People overlook the total genius of Britten's arrangements. We will never see the like again.
Sublime. Absolutely beautiful performance
Britten's intuitive accompaniment plus Peter Pears's wonderful voice combine to make this the definitive interpretation. Genius.
Glorious from both. We shall never see (or hear) their like again.
..... one of yr corres[ondents says Pears singing is " dated & affected....
If thats the case, I wish for more dated and affected singing today ( 2023 )
I cant hear that '64 recital enough, and find it profoundly moving
I don't think it gets any better than this.
Beautiful music!!!!
If only I had a time machine to be part of the audience for this. Delightful.
can't get enough of his voice
L' arte dell'accompagnare! Una lezione di bellezza e umiltà. Grazie.
Amazing artistry
So beautiful! Incredible !
A sublime version of this is sung by Julius Drake accompanied by Gerald Finley on Hyperion CDA67778. I first heard it as I was driving to work nearly ten years go and had to pull over to listen to it.
Just love the Ploughboy - and pears little mannerisms too
Beyond compare !
Merveilleux.
This is wonderful! So nice they did this and it was recorded. (and I love the encore!)
Timeless beauty
Loved it, thanks for posting
If you want anymore you can sing it yourself hee haw sing it yourself 😊
This is lovely. if you agree, you'd be as well not to watch Dudley Moore's send-up :)
The Dudley Moore spoof is absolutely brilliant but doesn't detract from this.
@@1Greystalk agreed!
@@leemoid78 It simply puts it into perspective...
can someone please list the names of the songs?
Just in case you haven't been able to look it up yourself :
Man is for the woman made, The foggy, foggy dew, O, waly, waly,
Sweet Polly Oliver, Sally in our alley,(part one)
Tom Bowling, The Lincolnshire poacher, The ploughboy (part two).
Oliver Cromwell (encore, a nursery rhyme).
some of them I knew but others I had no clue so thanks so much!

Britten was such a great pianist.Pears alas hasn't aged well and his style of singing sounds hopelessly dated, unnatural and affected.
It would be nice to hear a proper singer sing these charming songs.
I disagree.
@@WinrichNaujoks me too, Pears sounded heavenly. may he and Britten rest together in peace up there
