking automatically just like Memories of pleasure trigger him to drink more automatically?

      @rgmedia108  Před 6 lety +3

      Thank you for your wonderful question. We will substantiate our reply from Srimad Bhagavatam.
      In short, the STRONG DESIRE of a living entity impels him to run behind sense enjoyment, despite his PREVIOUS BAD EXPERIENCES with it.
      (Paraphrasing from Srila Prabhupada's purport on Srimad Bhagavatam SB 6.5.41)
      Daksha claims that suffering on a material plane will make one automatically renounced. However, material nature is so strong that although a man suffers at every step, he will not cease his attempts to enjoy (tṛpyanti neha kṛpaṇa-bahu-duḥkha-bhājaḥ [SB 7.9.45]).
      (Paraphrasing from Srila Prabhupada's purport on Srimad Bhagavatam SB 3.31.11)
      A pregnant woman having labor pains promises that she will never again become pregnant and suffer like that. When one is undergoing some surgical operation he promises that he will never again act in such a way as to become diseased and have to undergo medical surgery, or when one falls into danger, he promises that he will never again make the same mistake. Similarly, the living entity, when put into a hellish condition of life, prays to the Lord that he will never again commit sinful activities and have to be put into the womb for repeated birth and death. In the hellish condition within the womb, the living entity is very much afraid of being born again, but when he is out of the womb, when he is in full life and good health, he forgets everything and commits again and again the same sins for which he was put into that horrible condition of existence.
      One needs the BLESSINGS & ASSOCIATION of devotees who inspire him/her to perform devotional service. Then one can renounce his attachment for the material world. Engaging senses in Bhakti is the way of controlling senses. The NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES of sense enjoyment alone are NOT SUFFICIENT, although certainly help one in developing detachment to CERTAIN extent. The association of devotees and process of Bhakti bring POSITIVE transformation in the DESIRES of a person inclined for material enjoyment.
      Hope this helps.

      Another perspective is that
      Thinking about the consequences belongs to the Intelligence that is qualified by Sattva Guna. Though the mind has imprints of the consequences, since the intelligence has been overtaken by rajo guna, it can only aid the mind's gratification. So depending on whether intelligence is qualified by sattva or rajas, it determines what memories to use.
      For the intelligence to stay in sattva, there has to be a STRONG SANKALPA, which is very easily received by the mercy of the Guru. Such an intelligence can correct a mind or else the intelligence will become a servant.

      please contact ISKCON Chowpatty Mumbai i.e., Radha Gopinath Temple . if you leave outside Mumbai, pls contact any ISKCON temple in your city.
      I confirm you that your son will give up the habit of drinking alcohol because in ISKCON we learn some spiritual practices by which connects with the Supreme Lord by chanting the holy names of the Lord, reading Srila Prabhupada books and associating with devotees.
      This is a assured process.

    Hare Krishna, I have a question. Sometimes, there are highly intellectual individuals who follow the principle of Work Hard , Party Harder. They have the skills and the intelligence to control their addictions for the so called higher purpose (according to them) of earning money and fame. Even if they are miserable internally, they let go, party, forget the misery and money kind of makes them forget everything. So, how is the necessity of nourishing the soul, the inner self, put across to them ?

    • @SNM007
      @SNM007 Před 6 lety +1

      All that show off is temporary. You can see the examples of Vijay Mallaya Rajesh Khanna Britney spears George Micheal Micheal Jackson etc.. who were flamboyant and partying all times and partied their way to doom. Its all a matter of time. I hear that many times. People say we just drink in parties and we can hold on the drink very well, moderation is the new thumb rule blah blah. But what starts off as drinking in parties spirals downwards to become habit and addiction and before they realize they lose control of self.
