They stuck the landing. That's honestly rare in TV.
Overall, what BB really reminds me of is a classic tragedy, in the Shakespearean or Greek tradition. The protagonist's own hubris is his downfall, and it was buried in him the whole time, it just came out through the events of the plot. By the end here, he's almost like the ghost of Heisenberg, setting right what little he can, and finally admitting what he can't.

    2. Back in season 2 episode 9, Jesse mentioned about building a robot to save them, and he did.
    3. When Walt’s about the collapse, you can see the reflection and he looks bald and looks like old Heisenberg
    4. Also before he collapses, his bloody hand left a blood stain in the shape of a W.
In the end, he took care of all loose ends, got money going to his family, freed Jesse and he died surrounded by what he loved to do and what made him alive. Cancer never killed him, police never caught him, he went out on his own terms.

The title for the finale is intricate- as for the periodic table FeLiNa, is iron, lithium and sodium. Iron is in blood, lithium in meth and sodium in tears. Felina is an anagram for finale. Its also the name of the woman in the song that Walt hums when he builds a robot in the desert.
When Walter was hanging over that crib, saying goodbye to his daughter for the last time Skyler could have had some kind of change of heart about him. In the closing scene of 0504, 'Fifty-One' Walter tells Skyler she will change her mind about him. If there ever was a moment it was here imo.
Something a lot of people overlook is Walter took out so many people in the drug business that you could say he positively effected it in that regard. Also Gretchen & Elliot spoke on Charlie Rose about their 28 million dollar charity grant announcement for drug abuse treatment centers in the south west that would have never been possible without Walter.
Walter builds a robot in the desert to save Jesse & his family which is a call back to 4 Days Out when Jesse suggests building a robot to save them from the desert- 4 Days Out is Aaron Paul's favorite episode from the series. Speaking of the desert theme, for the entirety of the show. Walt's own bullet taking him out feels almost biblical in how only Jesus himself could take his life at crucifixion like how Walter gets shot in his side. The lab's skeleton form crosshairs over Walter in that final frame (the lab representing an extension of Walter himself). Walter even mentions Gretchen & Elliot's view of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (Spanish for "Blood of Christ") in this episode.
Walter- Mr. Lambert is wearing khaki as a call back to his wardrobe from the pilot, his dress pants from the opening scene & Ozymandias with a green shirt for Breaking Bad / the show's periodic table and the inside of his jacket being blue, for well, you know.
The show as a whole is lightning in a bottle. Watching it is like watching perfection playout on screen, every episode. It's almost surreal. There's no better fictional character that has more depth, a greater character arc and superior acting than Bryan Cranston as Walter H. White. They encapsulate the development and metamorphosis of a character with redeeming qualities along the way, so well & so seamlessly that it changes everything else you watch following it. It really is like the perfect drug- the 99.1% pure storytelling.
Breaking Bad was released at the perfect time imo between the over all production quality in general, the music at the time, the financial crash of 2008 and for being one of the last politically incorrect shows. Imo no other series even comes close to BB when you really go through it with a fine-tooth comb. It is exceptional.
Anthony Hopkins, after completing Breaking Bad wrote Bryan Cranston a letter stating his acting was the best he's seen - ever.

I think Walt was just sad for what happened to Jesse, but there's no use or need to try to say sorry. I'm sure he stands by many of the decisions he made, and he feels hurt by many of the things Jesse did. The only thing he did was a nod at the end, like "its over, I did what I could".

    • @hermanubis96
      @hermanubis96 Před 8 dny +5

There is no need for Walter to literally say the words "I am sorry" for people to understand the final scenes, unless you lack intelligence to process visual cues or have no media literacy. Walter surrendering his gun to Jesse is a symbolic gesture of him acnowledging that he is not good, and that Jesse will be set free with his sacrifice. Also, their final look as Jesse gets into the car clearly indicates that they have reached a final understanding of sorts and can finally move on from their partnership.

Can't believe I haven't seen anyone comment this yet, but there's a ton of hidden meaning behind the title of the final episode "Felina"
    1. It's an anagram for 'Finale'
    2. It's a reference to the song "El Paso" by Marty Robbins. The song is about a cowboy who falls in love with a woman named Faleena, gets shot by his enemies, and dies in her arms, mirroring the ending where he gets shot by his main enemy (himself) and dies next to his one true love (his meth empire). The song plays in his car on the way back from NH, and he's humming it while building the gun contraption.
    3. Fe-Li-Na Iron, Lithium, Sodium. Iron is a main component of blood, lithium is a main component of meth, and sodium is a main component of tears. Literally translating to "blood, meth, and tears"

There were three instances of Walt obtaining a set of keys from a place above himself, each time preceding him killing a character.
    - The key to the bike lock trapping Krazy-8 is kept on top of a cabinet. Krazy-8 dies shortly after.
    - The key to Mike's to-go bag is kept on top of a beam in the airport parking lot. Mike dies shortly after.
    - The key to the car Walt steals in the beginning, kept beneath the visor. Walt dies later. Only this time, instead of reaching for the key, he makes it fall into his hand, controlling his fate.
Also, in the final shot as the camera moves up, there's a blue strip of floor near Walt, and it could represent a finish line. Whether Walt crossed, or just missed it, is up for us to decide.

Not sure if someone else said this, I’m sure but originally Walt was going to kill Jesse, that’s why he had them bring him in. Then seeing his like that he realized he was a hostage not a partner, he decided to save him. You can see Walt’s facial expression change.

As others have said, Walt saving Jesse was a form of an apology, that, and the look of recognition they had when they looked at each other at the end before Jesse drove away. Initially Walt was planning to kill everyone in there, including himself and Jesse with the M60 he had in the trunk. It even shows in the script that when he first saw Jesse he wanted to obliterate him. He knew he could trick Jack into getting them to bring Jesse inside just so he had everyone there to take out, so everyone involved is gone. He reconsidered in the end once he saw Jesse and the condition he was truly in, and that he wasn't actually partnered with them, but that he was being held captive and being forced to do things against his will. This is a part of the final script I wanted to include in this comment:
    From the "Felina" final script:
    INT. JACK’S CLUBHOUSE - NIGHT
Here comes Todd. And here, out of SILHOUETTE, comes Jesse.
Walt blinks, surprised. All those CHAINS! All those SCARS.
    That utterly lifeless, broken STARE.
Walt sees Jesse for what he is: a zombie. And Walt doesn’t
know what to make of it. He doesn’t know how to feel.
    JACK
    (to Walt)
See what I’m talking about, you
    son of a bitch?
Jesse’s gaze rises from the floor. He and Walt lock eyes.
There’s recognition here -- but if Jesse is feeling any
particular emotion in this moment, we can’t read it. So much
has been robbed and beaten out of him.
    JACK
This look like a “partner” to you?!
Walt stares, and keeps staring. Up until fifteen seconds
ago, he knew what he wanted to do to Jesse. He wanted to
obliterate him. But now... but now...
He dives at Jesse, TACKLING him! Knocking him to the
floor, Walt lands on top of him. In that first instant, it
simply looks like an angry attack --
Then here is some parts of the ending sections, which are pretty symbolic and just masterful writing:
    EXT. JACK’S COMPOUND - NIGHT
Walt is all alone. The SIRENS are gradually getting louder,
but he still has time to make his escape.
However, he doesn’t bother. This is it. It’s finally over.
Realizing where he’d like it all to end, Walt wanders toward
the distant Quonset hut. His pace remains unhurried.
INT. TODD’S METH LAB - NIGHT
CLOSE ON the COOK VAT of our familiar meth lab. A hand comes
into frame, touching it. Patting it with affection.
WIDER -- Walt is back where he belongs. He’s back with his
True Love. Jesse left in the middle of a cook, so Walt
continues it. He taps at gauges. He checks temperatures.
The SIRENS are DEAFENING now. As seen through the open door
of the Quonset hut, FIVE APD POLICE CARS come ripping through
frame, lights flashing -- into view, then out again. The
cops don’t know Walt’s in here. Though we can’t see them any
longer, they are continuing on to the clubhouse.
We stay right here with Walt. He’s at peace. The cook is
going well. He taught Jesse well. All is as it should be.
Once more, CLOSE ON THE COOK VAT -- Walt’s hand rests against
it like a cowboy’s hand rests on the neck of his horse.
And now... the hand relaxes and slowly slips down out of
frame. It leaves behind a small smear of BLOOD.
    CONTINUED:
BIRD’S EYE VIEW: we look straight down on Walt as he tumbles
into frame, lying flat on his back on the floor. His eyes
stare up at us, lifeless. And yet, his final expression is
    one of faint satisfaction.
We slowly CRANE UP, UP and AWAY from him. Walt shrinks
smaller and smaller in frame. POLICE OFFICERS approach him
now -- four, six, eight of them. They move in cautiously,
    their guns aimed.
They’re too late. He got away.
We continue SKYWARD, looking down on Walt, rising as high as
we can go. Off this image, slowly FADING TO BLACK...
    END SERIES
Such amazing acting, writing, everything, there's a reason why it's considered one of, if not the best show ever (In my opinion, I believe it is.) I'm glad you guys enjoyed it!

You all rightly recognized the quality of the acting, the writing, etc. One thing that the writers pointed out was that the location of New Mexico really played a significant character in Breaking Bad. I love the cinematography of the location shots, much like a big budget film, yet so creative in the use of the camera and editing, the landscape played a big part.

Don't grieve the end. The universe is not over. Many watch El Camino and not Better Call Saul. El Camino does provide some closure and gap filling on a specific story line ... But Better Call Saul is so much more as a 6 Season show. So much back story (obviously Saul is around in the first episode but you're going to see a few familiar faces pop up during the first season .. and being introduced to characters with equally strong / comes character arcs as all characters developed in Breaking Bad. And by the start of Season 4 .. you see a full transformation from the early days of Saul into setting up so much of the Breaking Bad universe. And finally it fills in the holes of post Breaking Bad for so much more than the limited gaps closed by El Camino. So no need to be sad until you get to the last few episodes of BCS Season 6 ... You're not even half way through!!

Can we at least give Walt credit for taking a key role is the dismantling of 5 major drug empires? Something Hank spent the entire series trying to figure out.
    1. He made the Mexican cartel obsolete by cooking for Gus and allowing Gus the ability to kill everyone in the cartel since he no longer had to rely on them to supply product.
    2. Killed Gus and all of his minions to end his cartel during their rivalry.
    3. Voluntarily retired to end his cartel.
    4. Made a product that was so addictive and so difficult to replicate that it made Declan expendable and allowed Jack’s crew to kill them.
    5. Killed Jack’s crew and Lydia effectively destroying the entire southwest U.S. meth operation

Lol how would Jesse even rescue Brock? He'd have to get there before his mom was found out on the porch, because if not, the police are going to come and either bring him to his grandmother (most likely) or take him into state custody (least likely). So he'd have to rescue him by the next morning. And considering he'd most likely be in his grandmother's custody... I'd say he doesn't need to be rescued. And if for some reason, Jesse were able to get to Brock first, there would be an Amber Alert out for him. And he wouldn't even be able to disappear with him because he doesn't have the money to disappear both of them. But overall, I don't think he'd want to put Brock's family through that, even if he could disappear both of them. I don't think Brock would want to go with him in that situation either. I suppose maybe if Jesse's captors were still alive, then maybe he'd try to rescue Brock... but even then, it's still far fetched.
