  • April 2016 saw the first performance of reconstructed 11th-Century ‘lost songs’ that hadn’t been heard in over 1,000 years - a performance made possible by the research of one of our lecturers (www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/fi...)
Two years on, a CD of this repertoire has just been released, and we are launching a website which will contain details of all the transcriptions, as well as guides to reconstruction, teaching resources, videos produced by the professional medieval music ensemble Sequentia, discussion forums, etc:
    The website is here: boethius.mus.cam.ac.uk

Reading Boethius and watching this video, amongst others, has really made me appreciate this music and Boethius as a most remarkable man with a rich legacy....To Lady Philosophy and her song of consolation.

    Very fascinating.
Who clicks 'thumbs down' on valuable research that leads to beautiful music making? I don't get it.

This is such a fascinating story. It's interesting that the piece featuring two harps and flute starting at 09:26 sounds just like the 1940s "Armenian period" compositions of Alan Hovhaness, such as "Lousadzak," "Anahid," and "Elibris."

The segment from about 6:23 to 6:53 is the most beautiful thing I've heard in my entire life.

Wonderful ! Excellent work! Why not provide the music institutions from other universities with this precious treasure ? There are so many experts in this field of music. There is a slight affinity to songs from the orthodox church. So, from the music institutions in Easteuropean countries, including Russia you would get a fine echo and also suggestions to these songs.
It is a pity that these songs had not been digged out 200 years ago. For the great composers Schumann, Schubert from the romantic period it would have been easy to feel the special intonation intent of Boethius.
