Thank you for featuring Taiwan Steve. I suddenly miss the Jiufen Old Street. I had the same feeling when I was about to leave the airbnb and promise to come back 5 years from then. Taiwanese are also nice like you wont feel awkward talking to them.
During my mother's youth, Jiufen's nickname was little Hong Kong, because the view from above looks like Hong Kong. A famous movie called "A City of Sadness" in 1989 put Jiufen on the map, before then no tourists knew about this place. My grandmother sold the house in Jiufen decades ago, now it's a famous fried squid spot.

I experienced an earthquake in Taiwan when I was travelling there alone by myself. I come from a country with many active volcanoes and experienced many earthquakes growing up but the one in Taiwan got to me a bit more. I think its the fact that I was worried it would cause a tsunami or the fact that I was in a foreign country alone, very far from home.
I went to Juifen too. The town itself felt a bit too touristy to me, but the landscape was phenomenal.

4:21 I also experienced an earthquake once. I think it was in 2018. Here in the West of Bohemia, it happens from time to time. It is the only place in the Czech Republic. Back then it was about 3.6 on the Richter scale. I was just in the tub and within moments the tub started shaking with me. It's really appalling. I was pretty stressed out. I don't wish that on anyone. And imagine how strong the earthquake must be in such a remote country. In our country, the type of earthquake that happens is called an earthquake swarm.
