    I like to add a piece of cotton batting inside my burpcloths. It makes them more absorbent.

  • @Dbatem
    @Dbatem Před 6 měsíci +22

    I make these but do a few things differently…a) take a bowl and do an indent 1/4 circle on one side so they sit better on your shoulder and cover more b) add another layer of flannel or old towel in between to absorb the spit up so it doesn’t soak through And c) run a couple of diagonal cross stitches across the whole item to help it, stay together during the wash and not need to be ironed

      Have you ever tried to put batting in burp cloth? That was my first thought when watching this video. Thanks!

    These are the most requested item moms-to-be make to me. They get way softer the more they are washed. Every new baby gets their own bunch of these.
    I also make a larger and manly burp cloth for the Dad. It's often a sport or team theme and I call it a "murp" for man size burp cloth. It's wrapped as a gift for Dad at the shower. Always well received. 😊

    Cotton fabric or flannel on the top with towelling from a thin bath towel at the back works well and is very absorbent. These fabrics work well with bibs too.

    I have made flannel burp cloths and new mom’s appreciate them. As a Grandma, it is nice to have a couple at my house also.
    Another Mommy favorite gift I make is Self binding receiving blankets. I also make these out if flannel and then make burp cloths to match.
    I look forward to more Mommy /Baby gift ideas.

      That's such a great idea! Our guild makes baby blankets for our local pregnancy center, that would be so cute to add a couple of matching burp cloths.

    Ohh my gosh, that is the perfect little project for a baby shower. It's inexpensive, it's fast, it's adorable, and, perhaps most fun of all, it gives me a reason to buy lots of adorable little baby flannel fat quarter bundles that I don't really need but I would like to sew with. I mean even if I don't have baby showers to go to right now, there are always lots of places to donate that kind of small useful item. Thanks very much for the very useful and informative tutorial!😊

    I would prewash my flannel prior to making the burp cloth since flannel does shrink. I’d hate for my burb cloth to look wonky after washing it once it is finished.

    I am making a baby box for all my grandkids so that when they have kids they'll have a box from Nana, whether I'm around or not. Have you considered a waterproof element, like PLU, to serve as a barrier in-between the layers of flannel?
